2005 Match Counts

Okay, one more. This one counts number of matches in 2005 for everyone I have roster pages for. It’s far less accurate then the other list; even if I didn’t know I was missing some (I was typing up a bunch of IWRG cards today that I didn’t add), I’d still be missing some. Think of these numbers as “at least” totals. And it’s far biased towards CMLL guys because of gotten far more of their shows than anyone else. And I’m sure they’re inaccurate in other ways. Still…

01/20: WWE in DF results, Arena Mex preview

2) Lashley b Orlando Jordan
3) Kid Kash b Jamie Noble and Funaki [CW]

Ovaciones results are missing some matches. Lucha Libre Indepdiente has pictures and video, and there’s more links below.

El Hijo Del Santo (with one of his children) was present at the show, and Ovaciones says he was attacked by JBL and Booker T before their match. After the match, he joined Rey and Benoit in the ring for a tribute to Eddie.

Ovaciones was down on the Undertaker/Orton match. Animal interfered in the opener.

Google News has tracked down these links for me:
* La Aficion filed three stories on the show. Before the show, they filed a pre-show story, which is where I got that great Teddy Long pic. It’s about the massive setup for a WWE show. Apparently Rey and MNM arrived a day early to do press, and a TV show named “Otro Roll” wanted them to face AAA wrestlers on it’s show. WWE didn’t like that idea. (Otro Roll actually also airs on Univision on Saturday nights. I may tape that and see if they WWE segment is included.) They also wrote a generic preview. After the show, they filed a show report. They mention the lucha commission was present at the show but didn’t get involved in any noticeable way. Everything was done like it’d be done on a US show, including the ring announcing. There’s a mention that they’d like to do Tijuana, next time thru.

* El Universal Online‘s article is pretty much the same preview.

* On Televisa (and Galavison)’s site, Rey talks about Sports Entertainment. Many of the quotes are repeated in a preview for tonight’s Guadalajara show in el Occidental

CMLL (FRI) 01/20 Arena Mexico Results
1) Mini Olimpico, Bam Bam vs Mini Halloween, Mini Damian 666
2) Dark Angel, Sahori, India Sioux vs Amapola, La Nazi, Hiroka
3) Mistico, Negro Casas, Heavy Metal vs Averno, Mephisto, Hombre Sin Nombre
4) LA Park, Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, Olimpico
5) Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy vs Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza, Damian 666, Mr. Aguila

The main event seems to be the direction they’re heading the next few months at least, but because of that, we’re likely to get variations of this same match for quite a while all over the CMLL shows; this match is special because it’s first and it’s everyone (except Olimpico), but it still seems lacking as a main event. The concept more seems to have a packed card; Negro’s not often working terceras.

I’d think that they didn’t do a huge match in would mean they weren’t concerned about WWE’s shows, but that they reversed themselves and stuck with this date seems to indicate otherwise.
