Disappointed by these single matches – both really short and felt that way. This match was longer than the previous week’s, but didn’t feel like a lucha title match.
It’s a lot easier to be sympathetic to Atlantis’ plight when you know he doesn’t get the mask in the end. Having now watched this, my three theories about this are
– fans always prefer the new tecnico over the stale tecnico
– even if the general populace knew didn’t know the plan was for Atlantis to win a mask match, they could feel where this was going and didn’t like it. They were pushing Atlantis hard and they weren’t doing Seccion Wagner spots. The Wagner/rudo fans knew the score.
– after the Elektro/Bronco mess, the dissident fans realized they could effectively boo a concept out of existence and wanted to be sure their voices were heard.
Skip this show.
I’m going to sorta go back on something I said earlier. We’ll see if I get distracted by Olympic events from hours ago.
