TV and TV

(recaps are below. news is much much later.)

I haven’t linked to recaps elsewhere this week, because I’ve been kinda waiting for them to turn up. Victor’s done a lot in the meantime

AAA from this past weekend. I do like how a match with broken light bulbs ends with a fake low blow. Except the like part.
CMLL on FSE, or what aired of it.
CMLL from 08/05/06. Yay Santo.

Meanwhile, Robert’s given into my demands and actually watched the Chicago Lucha, at least DVD 2. When he watches the first match on the first DVD, he’ll thank me. Anyway, since Robert says the match was one the most entertaining matches he’s seen this year, I’m going to start loudly proclaiming my “I saw this lucha tag match and the ROH/Dragon trios match and enjoyed the lucha match more”, and see how long it takes until people think I’m awesome.

(I should totally rip this match and put it up, but I don’t want to take money of people’s pockets, even if they won’t put it in. MAYBE after this Mistico show, which they better be taping.)

Anyway, you should already know this stuff if out there. If you don’t already visit either of these sites, you can now see a list of latest posts on those blogs under the Lucha Elsewhere on the side bar. (RSS is great, and I may make up RSS for rudopolis just because that’s the kind of thing I do.

db addition: I’ve added Last 5 Matches On TV to the profile cards. It’s been there for some days and no one’s noticed, but I thought I should point it out.

It’s not completely accurate at this point; you can see which shows I’ve indexed here; I’ll add it to the sidebar when it’s better. I hope to eventually integrate that more into the other stuff; full lists of every known time a wrestler made air (in a match, at least) are for sure, links on the event listings point back to the episode aired are probably, wacky w-l records that take up too much CPU time are quite likely. The next step from here is linking in recaps, so at some point in future, you’ll be able to click on a profile and find some reviews of what people think about him (if I get to it.)

Anyway, I’ll probably first try to build TV indexes going back to 2004. It doesn’t seem a hard idea for CMLL (though if someone knows what aired on 07/29, that’d be nice), but AAA’s going to be next to impossible since almost everyone lists them by their taping date instead of the air date. I’ll be doing IWRG and the satellite shows, and maybe the Guadalajara stuff, but I don’t think anything else. Does this sound like a good idea to anyone else?

  1. Random things…

    – Thanks for the mention of the blog!

    – What is RSS?

    – Arguing the Mistico/Parka vs Wagner/Bucanero tag was better than the Dragon Gate ROH match is probably more futile than me trying to pimp Chessman as the best luchador not named Ultimo Guerrero.

    – 7/29 CMLL had:
    3) Black Warrior, Misterioso II, Olimpico b Blue Panther, Satanico, Volador Jr.
    4) Atlantis, Eclipse, Ultimo Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Heavy Metal, Hijo de Lizmark
    5) Mistico, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero b Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Aguila, Terrible

I remember #3 being criminally short and horribly booked.

    – I can help with the AAA air dates b/c once you have a start point, it’s pretty easy to figure out. The only times they don’t stick to schedule are for recap shows or big events that get spread over 2 weeks.

    – I like the idea of eventually being able to look up certain wrestlers and when/where they made television.

After browsing the stuff you’ve indexed so far and pondering the question of who are the top candidates for Luchador of the Year so far b/c of the PWI talk… I’ve come up with a few names:

Ultimo Guerrero, Chessman, Volador Jr., Mistico, Rey Bucanero, Negro Casas, El Averno, El Mephisto, Dr. Wagner Jr., La Parka, Dos Caras Jr., Cerebro Negro, Misterioso II and Black Warrior.

Those would be the top candidates in my mind b/c they’ve had the most actual TV exposure combined with great matches. So people who wanted to argue their case could provide proof unlike with Santo, Negro Navarro, Valiente, Terrible, etc. who have only had limited exposure. I mean, the last thing we need is Angel Azteca to be pimped as Luchador of the Year b/c everyone will blow their load when they see the Tres Aztecas vs Navarro and friends match that will finally hit the net tomorrow or Saturday.

Reading Henrik’s reply from earlier today is actually what got me thinking about Volador Jr. and what an amazing year he has been having. He just doesn’t have any big singles or tag matches to reference to. OTOH, every trios match or Torneo he is involved in – he is easily the best worker. I could see putting him in my #2 slot under Chessman and above Ultimo Guerrero. I’m gonna have to think about this some more though.

  2. Thanks for the nice plug, cubs. AAA is stil the hardest to write up because it’s so highspot heavy. By the way, I do a wrestling search on my on screen cable guide thingie every so often just in case something new comes up, and the FSE show this Sunday Night has a match listed:
    Arkangel, Hooligan, Loco Max vs
Stuka Jr., Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico.
How about that Rob, the Hooligan streak continues on FSE, somebody there must like him. Wasn’t it nice of FSE to actually list a match, they must have asked.

  3. In order

RSS does indeed stand for Real Simple Syndication, but I’m thinking those words mean nothing to non-net geeks.

RSS is like a mailing list for your posts, but with the users completely managing their subscription. You add the RSS feed – Robert’s address is http://luchareviews.blogspot.com/rss.xml – to your RSS reader, your reader checks every so often if anything new was posted, and if there is something new, it’ll grab a link to it or a copy. Saves the trouble of checking thru sites to see if there’s anything new there.

    – the idea of being the insane lucha guy has a certain cache – I’m not even considering the possiblity someone might be swayed to my viewpoint. (With the lucha and the ROH w/DG and the SHIMMER, it’s been quite the ecletic batch of wrestling I’ve seen live this year. I’m worldy or something.) But I’m hoping next Sunday’s match shoots this Janurary out of the water AND someone tapes it. We may have to sneak in a spy camera or something.

    – on AAA: I’m all the way back to the 01/15 show, using rudopolis’ old recaps. I know the Year in review is before that – should that be 01/08, and then no shows on New Years and Christmas? And then after that, it’s quite a bit of guessing.

    – WOTY; other people are having nice years, I agree with you about Volador breaking out, but…unless he blows every spot in the match, Mistico is the unquestioned wrestler of the year. It’s no arguement, the battle is for second.

  4. Based off the images and that video, I don’t think that was Hiromi in the main event. Looks like Okada more than anything. Terrible makeover if it is Hiromi.
