ref took a bump off Dos’ German Suplex, Universo snuck in a low blow and got the win. The fan who wrote this up was shocking and angered that the commission would allow such cheating. (Really, though, Universo should beat Dos clean at this point.)

Articles
the UK Indepedent runs the usual (generic) lucha libre introduction piece.
– The Corvallis Gazette-Times has a story about the author going to their first lucha show after seeing Nacho Libre. I *think* I just won an argument!

Martha Villalobos chats with Box Y Lucha tomorrow at 2PM.

Box Y Lucha hasn’t release full lineups, but I’ve got the main ones are listed for this week. I’ve discussed the CMLL stuff of note already.

AAA’s announced 3 TV tapings for next week, which includes two Mexican Atomicos title matches (both Dark Family vs Mexipowers) and a tournament of undercarders where the winner gets his ‘dream’; oddly, they seem to have a seeing battle royal on the first show, but have already announced tournament matches for the next two shows. I think wrestling may be fake! Also, the Allthe GWPC title seems to be back and anything going on with Cibernetico isn’t apparently by the lineups.

  1. HOLY SHIT CUBS! A NEW PATH FINDER AND PEGASSO’S RETURN ON THE SAME SHOW?!?!??!?!?

AAA is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too amazing for words.

Holy shit the lineups get better and better… singles matches! Alien group makes their debut! Two Atomicos Titles matches!

I knew these 3 tapings would be amazing but I didn’t think they’d be this amazing.

I think it’s time to stick Pegasso in La Fuerza Aerea. I would be the happiest man in the world if Fuerza Aerea w/ 5 members faced Los Diabolicos, Apache and Kaoma Jr. at Verano De Escandalo, much like the old format for Power Raiders matches.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome. At this point I’d rather they just skip the entire Morelia taping since I only want to see two matches from there. Next week is still supposed to be the MTY taping, then Morelia, then these three I suppose. Plus there’s one more taping booked for August, I just forget where. This would cover TV until early September so if Verano De Escandalo takes place early in the month rather than later, the final taping in August may just be a combo recap show ala the 4/22 Tlaxcala taping.

BTW, the Arena Coliseo opener never happened b/c those wrestlers don’t exist. They announce matches like that when they are planning to have a bonus match added. They just insert generic names to complete a 5 match lineup.

  2. I refuse to believe Zombie did not wrestle. (You would have to care about the new ECW to get this.)

They’ve gotta be planning on showing only a little bit from Morelia and Plaza de Toros, unless they’re not doing another taping till mid September or something or are getting another show.

I know you want to recreate the old days, but I keep meaning to write about how AAA should really dump the atomicos title (since they don’t run those matches outside of title programs) and bring back the AAA Trios (and the Villanos if they’re hiring everyone – notice V3’s working Juba?). FdA would be better as 2 3 trios than some massive group with semi-interchangable guys.

I’d be interested in two atomicos matches if they were two atomicos matches and not the same match twice.

  3. THERE’S A NEW ECW?!?!?!?!?

I totally disagree about the Atomicos Titles. CMLL rarely runs singles matches with mini’s so should they just drop the title even though they still use midgets?

The point of having the belts is b/c AAA has a bunch of groups that could compete for the titles:
    – Secta (perhaps two groups soon if they do a split)
    – MexPower
    – Fuerza Aerea
    – Consagrados
    – Aliens
    – Diabolicos w/ Apache or Espantapajaros w/ Apache
    – Barrios w/ Angel
    – Vipers Revolution
    – Guapos

That’s MORE than enough teams you need to run a division. It may seem like a lot of those groups have guys who are interchangable but I’d rather have an actual group going for the belts rather than them creating trios titles and having some combo of Alebrije, Triple A and Oriental winning them.

If anything CMLL is the company that should be dumping their trios titles. They have two stables in the company where members of each stable are the current champs. They never have any of the same trios teams which always adds to the problem of creating champions and coming up with challengers. Now that’s a mess of a division that was originally created when CMLL had Ola Blanca, Cowboys, Infernales, Intocables, Espectros, etc.

Anyways, the Atomicos Titles have been a staple in AAA since 1998 when the company went in the direction of feuding stables and has never looked back. It’s not that I want to re-create the old days, I just think the belts are perfect for AAA and the product they present. It also makes them different b/c CMLL rarely runs atomicos matches.

The two title defenses in a row deal is probably b/c the first match will be a draw or DQ of some sort. Maybe even a quick title change? They just did Secta vs Fuerza Aerea for the Atomicos Titles twice in a row as well and that was fine.

At least you can’t say the belts aren’t being defended.:) I wonder if Negro Casas even remembers he is the CMLL Middleweight champ?
