CMLL Guerreros del Ring - 12/04/05 (GdR #2)

the pre-open is Typical of when we actually seen the normal CMLL show (which desperately needs a subtitle - I'm calling it the Mothership if I can't think of anything) with previews of all the matches with match action. The open is nicely produced.

Interview: Mistico is on the screen for about ten seconds talking up this match. Notice he has a different mask for cutting promos.

Welcome To The Show Vignette: a

Match 1: Tarzan Boy (c), Mascara Año 2000, Olimpico vs Mistico (c), Hijo de Lizmark, Mr. Niebla
Arena Coliseo, 11/27/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:48
Approx Rating: Okay. 78ish
Match Notes: They give a graphic (same vein as the collage they're doing on the Mothership) before we see the entrances, and each wrestler gets his own entrance (though they might be slightly clipped.) Tarzan needs a cleaner haircut. Mascara has blond hair, which isn't quite making him look younger. Olimpico does many muscle poses, because he has the muscles to do it. Lizmark's dreadlocks are getting huge. Mr. Niebla is the same Mr. Niebla he was before. Everyone takes a moment to pose at a camera on the apron. Mascara gets to do the huddle dance with Olimpico and Tarzan - they at least thought to match the outfits.

First fall whistle. I think they're using a different hard camera. Or maybe I've been watching too much WWE lately, but the ring looks especially tiny. Niebla sneaks around and slaps Olimpico on the back of the head as the others are still getting out of the ring. Those two will start. Circle, Olimpico with a hammerlock, Niebla turns it, then drops to the mat. Olimpico pulls him in a double armbar, but Niebla escapes into a headscissors. Olimpico pushes him in a pin twice for near falls, then walks thru for something looking like the lest effective Boston crab ever. Niebla picks a leg to get free, and does a legdrop on the leg. Crooked figure, Niebla more working on the joint with an elbow than pressure. Olimpico gets free, arm bars are countered and reversed, Niebla manages an armdrag, and we have a standoff. Except Niebla's not just standing, he's doing his dance. Whatever. Olimpico with a single leg, working a legbar. Niebla gets free, by pulling Olimpico down in an armbar. Olimpico's tossed to the mat, but he kicks Niebla away from there. Circle. Lockup, armbar, test of strength. Niebla's winning for a moment, but Olimpico turn sit and bends him down. Niebla bends all the way down, then back up. Olimpico gets frustrated and tries a punch, but Niebla ducks and slaps him in the back of the head. Olimpico wants out, and we end up with Tarzan and Lizmark. Lockup, Tarzan with a waistlock, Lizmark uses back elbows and switches. Tarzan looks for an escape, and runs to the ropes, knocking Lizmark free. Tarzan turns and charges, Lizmark tries a big boot, Tarzan deflects it (or doesn't really sell it), spins around and drops Lizmark with a clothesline. There's the spinaroonie, a little early for that. Tarzan misses a clothesline, there's the superkick. Lizmark waits for Tarzan to get up, but Tarzan's not fool, he's rolling out. Mascara in to take his place, and Mistico's ready to take him out. Mascara yells at the crowd for chanting for Mistico, and then runs him over with a boot. See, that's what you get for cheering. Whip, Mistico flapjacked up and Mascara pushes him down. Stomps. Whip, flapjack, but this time Mistico reverses to an armdrag. Mascara gets up and charges, but Mistico leapfrogs him and armdrags him again. Mascara up and running again, and Mistico stops him fro running any more with a drop toe hold. Mascara lands on the ropes, so it's time for the 619. Springboard dropkick knocks Mascara out of the ring, and Mistico teases a dive, ends with a pose. Back to Niebla and Olimpico. Niebla dances, Olimpico clotheslines him. Chop. Right. Whip, Niebla slides thru, ducks under, and eventually lands the slap. Olimpico tires a hiptoss, but Niebla lands on his feet, dances, and gets a bottom rope springboard spinning headscissors. Mascara tries his luck, and slaps Niebla, but that won't stop the dance. Slap for Mascara. Whip, reversed, handspring elbow hits, because Mascara stands there like a goof. Tarzan tries to put an end to the madness with a chest slap. All the rudos have been mocking Niebla's hip swivel dance, and Tarzan does the worst job of it, also making it the best job of it, which the crowd laughs at (and I realize I don't hear the crowd laugh all that much - better mics?) Tarzan ends up being backdropped to the apron, so he forearms Niebla from there and does the dance again, only for Niebla to get in the slap to the back of the head. Mistico wastes no time - running corner plancha to the floor. Lizmark and Olimpico in, and Lizmark lands the spinning side slam. (6:27) Niebla gets Mascara with a better handspring elbow, and that's that. (6:31)  Replays.

Interview: Mr. Niebla says CMLL is the best, and so is Channel 52! What a remarkable coincidence.

We rejoin just as the second fall starts. Mistico and Olimpico will wrestle, as soon as Mistico gets done listening to the crowd. Old ladies are chanting for him - there's one now! Olimpico shows off his abs. He's got good bas, I'll give him that. Mistico slaps him for being rude. Mistico off the ropes, over, waved by with a handspring for fun, swinging 'rana connects. Mistico with a handspring dive tease, as Olimpico was hiding in the front row, hugging a fan. Mascara in, and waiting for someone to fight. it'll be Lizmark. They have a pose off. Mascara off the ropes, so Lizmark gets a chance to jump very high on leapfrogs. Armdrag by Lizmark gets beat by a Mascara clothesline, but Lizmark kips up to his feet anyway - and then HE does the Niebla dance. If Mistico does this, this match is officially awesome. Time for a Lizmark offense run. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, foot catch enziguri, long crowd shot (uh, that's still a clip.) Mascara is out of the ring when we return, and angry. Now taking the turn in the are Olimpico and Niebla. Olimpico wants a handshake, and when he doesn't get it, Tarzan comes in to help beat him down. Niebla's choked on the ropes, so Mascara can big boot him form there. Olimpico cleans out the tecnicos on the apron while the other two work over Niebla. Mistico gets ramped into a post in a not fun way. Triple boot for Niebla. Tecnicos need someone back in, and Niebla will try. He gets no offense. Rudos take forever figuring out what they're doing, and from his reactions, Tarzan still doesn't know. It ends up being a double boot, then a double press slam on Mistico. Elbow drops are added, and Tarzan finally gets in a move with a senton. Cover - no, they pull him up and throw him out. Huh. Lizmark comes into and the ref accidentally (? - I think it was Terror Chino, so maybe not so much) distracted him into getting jumped. Double backdrop, Tarzan legdrop. Double suplex, and stood up for Tarzan Boy's missile dropkick. Even though this is clearly supposed to eliminate Lizmark (rudos are all covering him, he's got to be pinned so they can pin Niebla and end the fall without Mistico taking the pin), Niebla comes in and breaks it up at maybe 2, though we can't see the ref and he may have just counted three anyway. (3:51) Mascara gives Niebla a release back suplex, which doesn't look fun. Tarzan adds a nice elbow drop, Olimpico slams Niebla, and Mascara Año adds a top rope splash. That's it. (4:18) Replays ignore the Niebla pin breakup, so we shall as well.

We come back right in time for the third fall, where Niebla is trying to start his own comeback and being stopped. He ends being dropkicked out. Lizmark tries next, but he's stopped quick. Rudos discuss what they want to do for quite a while, not a good sign. Yep, Lizmark ducks under a double clothesline, and, uh, just slides out of the ring. While seeming to make no sense, this actually a master plan by el Hijo de Lizmark, because Tarzan and Olimpico chase him, allowing Mistico to come in untouched from the other side of the ring and attack Mascara one on one! I didn't know Lizmark had it in him. Springboard dropkick for Mistico, and a superkick. The other four are fighting outside, and Mistico is taking Mascara way with kicks. Mascara goes out, so Mistico follows him, hitting another superkick in the process. Lots of crowd shots as they brawl, so I guess this is clipped. We end up with Mistico and Tarzan back in the ring, though they stall for a bit as the other four come back to their corners. Mistico with a corner whip, reversed, Mistico runs up the ropes and comes back with an armdrag. Off the ropes, swinging 'rana. Tarzan Boy rolls out, Mistico spots him and starts thinking, but gets ambushed by an Olimpico dropkick. Both Mascara and Olimpico are in, and they end up getting the better of Niebla and Lizmark until they're whipped into each other. Lizmark superkicks Olimpico out of the ring, and Niebla does a one legged dropkick for Mascara. STEREO TOPES! Mistico is back in the ring, and so is Tarzan - captain vs captain. Mistico off the ropes, and he immediately gets La Mistica - that's it. (2:59) Actually, now I'm confused on what's La Mistica again - they tried for the satellite armbar but it looked like someone couldn't get a grip, so they went to the ground for a fujiwara armbar instead. The two sides tease more fighting, but the battle is won, time for the replays. Break.

Interview: Mistico says the same thing Niebla just did, basically.

Match 2: Averno, Mephisto, Atlantis (c) vs Heavy Metal, Negro Casas (c), Blue Panther
Arena Mexico, 11/25/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:21
Approx Rating: Good; first time I've seen rudo Atlantis and he was fun. 82.
Other Match Notes: Of course, since this is current, there's changes in Arena Mexico scenery and I see the entrance videos for the first time (posing in front of a blue screen, basically). Metal has the IWRG Trios Title with him, which reminds me I need to update that. By Metal alone, we've almost seen an IWRG belt more often this year than CMLL belts. Atlantis is coming out to he GdI music, with his new full face mask, but his video is still happy tecnico Atlantis. Mephisto and Averno get their own entrances, which is beyond ridiculous even if they didn't have the same music. We're back to the normal announcers here and really normal video that CAN52 just happens to be using. I can't tell if it's my setup, or CAN52's, or maybe even something they've changed for everything, but everything seems a shade less bright than usual. Ke Monito has an Atlantis like face design on his head and is in the corner with the rudos, and I'm beyond confused on that.

Panther wants Atlantis from the word go, but Atlantis doesn't want that - he does make fun of Panther while he's standing safely behind Averno.  Rudos in no hurry to start this match. Averno and Metal do. Chain wrestling. They don't seem to work well together. Averno's got a weird mask with only one horn. We get to the standoff, but Metal wants more, and delivers a drop toe hold to take it to the mat. Averno is in control there for most of the time, but Metal rallies slightly back and we have another standoff. Another exchange? Why not. Zero trips, mostly, and this time, they'll tag. Negro and Mephisto. Oh, now I get it - Averno & Mephisto have a half/half mask thing going. More chain wrestling, Mephisto illegally using the hair to pull Negro down to the mat and get control, and Casas escaping on his own. Negro gets the zero tip on Mep, but skirts away backwards when Mep tires to do the same with him. Mep doesn't like that, but Negro laughs and so do I. Negro Casas is no one's fool. Atlantis and Panther, the crowd  is pumped, and so is Panther. Atlantis looks for cheers, and pretends he got them. Well, he's got that one down. These guys go off the ropes a little more, Panther getting a major blow with a powerslam, and dropkicking Atlantis out. The champs attack him before he can dive. Double corner whip, Metal backdrops his own partner to the apron, but takes a double dropkick to the knees (neat!) Negro protests, but Metal makes his own comeback, getting tossed into a dropkick. on Mep. Now Both Casas are in and whipping the champs into each other. Stereo dropkicks to the face! I think Mep takes the worse of it. Both put on submissions, and that's it. (6:12) Atlantis opts to hilariously run and dance to the stage rather than face Panther. He hops up the steps and poses too! Uh oh, rudo Atlantis might actually be fun. Panther confronts him, but Atlantis backs off.

Next Week: Rayo, Negro, Ultimo, Canek, Heavy Metal, Olimpico and more.

Second fall is due to start, but Atlantis is conducing a strategy session on the ramp. And then he's very busy talking to the camera. Okay, Averno and Heavy again. Heavy is far too stoked for the second fall. Maybe he's confused and thinks this is another tag team title match. Averno slaps him and Metal gets more excited till he kicks Averno. This leads to a better handspring elbow than Niebla did today by Metal. Mep tries to help, fails., gets kicked in the head. Metal gets the half crab on him, so Atlantis has to help break it up. He does that right, but the rest goes back - especially the tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by Metal. Metal gets in a big punch, and tags to Panther, but Atlantis rolls out before Panther can get him. There's a weird clip where we go from Averno getting the crowd riled up to Monito to Averno on the floor recovering. Mep and Negro are wrestling, having just entered. Mep is working Negro over with shoulders and kicks to the midsection. Negro catches one kick, but Mep chops his way free. Mep stops to celebrate and Negro is all over him with forms, kicks and punches. Negro DDT, with the weird lucha bent over sell. One two Averno back in and breaking it up. Averno's beating Negro down, and calls over his partner to help. Double whip, head down too soon, and Negro kicks both of them. He goes for a half crab, and that allows Atlantis to ambush them - and while they're at it, why not start a beatdown. The other two are disposed off, and Negro is double hipped again - this time, Atlantis back elbows him. Whip, double pump powerbomb,. He's brought up so Atlantis can dropkick him down. Metal in next, and he takes a triple pump powerbomb. One two three. (3:57) Panther in, and Atlantis takes great delight in beating him down. The champs get a corner clothesline on him, and Atlantis gets a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker before ripping Panther's mask. This gets Panther very angry, and he rallies back for a brief moment before the champs subdue him. Panther is whipped into Atlántida and Atlantis makes sure to hang on a little extra. (4:41) Atlantis rips the mask a little more as we look at replays. As we come out, we see the rudos tossing Monito down hard on Panther - who are they trying to hurt there? Both? Averno and Mephisto seemed to enjoy it.

Mephisto grabs Heavy Metal by the head, and uses him to chase away the ring girl. That seems rude. There's a clip here too, I think. None of these clips, except for the Averno one, are very apparent or meaningful. Rudos are beating down everyone. Metal gets hurt coming into the ring - did someone hit the rope? Watching it again, someone did, far too late, but Metal still sells it like a low blow. Rudos are focusing on Panther anyway, who's mask is very loose. It's falling apart, and Negro runs in just so Panther can roll out and have time to fix it. Metal is in too, but just being held. Nothing special on this third fall beatdown, just standard kicking and punching. Mep does add a middle rope senton. Negro gets booted out of the ring so they can focus on Metal, and Metal side steps a corner charge to turns it around. Tecnicos back in, Atlantis tries to escape, but Panther beats him down while checking on his own mask. DDT on the ramp! Negro completely whiffs on a running boot to Mephisto's head (Mep might have moved his head too soon - then again, he might have moved it at the right time if he wanted to live), and Negro looks like he hopes no one saw that - we all did, thanks to the camera angle. They set up and do a tamer standard version, before getting out of the ring so Atlantis and Panther can have it. The photographers must love this feud, because they're rushing around quite a bit to get a good position. Panther gets his mask ripping revenge, which is tough with Atlantis' new mask. Averno and Mep save Atlantis, but the Casas others neutralize them. Atlantis recovers and frees the champs, then goes back to Panther, but gets dropkicked out of the ring. Panther topes Atlantis to take them both out. Mep and Metal back in, Metal gets tossed up and comes down with a rana one two three. (3:52) Averno immediately dropkicks Metal, and gives him the Devil Wings, though we miss it looking elsewhere. One two Negro break it up. Negro shortly goes for La Majistral, and Mephisto, who never left the ring, breaks it up with a running boot. (One ref is out of the ring with Atlantis and Panther. The other ref recalled he should be checking on Metal a little too late, and had to see the interference, but pretended otherwise.) Averno gets La Majistral on Negro instead, one two three. (4:28) Even though Atlantis and Panther are now rolling around outside the ring and fighting, Negro was the captain, so this one is over.

Replays, and that's it.
