09/07: Coliseo, Guadalajara

international strike force
It looks like Alex Koslov has fallen in with a bad crowd. Good for him!

Apparently, when CMLL hypes something as “final”, they don’t mean “the last/ultimate match.” Silly me for thinking that, since Black Warrior vs Mistico is listed as the final match of the Leyenda de Plata, that’d be it. Atlantis is in Ovaciones today, promoting next week’s match versus the winner of the match. Since Atlantis was originally in block B last week and removed, they’ve changed their mind on what they’re doing a couple times at least.

Atlantis is actually rooting for Mistico to win (and not his teammate), because he would like to destroy the kid. If this match actually happens, I think I’m changing my anniversary prediction to Atlantis/Warrior vs Santo/Mistico.

*new* projected rest of September
09/08: Black Warrior vs Mistico [LdP sf]
09/17: Atlantis vs Mistico [LdP final]
09/22: heat up trios match w/Santo
09/29: Santo/Mistico vs Atlantis/Warrior [losers in a mask match]

If this doesn’t end up with Mistico in a mask match, people are going to be angry.

CMLL (TUE) 09/05 Arena Coliseo Results
0) Bacteria, Cheneque b Antares, Goku
Antares apparently got strechered out at the end of the dark match
1) Astro Boy, Super Nova b Polvora, Vaquero
2) Leono, Sensei, Starman b Artillero, Jeque, Super Comando
3) Arkangel, Hooligan, Nitro b Pantera, Tigre Metalico, Tony Rivera
4) Alex Koslov, Okumura, Pierroth b Metro II, Satanico, Felino
5) Atlantis, Averno, Mephisto b Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal

CMLL (SUN) 09/03 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Estrella de Jalisco, Golden b Flama, Imposter
2) Sahori, Silueta b Atenea, Medusa
3) Gallo, Lider, Mascara Purpura DQ Hombre Sin Nombre, Malefico, Mr. Trueno
Destroyer beat up the tecnicos in the third match. I’m sure he had his reasons.
4) Hiroka b Marcela [CMLL WOMEN]
5) Mascara Ano 2000, Misterioso II, Universo 2000 b Hijo de Lizmark, Lizmark, Volador Jr.
Would you believe that a foul figured into this finish? Crazy!
6) Antrax b Depredador [hair]
This, on the other hand, was clean.

CMLL (TUE) 09/05 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Rey Trueno b Thunder Boy
2) Exterminador b Destroyer
3) Guero Loco b Nube Roja
4) Marcela, Sahori b Hiroka, Medusa
5) Mascara Purpura, Volador Jr. b Hombre Sin Nombre, Misterioso II
In a bit of revenge, Volador got away with pulling Misterioso’s mask and rolling him upf for the win. This match had some spots.
6) Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 b Hijo de Lizmark, Sagrado

Shocker’s been announced as on tonight’s IWRG card, replacing Negro Casas on the tecnico side, which would kinda mean he’s a tecnico, right? (I don’t expect him to last as a Perro.) No Perros on the other side, but Misterioso has been with them.

I forget to mention this on Tuesday, but Panterita has changed his name to Free Lance (may be one word, may be two word.) I think the name has more to do with unbound dives than working on a non-salary basis, but who can say.

AAA updated it’s Upcoming Events section – but still has Shocker listed as participating on the next TV taping. An oversight, but a bad one.

  1. What about the chances of Santo/Atlantis v Mistico/Warrior with the losers in a mask match? How do they normally go about setting up matches like that, or is it normally reserved for tourney finals?

  2. The 9/15 show which is a guaranteed sellout no matter what b/c of the holiday has now officially been thrown in the trash and promises to be the shittiest of shitty shows. CMLL.com says it will be called ‘Mexico vs The World’ which screams Mexicans vs guys pretending to be from other countries and Hiroka. They’ve done this before and I can’t remember a single memorable show. At least Mistico vs Atlantis headlines.

  3. I think that means Gran Prix time.

    TEAM WORLD (guess)
    Koslov
    Okumura
    Ohara
    Pierroth
    Corelone
    Stamboli
    Suzuki
???? – you know, Danger’s not Mexican! (haha no)

    God bless that team.

Earlier this morning, they had some text along the lines of

    “and the card will be:”

and no card. They rephrased it to take that part out later.

    >What about the chances of Santo/Atlantis v
    >Mistico/Warrior with the losers in a mask match?
    >How do they normally go about setting up matches
    >like that, or is it normally reserved for tourney
    >finals?

The first match I can think of them doing something like that was the one where Shocker lost his mask, and now that I check, you’ve got it right (and I’ve got it wrong) – they did Shocker/Niebla vs Atlantis/Villano III (as a match, no tournament final or anything), with the losing team moving on to the mask match. IWRG seems to have done that bit quite a few times in recent years. Something along those lines has to be the plan at the moment.

  4. Hijo de Pierroth gets that last spot, now that I think about it a second more. And, yea, probably Hiroka vs Marcela or India Sioux on the undercard. (Can’t exactly do the Dark Angel match and fit the theme!)

  5. Boy, that would mean either Mistico v Santo in a mask match (Mistico loses mask), or Atlantis v Warrior (Warrior loses mask). Mistico losing his mask like that woudl be one of the biggest errors in wrestling history, and I think if Warrior is going to lose the mask, why not just do it 1-on-1 and get Mistico a mask win? I dont see the point of Atlantis taking it…

And if for some reason the teams would be Warrior/Mistico v Santo/Atlantis….why would you do that, and not just have straight up Warrior v Mistico or Atlantis v Santo? I would think either of those would draw better than a roulette tag match, and be less obvious.

  6. Didn’t we already have a Gran Prix this year with Mexico vs The World with Guerrero going over Stamboli to win?

My card prediction is something along the lines of:
    – Mistico vs Atlantis
    – Four team Mexico vs The World trios tournament with Pierroth/Koslov/Corleone, Goto/Kenzo/Ultimo Dragon, Guerrero/Olimpico/Eclipse, Bucanero/Lizmark Jr./Dos Jr.
    – Hiroka/Shimoda/Ayako Hamada vs 3 random Mexican ladies
    – Stuka Jr./Tigre Blanco/Tigre Metalico vs Ohara/Okumura/Okada or Hijo Del Pierroth

If they do a Parejas Incriebles Suicidas match to setup the Anniversary main event, it’d have to Mistico/Warrior vs Santo/Atlantis or Santo/Aguayo or Bucanero/Guerrero. The idea of teaming two friends together for a match like that defeats the purpose which is to team enemies with the story being somehow they have to learn to love each other just to save both their masks. That was the deal with the ’99 main event where Atlantis/Villano III had the experience and the youngsters just couldn’t get it together.

I still don’t think they will go the route of a Parejas Incriebles Suicidas match though. If they do Mistico vs Warrior, it will be announced on 9/15 and 9/22 will have a tag match to set it up. Maybe Mistico/Wagner vs Warrior/Atlantis. Santo just finished his 5 weeks at Arena Mexico and I’m still not 100% sure they are bringing him back b/c something like that is usually announced beforehand.

  7. Oh yeah, forgot about Dark Angel(shocking, huh?). Well if we must do a farewell for her, I guess she takes Shimoda’s spot. Or Ayako’s. I only picked Ayako b/c she’s supposed to be in Mexico till the 16th.
