01/23 News: Sunday Arena Coliseo results, this week’s lineups

Voting is now open for the 2005 Tapatia awards: ballot, more information, discussion – the links are on the side bar as well, and there’s a discussion thread on DVDVR.

CMLL (SUN) 01/22 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Danger, Valiente b Artillero, Zayco
2) Kronos, Leono, Tigre Metálico b Apocalipsis, Ramstein, Super Comando
3) Satánico, Tigre Blanco, Virus b Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Loco Max
4) Black Warrior, La Máscara, Mr. Niebla b el Hijo del Pierroth, Máscara Año 2000, Pierroth
5) Atlantis, Olímpico, Último Guerrero DQ Heavy Metal, Mistico, Negro Casas

Mistico was about to win it, but Atlantis faked a foul and got away with it. Mistico wants a singles match, of course. Ovaciones was high on La Mascara and Virus. On Box y Lucha’s forums, there’s a detailed recap; they dug the first three matches over the matches we might actually see.

CMLL (WED) 01/18 Gimnasio Ricardo Flores Magon de Oaxaca Results [KrisZ]
1) Amapola, La Nazi b India Sioux, Marcela
2) Mini Violencia, Pierrothito DQ Shockercito, Último Dragoncito
3) La Máscara, Máximo b Hijo del Canek, Sangre Azteca
4) Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000 DQ el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza

There’s a WWE in Monterrey recap on WO.com. Top three matches were shuffled, but basically the same show as the other two, including Santo (and Funaki!) joining in Eddie tribute after Rey’s match.

indy (SUN) 01/22 Arena Solidaridad Results [rfc]
1) Venum b Norteno Jr. and Mercurio and Explosivo (Solidaridad) and Aguila del Norte and Eclipse and Pegasso (Solidaridad) and Furia and El Nazi and Galactar
2) Poly Star, Princesa Sujei, Simply Lusicious b Aurora, Chacala, Tsunami and Dark Angel, Diana La Cazadora, Justiciera
3) Caifane I, Caifane II, Caifane II b Comando I, Comando II, Comando III
4) Gato Volador, Silver Star, Venum DQ Coco Viper, Maniaco, Memo Valles
5) Diluvio Nergo I, LA Park b Blue Panther, Super Parka

indy (SUN) 01/22 Gimnasio Nuevo Leon Results [rfc]
1) Mole Jr., Twister b Estruendo I, Estruendo II
2) Angel Dorado Jr., Tacua b Rey Hechicero, Super Vaquero

4) Brillante Jr., Potro Jr., Silver Man b Charles Lucero, Karonte, La Bestia
5) Brazo de Plata, Rey Azteca, Stuka Jr. b Hector Garza, Misterioso II, Tigre Universitario

There was a note that the Nuevo Leon had a half house, due to the WWE show. I’m sure the same thing happened in Arena Solidaridad.

indy (SUN) 01/22 Coliseo Coacalco Lineup [lli]
1) El Codigo, El Cerebro, Caudillo b As de Oro, Aguila Guerrera, Veneno
2) Medico I, Medico II, Medico II b Wizard, Turbo, Arma X
3) Black Terry, Black Jaguar, Rudy Garudno b Rey de Corazoens, Chris, Justiciero Jr.
4) Mistico & El Magnifico b Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis

Octagon does a chat with Box Y Lucha tommorow at 2pm, which usually means 3pm CST. As usual, I have no questions to ask him.

La Gaceta, an Argentina newspaper, has a couple of stories about the old Titanes en el Ring show. They link to a Lucha Libre Argentina website, which looks nice, but also as if it hasn’t been updated since 2004.

There’s a column on DiariodelIstmo.com on critizing the local Box y Lucha Libre comission for the lack of support for shows in Minatitlan, Veracruz. According the author, despite running (or comission-ing) less than 10 shows in 2005, they found a way for the local government to give them money for a brand new building.

The Jack Black/Nacho Libre story from this weekend’s been reprinted and exceperted in other papers the last couple of days. That’s how newspapers work.

This week’s lineups are below. I’ve almost got the This Week/Today links working (you can see them in the events section, which I only now realize isn’t really linked anywhere good), but they don’t self-generate yet. Should be good tommorow.

01/22 News: AAA Toluca results, WWE Guadalajara

AAA (THU) 01/19 Gimnasio Agustin Millan, Toluca, EdM Results [ova]
1) Mascarita Sagrada, Prince b Jerrito Estrada, Mini Chessman
2) Nygma, Picudo, Silver Cat b Alan, Billy Boy, Decnnis
Picudo blew fire in Billy Boy’s face for the wins
3) Psicosis b Histeria [MEX MW, SF]
They went through 4 different referees in this match, with everyone taking bumps till Pepe Casas finally counted the pin. Psicosis goes on to meet Zumbido for the title.
4) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz b Antifaz del Norte, Corazón de Barrio, Hator
Chessman and Charly ran to help the Black Family.
5) Intocable, La Parka Jr., Pimpinela Escarlata b Casandro, Charly Manson, Chessman
Parka wore a jersey given to him by the Toluca futbol team.
6) Cibernetico b Abismo Negro [cage]
Chairs, blood and Tombstones all appeared in this match. Cibernetico’s cult members ran in to help him, Parka ran in to help Abismo, Intocable ran in wearing a Cibernetico Sect t-shirt, but it was all a swerve because he Abismo, but Abismo still lost anyway.

Before the show, they had a moment of silence for Texano and Dr. O’Borman. Same thing at the Arena Mexico show Friday night.

WWE (FRI) Guadalajara Results [box y lucha foro]
1) Kid Kash b Jamie Noble & Funaki [CW]
2) The Dicks b Paul London & Brian Kendrick
Animal did the same “attack one team to help them win, then attack them after the match” deal here.
3) Boogeyman b Orlando Jordan
4) Lashley b Sylvan
5) MNM b Mexicools [WWE Tag]
6) Chris Benoit b JBL
Benoit shouted Viva La Raza post match and left to Eddie’s music.
7) Rey Mysterio Jr. & Kurt Angle b Mark Henry & Booker T
8) Undertaker b Randy Orton

There’s a story on the show here. Haven’t seen Monterrey results, but I assume the same thing.

There’s an interview with Rey on WWE.com about the show in Mexico City. Attendance is listed as 19726. They kinda lose me in the first answer when Rey talks about being back in the ring in DF for the first time in 13 years.

The LA Times has a story on Nacho Libre, and makes it sound promising. By the time I read five more months of positive fluff pieces about this movie, I’m going to actually be pumped to see it. (And then, possibly, devastated?)

This week’s Arena Mexico main event will be Perro Aguayo Jr. vs Atlantis in a non-title singles match. (That’s the sort of match I was looking for in a return match.)

01/21 News: Arena Mexico Results, TV notes

CMLL (FRI) 01/20 Arena Mexico Results
1) Bam Bam, Mini Olímpico b Mini Damian 666, Mini Halloween
2) Dark Angel, India Sioux, Sahori b Amapola, Hiroka, La Nazi
3) Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., LA Park b Máscara Año 2000, Pierroth, Universo 2000
4) Heavy Metal, Mistico, Negro Casas b Averno, Hombre Sin Nombre, Mephisto
5) Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Último Guerrero

Matches 3 and 4 got switched. Pierroth replaced Olimpico and took a stretcher ride. Mistico and Negro beat the tag champs in the deciding fall – might we be getting yet another tag challenge with Negro Casas? GdA was DQed in the first fall for excessive violence on Perro, and Perro low blowed Atlantis in the second fall to win in straight falls. Atlantis/Perro is the singles feud they’re pushing out of that.

CMLL (TUE) 01/17 Arena Coliseo de Guadalajara Results [CMLL]
1) Furia Nazi b Virgo
2) Frayle de la Muerte b Estrella de Jalisco I
3) Exterminador b Super Maquina
4) Angel Blanco Jr., Bestia Salvaje b Kronos, Leon Blanco
5) Cien Caras Jr., Mr. Texas, Olímpico b Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Sagrado
6) Brazo de Plata b Asesino Negro [hair]

CCJr. filled in for Rey.

IWRG (THU) 01/19 Arena Naucalpan Results [IWRG]
1) Kid Tiger b Black Stone
2) Paramedico, Rey Estruendo b Freesbe, Ultra Mega
3) Black Jaguar, Carta Brava, Fantasma de la Ópera b Marco Rivera, Panterita, Star Boy
4) Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro b Sagrado, Suicida, Virus
5) Cerebro Negro, Head Hunter I, Scorpio Jr., Veneno b el Hijo del Pierroth, Pierroth, Pierroth II, Pierroth Jr. [cage of death]

Cage of Death wasn’t usual rules. You didn’t escape, and people were eliminated when they were down for a ten count. Pictures aren’t working on the IWRG site yet, but sounds bloody.

There’s partial results for the show in Guadalajara: Mexicools didn’t win the tag titles, Benoit beat JBL, Rey beat Booker, and Undertaker beat Orton in a match the Mexican fans are finding to be too slow paced. Undertaker’s winning with a tombstone, which I guess should be expected, but also exemplifies the desire to stick to the WWE-style show regardless of the location.

Santo was at the show again, greeting Nicho before his match. I suspect hell be in Monterrey as well tonight.

Galavision aired the Leyenda de Azul show.

For the first time, Guerreros del Ring aired two matches from the (01/15) Arena Coliseo show:

el Hijo del Pierroth, Pierroth, Terrible b Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Satánico
Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Mistico b Averno, Mephisto, Tarzan Boy

2005 Match Counts

Okay, one more. This one counts number of matches in 2005 for everyone I have roster pages for. It’s far less accurate then the other list; even if I didn’t know I was missing some (I was typing up a bunch of IWRG cards today that I didn’t add), I’d still be missing some. Think of these numbers as “at least” totals. And it’s far biased towards CMLL guys because of gotten far more of their shows than anyone else. And I’m sure they’re inaccurate in other ways. Still…
