lucha times

This is the most pointless one ever.

Saturday: I have no idea. It’s another split feed/skewed time slot. No indication on what will air; Galavision stopped updating their preview, so we’re flying blind.

Sunday: This, I know – it’s a Santo/Mistico/Wagner vs Ultimo/Averno/Mephisto main.

GdR: I’m wishcasting for Los Tigres, but that’s probably not going to happen. I’m sure we’re getting the Mistico match.

04/12 news: Puebla, Coliseo results

Ovaciones talks about Mephisto about his big match on Good Friday. Mep’s going with the usual line of thinkig: we’re more experienced as a team than any of our competition. Averno and he have faced Mistico many times, so they’ve got some plans to take care of his speed. Mephisto’s gone back to the lab/ring this week, and is working on a few new moves to catch the challengers off guard – a powerbomb variant is mentioned in particular.

Ovaciones also runs “if you see someone trying to buy a car wearing an Atlantis mask, it’s not Atlantis!” story; I don’t know if this is still happening or if they’re just telling the same stories again.

04/11 news: halcon

Hijo del Solitario is chatting on Box Y Lucha, although it’s probably over by the time you read this.

Ovaciones is in generic preview mode. Will it be a Good Friday for Mistico, and such. They’ve got a different lineup for Arena Aficion than I; I don’t think Hero and Castagnoli are there this week, but I could be wrong.

El Halcon Net #59 is up:
– Interview with Mephisto. Mep says his first match was a surprise to him; he had be training, but he was a emergency fill in. The start of the Infernales breakup was due to Satanico – he wouldn’t give them a vote in any decision, and wouldn’t let them accept the Mexican Trios titles when Nicho no showed and caused them to be vacated. Mephisto confirms the designs he and Averno have now were designed by fans. There was a contest, but they never really announced a winner. Mephisto, when talking about injuries he’s suffered, says he can’t straighten his hands at the moment, but he likes what he’s doing so it’s fine. Mephisto says he eats mostly fruits, vegetables, chicken and fish for his vitamins. Mephisto remembers fondly the UWA period of Angel Blanco, Anibal, Solitario, and Dr. Wagner – those include his favorite wrestlers.
– Interview with Sahori; she spells it with no y. Sahori grew up disliking lucha libre and thinking wrestlers were just clowns. One day, her niece invited her to a show, she saw a women’s match, and her feelings on lucha completely changed. She trained for two years before her first match. She’s retired for two years during her career but feels she’s recovered the lost time. Her greatest rivals were Hiroka, Amapola, Princesa Sujei and La Nazi, and hopes to get and keep a good place in CMLL.
– Arena Queretaro results. Super Comando & Artillero retined the Queretaro tag team championship over Trueno & Sombre de Plata.
– Interview with Ultimo Dragoncito. Dragoncito becomes the first person I’ve read to compare wrestling in Japan, Mexico, the US, and Costa Rica. (In case you’re wondering, he says Costa Rica is “very commercial.” And of course Mexico is the bestest.) His normal partner is Mini Olimpico, he’d like to fight for Pierrothito’s mask, and seems to be starting a new rivalary with Mini Damian. Ultimo Dragon gave the okay to the name, but they have different styles. Besides wrestling, Ultimo Dragonicto works in an electronic store. I wonder if he asks for your zip code when you buy batteries? Sadly, Halcon doesn’t ask “how didn’t you die that one time you took that horrible dive into the floor?”
– Addicion Luchistica talks about Scorpio Jr., Alan Stone, Ultimo Dragon, Dos Caras Jr., and the big Dark Angel/Amapola apuestas match.
– Interview with India Sioux. India never figured on working for CMLL; she didn’t think they’d bring back women’s wrestling to Arena Mexico, which got her in the door and got her more bookings elsewhere. This April will be her fourth year in wrestling (though the first two are just training.) India explains her family tree (proving she reads this blog! maybe)

Father: La Marquesa
Mother: India Sioux I
Uncles: La Marquesa, Pirata Morgan, Verdugo
Cousins: Pirata Morgan, Rey Bucanero
Brother: one who is about to debut

Despite the family connections, India wanted to make her own way into lucha, and started out training in secret with Puma (I doubt the NJ-LA one; a student of her father) for a year before working with her father, and then Jose Luis Feliciano and CMLL. She has yet to win a trophy of any kind, though she’s been in matches where other people won hairs. Even though she and Marcela are on the same side and frequent partners, she’d really like a shot at the CMLL Women’s Championship. Or maybe a hair match versus La Nazi.
– recap of the OLX Hardcore show. If you like blood, this is for you.

04/10 news: Coliseo results, lineups

CMLL (SUN) 04/09 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Danger, Sombra de Plata b Artillero, Super Comando
2) India Sioux, Lady Apache, Princesa Blanca b Hiroka, La Nazi, Medusa
3) Emilio Charles Jr., Loco Max, Nitro b Mascara Purpura, Máximo, Pantera
4) Pierroth, Shigeo Okumura, Takemura b Brazo de Oro, La Máscara, Negro Casas
5) Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Mistico b Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza

The latest with Team Mexico in TNA seems to be going in an AAA direction, with Shocker, Abismo Negro, and two of a whole bunch of people. This is still very subject to change; I don’t think anyone will know for sure until they actually appear on TV.

Apparently TNA was sent a list from CMLL of people they could use and the names they wanted weren’t on that list. I’d give an arm and a leg to see that list. Also, I think someone needs to explain the basic reality of a four team competition is three teams will lose! If you’re running TNA and you’re sane (iffy), which team is going to finish fourth?

– Team USA, regular TNA workers
– Team Canada, regular TNA workers
– Team Japan, when they’re trying to tighten up NJPW/TNA relations?
– Team Mexico, who may not ever be easily available again, regardless of who awesome they are

Why do you need super names for a fourth place? It’s a great place to take risks on unknown people. If they pay off, do something with them down the road. If they don’t, forget about it.

PWU has tied up with XLAW. You care because? Right.

Lineup Notes
– Parka and Octagon defend the Mex tag against Chessman & Cibernetico again
– No IWRG show or Arena Neza show this Thursday; they’re specifically off.
– NGX’s show is subtitled “Total Disaster”
– Sr. Estupido wrestles on the opener of a Villalobos show.

04/09 news: Accion

Not much news; Ovaciones previews today’s Coliseo card and next Friday’s Arena Mexico lineup (giving the photo slot to Dark Angel.)

Accion highlights

CMLL: GdI vs PdM trios match. Hey, Tony Salazar ref’d this match too; is he a new regular for someone? Mr. Aguila got in a low blow heel kick on Tarzan as Damian distracted Tony Salazar.

AAA: the AAA/TNA trios match of all things (Cibernetico, Chessman, Muerte Cibernetia vs “Franky Gerdelm, Scott D’Amore, Border Patrol”). That’s Michael Modest in his one-time TNA get up. They highlight a Chessman clothesline on Modest, Modest low blowing Cibernetico, and Franky low blowing Chessman. I’m sure there’s a point to your top rudo group getting laid out by random people from TNA (including SCOTT D’AMORE AS A WRESTLER), but I fear the concept is “managing something dumber than the UPW match from last Triplemania”.

next week’s Arena Mexico card

Following up earlier – I so did not plan this many updates today – the Arena Mexico lineup is up at CMLL.com.

CMLL (FRI) 04/14 Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Tony Rivera & Crazy Boy vs Super Comando & Artillero
2) Satanico, Volador Jr., Mascara Purpura vs Hombre Sin Nombre, Misterioso II, Nitro
3) LA Park, Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal vs Universo 2000, Pierroth, Olimpico
4) Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy vs Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Damian 666
5) Dark Angel vs Amapola [hair, mask]
6) Averno & Mephisto vs Negro Casas & Mistico [CMLL TAG]

I would assume that’s the 1st ever women’s match to be a semi main event in Arena Mexico (but I don’t know for sure.) I know for sure this is Crazy Boy’s debut on a CMLL card in Arena Mexico (he’d appeared on a Toryumon show last year.) I’d bet we know the main event of 04/28 by the time this one is over.

No big surprises on either Coliseo card. Mistico main events both shows against a GdA team.

wondering: Black Warrior is not booked on any of these three cards this week. He only worked the Puebla show last week, as far as I know. I haven’t heard anything about him and I probably should wait til the Box Y Lucha lineups but it’s odd.
