Lucha Times

Things I learned while putting this week’s lucha times together.

– I really needed to clean up a few things

– Tripleheaders of Mexican Futbol really screw things up. This week’s Saturday show will start to air at 1 PM in New York, and won’t air on (some) digital cable systems in LA till 9 PM west coast time, or 11 hours later.

– It’s highly unlikely AAA will be skipping an episode this week. Why? When I compared GALA to what Rudopolis has airing the last few weeks in Mexico, I realized GALA is only 1 week behind Mexico. The episode that airs in the US this weekend is the one that aired on Televisa last weekend. At most, they could skip an episode and be on the exact same page as Mexico, but perhaps getting the tape in the right place in time might not be possible. This what I was begging for months and months, and I’m shocked they actually did it. GO whoever convinced Galavision. (Let’s credit Konnan, for no good reason, which balances out when I blame him for no good reason.)

It looks like we’re still lagged, because we’re still in July tapings and will be next week as well. But it’s the same way in Mexico; AAA did 8 full tapings in 5 weeks, so everyone’s a bit behind and I suspect we’ll all be skipping part or most of a taping sometime soon.

– AAA doesn’t have to do a taping until at least Mid September. I don’t think they’re doing another one this month, for sure, but who knows past then.

– ‘Lucha de Vuelta’ is dead, and it took two weeks for me to realize it. The lucha is still airing, but it’s the third airing of the same episode. They could bring it back at any time, but I don’t expect it. If they’ve finally gotten the lag taken care of, I think we need to refocus our complaining to a “instead of airing the same AAA episode three times in 24 hours, why can’t your air CMLL once?” platform.

(And you know, if they start airing CMLL again, they’ll start exactly where they left off.)

– If they brought Lucha de Vuleta back, they ought to put it on Saturday and put the new-er episodes on Sunday. That slot never moves.

– Either the CAN52 or FSE is screwed this week. If the 4 team trios tournament from a few weeks back took a half hour, this 8 team tournament will fill out an hour. One of the shows will just be getting just the tournament (name the last good one night lucha tournament – you can’t!) and nothing else, and that’s not going to be watchable. If you are a person who recaps wrestling on television and you realize your show got the tournament, I suggest you instead spend the hour getting out of the house and doing something more interesting, or at least pop in a different 1 hour TV wrestling show instead of suffering.

(it remains to be seen if i’ll take my own advice.)

The other show will be getting a Dos Caras Jr/Black Warrior main event (which actually doesn’t sound a lot better), and probably the segunda trios match, though I’m holding out hope for crazy mini action. Then again, I picked those matches for CANAL52, because I believe they roll with Leono.

– that made no sense

  1. The last one night good lucha tournament was AAA GUERRA DE TITANES FOR THE MIXED TAG TITLES! TAKE THAT!

This week’s extra shows will probably suck… or they will rule to make up for last week’s FSE show which should have ruled but was a giant piece of crap.

  2. In my down time as I repair my computer, the FSE show was actually cut down to 40 minutes this week due to soccer… they aired the show opening, went to break, then came back in the second fall of the HD Canek-Hooligan-Nitro vs. Virus-Stuka-Leono match… they also had the Caras Jr.-Black Warrior match…
