GdR #17

03/18/06

The Pantera/Okumura match was quite unbelivable for the Pantera/Okumura stuff alone, and there was plenty of other good stuff (Virus killing Sangre with a forearm on an attempted dive for one.) That match exceeded my expectations, while the main event was exactly as you’d expect.

I’d like to have yesterday’s show recapped today, but we’ll see.

03/25 News pt 2: Two Big Singles Matches and One Big Tournament

CMLL.com posted lineups for this week, and there’s some significant news coming out of them

– Arena Mexico’s main event will indeed be Black Warrior vs Mistico, and they do appear to be on the road to a mask match.
– They’ll also be running a 2006 edition of La Copa Junior, which had previously been reported (just by Dave?) as being canceled for this year. Shocker won last year, but, uh, he won’t be defending the title. The lineup

Dr. Wagner Jr. (Dr. Wagner Sr.)
Brazo de Plata (Shadito Cruz)
Dos Caras Jr. (Dos Caras Sr.)
La Mascara (Brazo De Oro)
Lizmark Jr. (Lizmark)
Heavy Metal (Pepe Casas)
Volador Jr. (“Remo Banda”)
Negro Casas (Pepe Casas)
Perro Aguayo Jr. (Perro Aguayo Sr.)
Olimpico (Roy Aguirre)
Hector Gazra (Humberto Garza)
Apolo Dantes (Alfonso Dantes)
Mascara Magica (Troyano)
Mephisto (Kahoz)
Misterioso II (Misterioso)
Averno (Rodolfo Ruiz)

It appears it’ll be one night of 15 matches instead of over three weeks as last year. That didn’t work out well at all with Leyenda de Azul last year and I would expect a short main event as a result. I don’t believe these are in bracket order or anything; they’ll probably do the battle royal seeding. I have no idea who wins – Dos? Metal? Garza? I’d be against Perro, because

– Not to completly bury the lede, but: 16 days after Perro Aguayo Jr. beat Universo 2000 for his hair, they’ll already have their first big rematch, next Sunday in Arena Coliseo. Expect cheap finishes and Universo getting his win back.

Galavision’s airing what I have listed, in case you’re wondering.

GdR Lineup

Starman sure looks like he eats well in that picture.

Canal52’s website listings are wrong. Should’ve always trusted Mesala.

Lineup:
03/19 Coliseo: La Máscara, Pantera, Satánico b Hombre Sin Nombre, Masada, Misterioso II
03/19 Coliseo: Mistico b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Seems like they’re going to air a bonus match from Arena Coliseo on any week with a major Arena Mexico show (rather than air whatever was unaired there.)

Warrior, Mistico, whatever. You’ve heard this tune. New wrinkle is Warrior wants a singles match next week. Think maybe Warrior gets the big singles win to set up the mask match?

Hey, so, it’s 12:40 and I’m done for the day, right? Right? (If I manage to tape GdR tommorow, I’ll post what was on.)

03/24 news: Arena Mex preview, AAA notes

The next major show is 04/27 (50th Anniversary of Arena Mexico), and the best guess is Mistico vs Warrior for masks. They don’t seem to be setting up anything else today, besides the usual women’s stuff. That looks like a week tecnica crew, but we’ll see.
On Sunday in Arena Aragon, a tribute show for Pequeno Gigante. Main event is Brazo de Oro, Brazo de Plata, Brazo de Platino and Rambo versus the Payasos.

Ovaciones also has a whole bunch of AAA notes, though most of it’s stuff that’s been covered
– Rob Killings and Samoa Joe are due on the 03/31 taping – Joe is booked outside of Chicago on the same day, so something’s getting dropped. (Probably AAA.)
– Electro Shock and Charly Manson are friends again.
– King of the Tombstone Abismo Negro getting a Tombstone was ironic (though they don’t get around to mentioning who did it to him.)
– Laredo Kid, Rey Cometa, Nemesis and Super Fly are teaming up and calling themselves la Fuerza Aerea (Aerial Force).
– AAA’s running shows on 04/02 and 04/07.

03/23 results: Aficion, Meteorix, Takemura

CMLL (TUE) 03/21 Arena Aficion Results [ova]
1) Furia Extreme ?? Hidroman
2) Exotico, Payaso Tirantin b Intruso, Mensajero de la Muerte
3) Loco Max, Misterioso II b Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metálico
4) Atlantis, Sangre Azteca b Máximo, Mr. Niebla
5) La Máscara, Mistico b Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
That’s an upset. La Mascara got Ultimo while Mistico got Rey in the final fall.

Ovaciones has an update on Meteorix’s arm injury, and none of it’s good – it’s compared to Gronda’s serious knee injury. It sounds like he just landed badly on a (springboard?) dropkick, causing him an elbow injury and multiple fractures. Operation lasted three hours, complicated by adapted the usual internal bracing screws/nails for a man of Meteorix’s size. (The one going in his arm is 270mm long.) If his body adapts to it okay, he goes home on Friday and will spend three to four months just recovering. He’s not expected back in the ring for five months.

Ovaciones also says Takemura will be coming back to Mexico for a two week tour, which should include a Arena Mexico appearance. (Yay!) This isn’t a NJPW deal; he left them earlier this year.

Chessman, Ozz, Cuervo, and Escoria did hold onto the Mex Atomico titles over the Guapos in Oaxaca.

ABC News.com has a big bio on Rey Misterio, leading up to WrestleMania. Not much new stuff. (Thanks to MikeInformer)

La Fiera, who’s been MIA for months, turns up in Monterrey this Sunday and Monday on the rudo shows.

AAA’s site now has it’s own PHP board (though you have to work to get there – they can’t get the link to work from their own webpages.) Figure it’ll get hacked like the CMLL one. Notice it’s listed as “yourdomain.com”.
