Man of Mystery

‘ccording the lineup they just released on TNA’s site, the fourth man in Team Mexico is Incognito (aka Mystico aka Mistico Juarez.) There had been talking about getting him since the inital CMLL fall out (with a mention of him having a hand injury), and I wonder if he and Magno have worked together previously?

On tonight’s TNA show, famous Mexican PUMA faces Chris Sabin. The PPV will have Team Japan’s Jushin Lyger vs Team Canada’s Petey Williams, and a 16 man rumble match. I think they’re shaping up for some sort of tie, so a bonus match wouldn’t be out of the question.

Here’s a stupid question – why do they have 4 man teams? They only needed three – 2 for the tag match, 1 for the singles match, and then everyone’s working the battle royale anyway. Either there was another round of single matches which were cut, or the lack of thought out planning here extended far past the Team Mexico problems.

  1. Mistico de Juarez was using the name Mistico way before the popular CMLL Mistico. He has worked on top and in the semi-mains on a lot of Monterray cards, as well of course in El Paso & Juarez. He & Magno know each other and have worked together many times. Mistico de Juarez is another incredible luchador that outside people haven’t seen much before. Hopefully he’ll will get a better matchup than last week’s Canada B-team.

Magno is slated for a minimum of 4 dates (he was at the last PPV even though he didn’t work due to no Abmiso Negro and then the Impact taping so 2 are done).

  2. I still dislike people who complain about the Mystico name thing b/c stolen gimmicks have been part of Lucha Libre for many years. This isn’t the first time it’s happened and it certainly won’t be the last. In fact, all the complaining about his gimmick being stolen takes away from the fact – THE GUY IS REALLY GOOD! I haven’t seen a singles match with him yet(we need those Juarez DVD’s!) but everything he has done on AAA TV and Monterrey TV has been ridiculously great for an unknown guy. I’m hoping the reason he hasn’t been pushed yet is just b/c of his recent injury. Pena is sitting on a goldmine with this guy.

Of course it will be hard for TNA fans to notice this when he gets jammed into a match with 16 guys and is eliminated within 3 minutes.

  3. I was thinking all week that there were going to do like a four way with each team’s fourth man, because there’s not much announced for that show still and it’s, uh, Sunday. That’d be a perfect way to show off Incognito.

Of course, if that were true, then as much as I love Shocker, he would’ve blown his strategy here.

Tag Team: Los Reyes de Aires de Juarez (Incognito & Magno)
    one on one singles: Shocker
four way singles: Puma (since that’s basically how he got that spot)

Hey, Dr. Lucha Jr., do you know a guy named Joe who might know something about Juarez DVDs? The people at LuchaWorld really miss him!

  4. Well, i’ve never saw him on AAA Tv or TV Azteca – but from the matches i’ve saw of him in Arena Coliseo De Monterrey, i’d like to second or third the sentiments that he is indeed awesome!

I don’t watch TNA but i’ll definitely be checking that out now. It’s also great for Incognito that he’s getting be getting some mainstream exposure.

And when fans inevitably express an interest when they see him, then the Best of ACASA 2004 DVD could do great, so hopefully it does get released.

  5. I think at the previous World X Cup, they have 4 man teams, and some sort of big 4 vs. 4 vs. 4 vs. 4 match. However, I am not sure about any of this.

I imagine they had to change a lot of World X Cup plans, though, due to problems putting together a team Mexico.

  6. You have to ask youreslf though, if they’re taking on these relativew unknown guys, why did they not accept any CMLL workers when they were offered?

Are TNA really that dumb to think that only the headlining guys are good – or did they just spit the dummy after being knocked back with their first choices

I’d sure love to see that list of CMLL guys they were offered…

  7. One thing that I think everyone forgets when talking about TNA is that they do not want to pay anyone for anything unless they are a washed up WCW name, or a WWE firing. Trust me on this, a lot of the guys they have working that are not under contract, are getting less than $100.

So you have to wonder if perhaps TNA said “who can we get from you for these dates for $X”, and CMLL sent a list of their bottom tier guys, because anyone like Mistico or Wagner or whomever, would be taking a huge paycut compared to what they could make in Mexico. Rather than pony up the money for some higher priced talent, they instead offered most of $X to Shocker, and then paid the rest of the guys on Team Mexico the usual TNA payday.

Look at the entire “foreign contingent”:
Tanaka – sent to North America by NJPW for seasoning, is on their payroll
Goto – sent to North America by NJPW for seasoning, is on their payroll
Black Tiger – on NJPW payroll, trains at NJPW dojo
Puma – trains at NJPW dojo
Liger – NJPW star, may be on their payroll for this, but is doing the PPV only
Shocker – probably the second highest paid guy on this list, behind Liger. Speaks English well.
Magno – obscure secondary town wrestler
Incognito – obscure secondary town wrestler
Johnny Devine – trained at matchmaker Scott DMore’s school
Eric Young – under TNA contract
Petey Williams – under TNA contract
    Who is the 4th Canadian?
