On Gala

GALA aired

01/19/06 Toluca
Jerrito Estrada & Mini Chessman vs Prince Star & Mascarita Sagrada (AAA)
Prince as a gimmick – smart! Better worker than Iaeuka, I’m guessing. 3 falls
Barrio Boys vs Vatos Locos (Silver Cat, Nygma, Picudo)
At what point did Espiritu leave the group, anyway? They were pro-Apache rudos here.
* finishes from the Mexican Middleweight championship tournament, leading up to
Histeria vs Psicosis II [MEX MIDDLE, SF]
Cassandro, Charly, Chessman vs Pumpi, Intocable, La Parka II
Cibernetico vs Abismo Negro [cage]

Seemed like a ton of filler.

05/27: Mexico results, GdR

CMLL (FRI) 05/26 Arena Mexico Results
Show was said to be fast – around 2 hours?
1) Bam Bam, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito b Fire, Mini Violencia, Pierrothito
2) Amapola, Hiroka, Medusa b Dark Angel, Marcela, Mima Shimoda
Tecnicas did not get along.
3) Blue Panther, Mr. Niebla, Último Dragón b Apolo Dantés, Misterioso II, Tarzan Boy
4) Felino, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas b Averno, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero
Rey wrestled cleanly, which annoying his teammates – they lost, and Rey got beat up by his teammates. The Casas Family saved him, and they teased Rey’s tecnico turn again.
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo de Lizmark, Mistico DQ Atlantis, Black Warrior, Último Guerrero
In the third fall, rudos ripped off Mistico’s mask for the DQ. Wagner tried to cover him up and got his mask ripped. Tecnicos challenges to a Wagner/Mistico vs Atlantis/Warrior match next week, and I figure things might come to a head if they get that match.

Guerreros del Ring matches are both from 05/21 Arena Coliseo
La Máscara, Lizmark Sr., Volador Jr. vs Máscara Año 2000, Misterioso II, Universo 2000
Dos Caras Jr., Heavy Metal, Negro Casas vs Averno, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero

The Mistico/Wagner vs Atlantis/Ultimo match will not air.

Dos Caras Jr. is doing a MMA match today.

05/26 news: IWRG, Sangre vs the World

IWRG (SUN) 05/21 Arena Naucalpan Results

3) Black Jaguar, Fantasma de la Ópera, Xibalva b Avisman, Panterita, Star Boy
4) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Veneno b Ave Fenix, Puma, Vertigo
Veneno pinned Puma with his feet on the ropes, so Puma wants an IWRG IC Middle championship
5) Pantera, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Sicodelico Jr. DQ Canek, Gran Markus Jr., Pierroth

Ovaciones has the usual Friday preview. They note that last week, Mima Shimoda and Dark Angel were feuding, and now suddenly they’re on the same side. Speculation about Wagner/Atlantis being this year’s Anniversary main event (nah) and Bucanero not getting along with his partners (yeah.)

In Japan, Sangre Azteca (yay he made it), Black Tiger IV and Fuego had a joint practice session and talked to the press earlier today. They all want to win and all the titles, which is the way to go. Sangre used a move he called “Azteca de Oro”, which appears to be an over the shoulder backbreaker move of some sort. (Thanks to Strong Style Spirit for some info.)

The Super J tournament starts tommorow. I’m going to be charting it over on the main blog, because it’s fun, but let’s look over Sangre’s schedule one more time.

05-27 vs Ryusuke Taguchi – This is probably the most pivotal matchup he’s got; if Sangre gets a win here, he could be in the hunt for a top two position till the end. If not, he’s likely going to be scrapping for points. Up till recently, I’d guess Sangre and Taguchi were about on the same level, but Taguchi seems like he’s been coming on off late. Wouldn’t be crazy to see a draw here.
05-29 vs Fuego – Gotta figure Fuego’s the last man here. If Sangre doesn’t win this, he’s the last man.
06-01 vs Minoru – tough matchup for Sangre. I figure Minoru’s a top 2 favorite (with Lyger).
06-04 vs El Samurai – in past years, Sangre picking up a win here would have seem a possiblity, but Samurai’s moved back up with his Junior Tag reign and should win here
06-09 vs Jushin Liger – this is much more about how long Sangre can take him
06-14 vs Jado – Sangre could sneak a win out here. It’s a second-to-last day match, and those often turn on what will set up the most climatic final first round match, but don’t expect either guy to be in the running.
(He’ll get non-tournament matches on many of the off days.)

Expectations
– under 4 points (2 points = 1 win) is a disappiontment
– 4 points for Sangre is about average.
– 6 points is a success, even though it won’t advance him
– 8 points is cause for dancing in streets

Santo’s scheduled to work Tuesday’s Arena Juba de Reynosa card.

In Arena Solidaridad on Sunday, Princesa Sueji and Diana La Cazadora have a singles match. It’s listed as “WWE style”, and there’s so many jokes there I can’t even start. I’m guessing it’s supposed to mean “strip your opponent”, but it could mean “everyone not named Trish will look quite bad at least twice during this match.” (Couldn’t help myself.)

Some additional lineups, which I’ll repeat next week:

05/25 news: Juba, Guadalajara

Ovaciones mini stories for today
– hype for Ramstein vs Explosion (who’s not Explosivo here)
– hype for IWRG’s card tonight, with a mention that Canek has requested a shot at the UWA Heavyweight Championship (again)
– hype for a AAA sponsored MMA card next Saturday
– TripleMania will be on 06/18 (during the World Cup – but Mexico doesn’t play that day) at Toreo de Cuatro Caminos. That is the same day as the TNA PPV. That’s also the weekend Nacho Libre debuts in the US.

AAA (TUE) 05/23 Arena Juba de Reynosa Results
1) Rocker Boy b El Chacal
2) Bufalo & Chamco Ortiz b Black Star, Misterio Negro
3) La Parkita & Mini New b Mini Abismo Negro & Mini Chessman
4) Espiritu & Charly Manson b Super Boy & Estrella Dorado
5) Vampiro b La Fiera
La Fiera replaced the suspended Cibernetico, so they’re at least following thru on this suspenion for one day.

CMLL (TUE) 05/23 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Idolo b Destroyer
2) Carlo Roggi b Guero Loco
3) Leono b Madnona
4) Cesar Dantes, Tarzan Boy b Hijo de Lizmark, Rayman
5) Cien Caras Jr., Hijo de Cien Caras b Sagrado, Texano Jr. [Occidente TAG]
Sounds like it came down to Cien Jr. vs Sagrado, and Cien got an electric chair suplex for the win and to send Sagrado to the hospital.
6) Asesino Negro, Emilio Charles Jr. b Brazo de Plata, Mr. Niebla

Contra Coast Times. (Ex-)indy wrestler accuses Jack Black of stealing his gimmick, demands a match to settle it all. The sun rises in the morning.

Reading for a slow day: stumbled upon a pdf with the rules and regulations of Benito Juarez’s Box Y Lucha comission. I’ve cut down to the lucha specfic parts here. Besides semiuseful stuff I care about (like actual defintions of weight limits!), there’s also rules like

– local titles must be defended at least once 45 days
– you can change your name only once every two years, with permission of the comission
– anyone who loses a mask can reapply for a new mask after three years, with the approval of the comission
– if you are in a title match, you must get the show 4 hours early to weigh in
– you must have your last meal six hours before your match

There’s also a note that the local champions are supposed to be published in the offical papers of the state. I may do some looking this afternoon…

Lucha Times

Do you love the AAA? Good for you. This is your weekend. (Meanwhile, I think GALA has ripped out my heart. But that’s okay.)

Saturday: It’s a 3 hour slot once again, so we’re still with AAA. This should be the first taping of the ’06 year, including the Zumdido/Histera tournament final. Chui recapped the show on his site; I guess I could index all Robert’s AAA recaps, but I’ve lost the will to live and all.

Sunday: If Galavision was run by non-dumb people, they could probably skip a recap episode when they’re months behind new episodes. But they won’t, and so this will be the 2005 AAA recap (which I’m guessing should’ve aired before the episode which aired this past week.)

GdR: The main event tag match is a given. They’ve been showing the semi-main event, and GdR seems to be put together by someone different than the Televisa shows (which have de-emphaized the Rey tecnico turn, counter to how it’s been played up live), so I think they’ll keep the pattern.

They’ve been hitting the Wagner/Mistico team so hard on Sundays/CAN52MX, I’m guessing the person in charge of that show isn’t the same one running the Friday/Televisa ones – it’s being run no differently than the other weekly/biweekly spot shows (Puebla, Guadalajara, Queretaro), where they just try to reflect what’s going on but have free reign to also run their own stuff.

I’m not sure what that means, or if that means anything, and maybe that’s the way it’s always been but I didn’t notice it because it was on TV (that I was watching.) It strikes me just as odd that, even throwing out the rest of the week, a company can’t book the top three matches on Friday and the top three matches on Sunday with one coherent vision. Six matches is harder than I thought.

Referees suspended

It’s going around! (still)

I neglected mentioning this earlier, but CMLL.com announced today that LA Park is suspended 15 days for his actions last Friday. (Not sure if that starts today or back to last Friday.) Also, the referees in the match – Baby Richard and Terror Chino – are also suspended for allowing Park to use “prohibited devices” (chairs.) Terms of their suspensions weren’t mentioned – I guess maybe just this week?
