1) Arkangel, Hooligan b Leono, Stuka Jr.
2) Hiroka, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra b Marcela, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca
Hiroka requested a shot at Marcela’s CMLL Women’s Championship. Hey, it worked last time!
3) Hombre Sin Nombre & Hector Garza b Maximo & Negro Casas [Gran Alternativa, QF]
4) Misterioso II & Perro Aguayo Jr. b Hijo de Lizmark & Mascara Purpura [Gran Alternativa, QF]
5) Loco Max & Rey Bucanero b Heavy Metal & Texano Jr. [Gran Alternativa, QF]
6) Ultimo Guerrero & Nitro b Dos Caras Jr. & Volador Jr. [Gran Alternativa, QF]
7) Misterioso II & Perro Aguayo Jr. b Hector Garza & Hombre Sin Nombre [Gran Alternativa, SF]
Garza pretty much bailed on Hombre. Sucks to be him!
8) Ultimo Guerrero & Nitro b Loco Max & Rey Bucanero [Gran Alternativa, SF]
This got ugly, with mask ripping and such. Atlantis somehow got involved instead – I keep thinking THAT’s the feud they have to do first (and since the Rey/Ultimo feud is the Ultimate one, Rey’s gotta go over Atlantis in the process – I don’t bet on that happening, though)
9) Misterioso II & Perro Aguayo Jr b Ultimo Guerrero & Nitro [Gran Alternativa, Final]
Revenge win.
10) Dr. Wagner Jr., Mistico b Atlantis, Black Warrior
Clean. No mask matches were agreed upon.

I got the final match and the winner. GO ME.

Back in the morning for the GdR update.

Zap 2 It has a Nacho Libre contest where the winner gets a luchador mask, Nacho Libre t-shirt, and Napoleon Dynamite and School of Rock DVDs. On June 8th, you’ll be able to create your own Nacho Libre comic. (thanks to mikeinformer and Mark Coale (Odessa Steps))

This has nothing to do wtih lucha, but there’s an article in Mi Mercedes about Giant Gonzalez. He’s in a wheelchair now, and hoping the government finally makes good on promises to help them out they made long ago.

The first part of the lucha Walk of Fame in Guadalajara opens on Sunday. They’re going to close down the street and have a celebration before the show that day. They’ll have Salvador Luttertoth, Diablo Velasco, Santo, Rito Romero, Mil Mascaras and Rayo de Jalisco finished on that day, and they’re preparing a second class of El Solitario, Angel Blanco, Alfonso Dantes, Perro Aguayo, Gori Guerrero, Black Shadow and Cavernario Galindo at a later date.

So who’s your final pick in the Gran Alternativa? Let me guess in way too much detail

Q: Rey Bucanero & Loco Max b Negro Casas & Maximo (set up for Sunday)
Q: Ultimo Guerrero & Nitro b Lizmark Jr. & Volador Jr.
Q: Perro Aguayo Jr. & Misterioso II b Heavy Metal & Texano Jr.
Q: Dos Caras Jr. & Volador Jr. b Hector Garza & Hombre Sin Nombre
S: Ultimo Guerrero & Nitro b Rey Bucanero & Loco Max (3 Guerreros and one Rey)
S: Perro Aguayo Jr. & Misterioso II b Dos Caras Jr. & Volador Jr.
F: Perro Aguayo Jr. & Misterioso II b Ultimo Guerrero & Nitro (Perros get revenge win over Ultimo)

Arena de Chicago DVD: Mistico & LA Park vs Dr. Wagner Jr. & Rey Bucanero

At the Shimmer show a couple weekends ago, Rob (I hope I’m not getting my Rob’s confused) asked me about the DVDs I picked up of last January’s shows. I’d only see part of the first DVD (checking to see if I made video, so I could recoil in horror and such), but since people might be able to purchase them this weekend at the Congress Theatre show, I thought I should check both out.

Digression 1: So I called* the Congress today, and besides confusing the heck out of whoever picked up – I thought they might know something about the Saturday lucha show (no, but now I know there’s a private DJ show there on Saturday and I’m not invited!) – I found out the Sunday show starts at 4 pm.

After hanging up, I realized I should’ve asked “4 pm doors open or bell time?” That’s gotta be doors open, with the show at 5. (That’s my plan, anyway.)

Digression 1.5: Does actually calling someone for information cost me my blogger license? That’s far too pro-active for someone writing on the internet. I’m gonna lose all sorts of cred in one day.

Digression 2: I realized I have a baseball ticket for Saturday, so, uh, I’m going there and not driving all over Dundee to track down a Canek match. This may make me a horrible person, but I’ll live.

Digression 3: before they got turned off for too much data transfer, the Arenas de Chicago page listed shows…on June 16th and 17th.

Back to the point…

What follows is very limited thoughts about the matches themselves – no play by play – but more details about how the DVD looks and sounds, because that was what Rob was wondering about. I believe I’ve posted about these shows in the past, if not here or elsewhere, and many of the match comments are echos of what I said before.

06/01: Queretaro, box y lucha

That’s totally Ramstein and not Jeque in the cover shot of El Halcon #63. They’re going to take my badge away if I keep messing up vital information like that.

The link to El Halcon #63 isn’t up as I type this, but fooling around, I’ve been able to skim a couple pages. Early highlights are finding out Mascara Purpura was born in Florida (being an American totally explains the standing SSP in mind, and yet now I have more questions), and Mr. Mexico via google’s translation on his style: “Very robust and very bad”. Don’t look at me, he said it.

CMLL (TUE) 05/30 Arena Queretaro Results [arenaqro]

5) Dr. Wagner Jr., La Máscara, Mistico b Atlantis, Villano IV, Villano V
Villanos filled in for Sangre and Olimpico

The big Monterry show is supposed to be back on, for July 1st

HEB (SAT) 07/01 Arena Monterrey Results [lomejordeluchalibre]
1) Mascarita Sagrada, Octagoncito vs Jerrito Estrada, Piratita Morgan
2) Satanico, Volador Jr. vs Emilio Charles Jr., Hombre Sin Nombre

6) Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo del Santo, Negro Casas vs Atlantis, Black Warrior, Blue Demon Jr.

I don’t know. Don’t trust any card where Mil Mascaras is supposed to be working 4th from the top is all I’m saying.

Box Y Lucha #2768 is up
Cover is on Rey’s turn, poster highlights the women’s match..
– Interviews with guys in the Gran Alterntiva.

Misterioso II is hoping the third try is lucky; he at least snagged a good partner in Perro. He’s gotten farther each year so far, and he’s been training hard.

Hombre Sin Nombre thinks it’s a big responbitlity to be teaming with someone like Garza, “the best rudo in Mexico”, and is proud to be in the tournament. This could open many doors!

Rey Bucanero reminds us he’s won this as the ‘rookie’, teaming with Emilio. Having been on both sides of it, Rey feels advancing is much more dependent on the rookie’s perfomance than the vet’s.

Nitro is happy to have Ultimo Guerrero as a partner. Nitro feels ready to go the main event and hopes to prov eit.

– Interview with El Dorado, who talks about a big mask match he was building to against El Supremo, until the 1985 earthquake destroyed the economy and his career
– Interview with Monterry area wrestler el Elejecutor.
– In IWRG, Veneno and Pierroth have decided to stop leading groups against each other, and take over Mexico instead. The new Corporation faction includes Veneno, Bestia Salvaje, both Head Hunters and Pierroth – the other Pierroths and the Cerebros are left out.
– Rambo relates the time, el Trotamundos, near the end of his career while Rambo was starting off, suprised and beat him in a match.
– There’s a repost of the El Dandy Wants In CMLL story
– and a story about rumors of Santo having done Adult movies – no one seems to have a copy, but it’s an urban legend.

The New York Times lucha libre article, hidden in their premium site, was also syndicated to other newspapers who don’t have a pay site. That’s awful goofy of them.

There are new posters for Nacho Libre, and if you buy some shoes from Footlocker, you get a free Nacho Libre poster. (Thanks to mikeinformer.)
