03/31 news: Mexico lineup, Onion, other stuff

Not much news today. Ovaciones still thinks Samoa Joe will be in Mexico today, and I guess I’m going to have to go to Chicago Ridge to find the Truth! (who probably will be in Mexico, so good luck finding him.)

CMLL (FRI) 03/31 Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Mascara Purpura, Neutrón, Virus vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hombre Sin Nombre, Shigeo Okumura
2) Dark Angel, Diana La Cazdora, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Medusa, Princesa Sujei
3) Blue Panther, Satánico, Último Dragón vs Pierroth, Takemura, Tarzan Boy
4) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Brazo de Plata and Dos Caras Jr. and La Máscara and Lizmark Jr. and Heavy Metal and Volador Jr. and Negro Casas and el Hijo del Perro Aguayo and Olímpico and Héctor Garza [Copa Jr.]
5) Mistico vs Black Warrior

Obviously, you gotta figure they’ll be making challenges for the mask match.

CMLL (THU) 03/30 Arena Isabel de Cuervanaca Results [box y lucha]
1) Cholo, Vampiro Metalico b Antaris, Kid Tiger
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache b Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) Villano IV, Villano V b Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy
4) Dos Caras Jr., El Hijo Del Santo b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza
recapper unhappily noted some fans were throwing objects at the rudos, including eggs and “heads and legs of chicken”. I guess I’m not supposed to find that hilarious, but I can’t help it. Some of those fans were thrown out.

CMLL (MON) 04/03 Arena Puebla Lineup
1) Fenix & Super Star vs Mr. Rafaga & Murcielago
2) Zigma, SWAT, Kirvan vs Fuerza Tiger, Fuerza Chicana, Ares
3) Centella de Oro, Asturiano, the Tiger vs Misterioso II, Negro Navarro, Kraken
4) Heavy Metal, Hijo de Lizmark, La Mascara vs Averno, Mephisto, Olimpico
5) Mistico, Negro Casas, Dos Caras Jr. vs Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis, Black Warrior

Did I link the Onion “Illegal Mexican Wrestlers” article this week? Some parts are far less parody than the writer may believe. Call me crazy, but the first picture, labeled Rey Misterio, sure looks like Tarzan Boy booting Dos Caras Jr. I guess you could tell better if Dos was standing up. It may still be too soon for that last paragraph.

Rudopolis has a news update and show reports from this past week.

There’s an update about the Chicago lucha shows in April.

Not quite as local (to me), IWR‘s been running some bizzaro lineups; combinations of US indy talent and Mexico lucha stars. Their next show, 05/06, are scheduled to have Ultimo, Rey, Wagner and LA Park. Road trip, anyone? It’s only a 6 hour trip! (Thanks to mikeinformer for the reminders.)

03/30 news: Box Y Lucha

In today’s ovaciones, Black Warrior lays out his three point plan to stop Mistico
1) Beat him in a singles match, thus forcing him into a mask match.
2) Take his mask
3) Permanently end his rise up the card (which 1+2 mostly accomplish)

Good luck on that.

Suicida faced Cerebro Negro tonight in a hair match after beating Dr. Cerebro for his two weeks ago.

Saturday is the start of CMLL cards in Arena Lopez Mateos for the year; Ovaciones says they’re running them every eight days, which can’t be correct.

Box Y Lucha #2759 is up. Besides the Brazo de Oro story
cover focuses on Warrior vs Mistico
poster features Dr. Wagner & Mistico, and Hiroka
– Rivals of Santo: Espanto I. In their Arena Mexico mask match, they both ended up with red masks from the amount of blood loss. Santo got on the camel clutch in the decidin fall, but Espanto would not submit. Ref Roberto Rangel stopped the match when Espanto passed out.
– Takemura talks about his return. He says he’s sticking around in Mexico a month, then returning in June for half a year, longer if he can find enough work. He wants to settle some old issues with Negro Casas and would like to team with Masada and Okumura to show Japan is better than Mexico.
– LA Park explains he has no issues with Dr. Wagner; he’s got issues with the people! What makes it more confusing is the people he means are the people who want him to turn rudo. LA Park says no one’s going to tell him which side to be on, and if the fans of CMLL are going to treat him like that, he’s going to be anti-CMLL.
– Random bio of Mil Mascaras. It claims his 1992 match with Canek was one of the best ever – could that possibly be true?
– Angel Blanco Jr. tries to clearify name issues. He’s one of two sons of the original Angel Blanco, but the first Angel Blanco Jr. was actually his brother-in-law. That one dropped the name after the brother-in-law divorced out of the family. The current Angel Blanco Jr. teamed with his brother as Hijo del Angle Blanco I & II, but when his brother retired due to leg injury, they went to the commission and signed over the complete rights to Angel Blanco Jr. He and Dr. Wagner Jr. share ownership of the Ola Blanca group name, so it stays in the family of those who created it. Angel Blanco Jr. also wants to state that no one in his family had problems with Solitario, another rumor.
– Bio of Rolando Vera.
– Rambo tells the story of his first match.
– Loco Max talks about how great it is to be in the Guerrero Pandilla. It’s great.
– A report on Meteorix’s injury. Nothing new

Lucha Times

Updated.

Saturday: Split feeds, late time on both coasts. Main event has Santo! It also has Canek, so that’s the defintion of a mixed bag. Robert liked the Women’s match best of all.

Sunday: Everyone turns on Pierroth! Inevitable.

GdR: No Mistico? That’s awful strange. Should be the CMLL debut of Princesa Blanca, but I dunno for sure.

I’ve noted which matches already aired on GdR on the CMLL Future list.

Brazo de Oro to retire

In this week’s Box Y Lucha, Brazo de Oro announced he will retire on October 5th of this year. It would be his 31st anniversary of wrestling, and he feels his matches ought to go to the young kids who work hard each day looking for a chance.

He’s not planning a public function and doesn’t want one; he’ll be having a small private party with family. Brazo de Oro, if CMLL and his workers give him the okay, to continue being the leader of the wrestler’s union.

(I’ll do a full Box Y Lucha recap tommorow)

03/29 LuchaWiki update

There’s a new wiki main page update. The featured profile works off this weekend’s WWE HOF inductees, obviously. Thanks to TakemuraMetal for adding some bios the last couple weeks. I’m going to work on cleaning up the unused pictures a bit this afternoon.

Looking for an easy way to contribute? Next time you see a luchador interview in a magazine or online, check back at the wiki and see if you’re reading details we don’t have there. If you’ve got something new, add it or edit it in. It’s not much, and it’d help build the info about more recent guys who don’t yet have profiles.

I’d advise everyone not to directly link to any picture on the wiki – save it to your computer and upload it to imageshack or something – because it may not be there in a couple weeks. (Dramatic foreshadowing.)

Any suggestions you haven’t made yet? Let me know!

RFC @ Lo Mejor de La Lucha libre says Juvi’s returning to AAA.

Guerreros del Ring has a big ol’ picture fo Black Warrior on the cover.

There’s a note in the latest Observer that AAA wants to get back on Galavision, in order to promote shows in Texas. The problem, as mentioned before, is that they’re airing three hour shows in Mexico, and it’s easier for Gala just to plug in a 2 hour CMLL tape than to edit AAA to fit the time slot.

Once Notias has a series of basic stories on luchadors at a (Monterrey?) show: women in wrestling, rudos vs tecnicos and Super Astro‘s diet

Baca, Yucatan had it’s first lucha show in ten years this past week. The report says the early matches bored, but the main event saved the show. They hope they can get the likes of Mistico and La Park someday.

There’s a big show panned for May 28th in Arena Monterrey. Main event is Santo, Mil Mascara, and Tinieblas Sr. versus Blue Demon Jr., Hector Garza, and Perro Jr. The semi-main has Mistico, Rayo, Park, and Canek (oddly tecnico) versus a GdI atomicos unit of Atlantis, Tarzan, Ultimo and Rey. Lots of names down the card, too.
