12/05 lineups

Lineup highlights:

– Mistico vs Ultimo Guerrero headlines in Puebla.
– Mexico main event is an atomico: Santo, Mistico, Negro Casas, Blue Panther vs Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis, Averno, Mephisto. They’re pushing Panther vs Atlantis strong; maybe a NWA LH title match coming up, since I don’t think a mask match would. Also, Kenzo Suzuki returns.
– AAA has it’s end of year Guerrera de Titans show – and two other spot shows the same day.
– Konnan’s in to Mexico to work a Friday show, but is as of yet not listed as part of the Saturday show.
– Groon is back, but only for one indy show. Mascara Magica wrestles the same amount.
– The Mucha Lucha trio is working the opener of Martha Villalobos’ weekly show.

IWRG (THU) 12/01 Arena Naucalpan Results [ova]
1) Kid Tiger b Zaiyer
2) Ultra Mega, Freesbee b Paramedico, Black Jaguar
3) Matrix, Avisman, Suicida b Tomota, Cyborg, Andy Barrow

5) Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, Pierroth b Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Damian 666, Halloween

Ovaciones says that’s the four defense of the belts by Veneno’s trio. I still think the Payasos have those belts, and while I have a Corp trio holding the IWRG IC Trios, it’s a Black Tiger, Pantera, Pentagon Black trio. So I’m just confused.

IWRG (SUN) 12/04 Arena Naucalpan Lineup [ova]
1) Foreastero vs Freezby
2) Great Cuchillo & Kid Tiger vs Supercolt & Black Jaguar
3) Suicida, Metro, Kung Fu Jr. vs Pirata Morgan Jr., Nemesis, Kaleth
4) Veneno, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Bestia Salvaje vs Cyborg, Nitro, Masada, Andy Barrow

1) Muerte I & Muerte II vs Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II
2) Negro Casas, Felino, Fantastik vs Corasrio, Terrible, REy Bucanero

There’s another interview with Shocker (or, more likely, more from the same one) where he says Sangre Chicana started the fight and he’ll finish it, and setting up a rivalary with Cibernetico’s yet to be revealed group.

TV Notes

Late Night Lucha was episode #186, which had aired on Vuelta two weeks ago, on Saturday on 09/04 and was taped on 04/01:
Ultimo /Rey Bucanero/Tarzan Boy vs Shocker/Black Warrior/Mistico
Universo/Mascara 2000/Apolo Dantes vs Perro Jr./Canek/Pierroth
Heavy Metal/Mr. Niebla/Felino vs Damian/Halloween/Black Tiger
Atlantis & Blue Panther vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL Tag]

LdV was 189, as noted in Lucha Times.

Gurerreros del Ring (soon to be abrevated to GdR by me) is airing as I type this; here’s what they announced for the show:
11/27 Coliseo: Mistico, Hijo de Lizmark vs Tarzan Boy, Mascara Ano 2000
11/25 Mexico: Averno, Mephisto, Atlantis vs Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Blue Panther
At least no Pierroths vs Caneks. I am taping it this time, lucky me.

CMLL (FRI) 12/02 Arena Mexico Results [ova]
1) Texano Jr., Virus, Stuka b Arkangel, Loco Max, Hooligan
2) Dark Angel, Marcela, Diana la Cazadora b Amapola, Medusa, Princesa Sujei
3) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Olimpico b Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Blue Panther
More Atlantis/Panther feuding.
4) Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Mistico b el Hijo de Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza, Tarzan Boy
Tarzan didn’t get along with his partners, and they lost in two straight falls.
5) Universo 2000 b Halloween [hair]
Mascara Ano 2000 and Damian both interfered and got thrown out. Perro did not actively interfere, but did distact with his appearance. Halloween got a near fall on his own variant of the Black Hammer, and then Universo got it for the win. Ovaciones says Halloween got shaved before being strechered out, which is more consistent with what they’ve done in the past.

In their first match of the tour, Sangre Azteca & Safari defeated Jado & Gedo in 10:48; Sangre pinned Gedo. (Puroresufan.com)

12/02 Hair Match Result

b

Universo beat Halloween with the Black Hammer in tonight’s Arena Mexico main event. (Insert mock surprise comment here.) Of note, Halloween did not actually get his head shaved, as he was stretchered out and taken away in an ambulance after recieving the Black Hammer. You’d think they at least deliver on the stip. (Unless he’s really hurt or something.)

Why I stopped listening to Johnny Cash to find this out tonight, I have no idea.

12/02 news

VS

Tonight’s the big Arena Mexico show. Ovaciones has Universo’s take (it’s going to be a brawl, and it’s likely to have outside interference.)

CMLL (FRI) 12/02 Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Texano Jr., Virus, Stuka vs Arkangel, Loco Max, Hooligan
What To Expect: Just something to get the crowd going and maybe spotlight the tecnicos. It’s a silver lining to a very dark cloud that Texano Jr. has become a bigger star of late, so if anyone gets anything out of this, it’ll be him.
2) Dark Angel, Marcela, Diana la Cazadora vs Amapola, Medusa, Princesa Sujei
What to Expect: Tecnica win, and a strong showing by then – I believe they’d push this trio as big deal if there were any other ruda trios they could face.
3) Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Blue Panther vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Olimpico
What to Expect: Blue Panther and Atlantis violence and mask ripping, week 2 in a long stretch to come. Rudos probably take this one.
4) Mistico, Dr. Wagner Jr., Dos Caras Jr. vs Hijo de Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza, Tarzan Boy
What To Expect: Stright up tecnico win if they’re not doing another program before the end of the year; if Perro beats Mistico, something’s up.
5) Universo 2000 vs Halloween [hair]
What To Expect: Lots of runs and gimmicks to get the match over. No way Universo is losing this, but Damian will cause a big nearfall. Maybe a black hammer to finish it off. Perro Jr. and Universo will make vague hair match challenges.

CMLL (SUN) 11/27 Arena Coliseo de Guadalajara Results [cmll]
1) Nube Roja b Flama
2) Bam Bam & Shockercito b Mini Halloween & Mini Damian
3) Neutron, Chris Stone DQ Malefico, Magnum
Danger ran and attacked Chris Stone when he went for a dive. How odd.
4) La Mascara, Felino, Safari, Brazo de Oro b Averno, Mephisto, Emilio Charles Jr., Okumura
5) Rayo de Jalisco & Rayman b Atlantis & Dos Caras Jr.

Box Y Lucha #2742 is up. A bit later in the week than usual, but still good
– Poster is Brazo de Plata in his camo gear.
– A story about the long list of people who came for the Texano benefit. There’s also a brief bio of Texano.
– Shocker explains why he turned rudo: uh, he felt like it. More intersting to people to fight that way, it sounds like. Shocker says Zumbido is next to (re)join Guapo U.
– Fuerza Guerrera talks about the people who trained him
– Starman talks about his trip to Japan. He’s all positive, talking about how he learned a lot and it was his best trip there.
– Tinieblas Sr. and Mil Mascaras old man it up with a “wrestlers aren’t as good as they used to be” interview. Tinieblas says he’s not taking off his mask after his retirement match – he’s leaving with his identity intact. In talking about Mil with fans, the author points out that he signs for free, unlike Groon (specifically mentioned). Mil says he was offered a spot in the Mexico House of Representatives, but turned it down because he didn’t agree with the political party. I bet Mil would’ve had no problem wearing his mask.
– Rambo talks about wrestlers he enjoyed growing up: Ray Mendoza, Tony Reyna, el Solitario, and Rayo de Jalisco Sr. are among those mentioned.
– AAA Central American tour info.
– Rey Bucanero talks about his start in wrestling. His first match was at 15, having come to a show with Pirata Morgan and finding out they were one short. It says here that’s he’s a cousin of India Sioux, which I didn’t know.

New/Updated roster pictures: Atlantis, Angel Blanco Jr., Apocalipsis, Universo, Canek Jr., Crazy Boy, Mephisto.

12/01 news

CMLL (TUE) 11/29 Arena Aficion Results [ova]
1) Piloto Suicida, Miner’s vs Blade, Despiadado
2) Claudio Castagnoli, Aspid b Mike Quackenbush, Skayde
3) Sangre Azteca Dr. X, Nitro b Tony Rivera, Arana Cibernetica
4) Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy b Dr. Wagner, Negro Casas, Texano Jr.

Here’s the Ovaciones description of that second match, in Spanish

Antes: Mike Quankenbuch y Claudio Castaña, norteamericanos que cayeron bien entre la afición. El primero luchó al lado de Skyde en el bando científico, donde salió con su compatriota que estuvo aliado del Aspid.

So you’re saying, I don’t know Spanish, but surely it makes more sense in English.

Before: Mike Quankenbuch and Brown Claudius, North Americans who fell well between the liking. First it fought next to Skyde in the scientific side, where it left with his compatriot who was allied of the Aspid.

See! You’re wrong! Claudio needs a better Mexican press agent if they think he’s from North America.

According to Ovaciones, today is the 45th anniversary of lucha libre in Estado de Mexico. Adolfo Moreno, founder of IWRG, is credited with the first show in the terroritory. IWRG itself started 43 years ago at Arena Algusto, where Anibal, Villano II, Negro Navarro, Los Hermanos Muerte, Rasputin, Dos Caras, Mr. Niebla, Mascara Sagrada, Ocatgon, Hata, Naoki, Hectatombe and many others wrestled. Arena Algusto is long gone now, replaced by Arena Naucalpan, which celebrates it’s 28th anniversary on 12/22. (That’s why we have two IWRG anniversaries this month – I get it now!)

IWRG (THU) 12/01 Arena Naucalpan Lineup
1) Zaiyer vs Antaris
2) Freesbee, Aquiles vs Paramedico, Black Jaguar
3) Suicida, Avisman, Matrix vs Cyborg, Xibalba, Andy Barrow
4) Veneno, Dr. Cerebro, Cerebro Negro vs Masada, Mephisto, Nitro [EdM Trios]
5) Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Damian 666, Halloween vs Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, Pierroth

Yes, the IWRG anniversary show is a direct build to the End Of Year main event. Speaking of, “Less than 50%” of tickets (which could theoritically mean “12”) have been sold for tommorow’s Arena Mexico already.

CMLL (THU) 12/01 Arena Neza Lineup [ova]
1) Maximo, Valiente vs Explosivo, ???
2) Marcela, India Sioux, Sahori vs Amapola, Medusa, Hiroka
3) Dr. Wagner, Heavy Metal, La Mascara vs Atlantis, Averno, Black Tiger

Halcon.net is apparently doing daily updates. Neat.

CMLL (MON) 11/28 Domo De La Feria, Leon, Guanajuato Results [halcon]
1) Brazo de Plata, Satanico, Lizmark Sr. b Villano III, Emilio Charles Jr., Negro Navarro
2) Dos Caras Jr., Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Mascara Sagrada DQ Blue Demon Jr., Pierroth, Mascara Ano 2000

BAJA STAR (FRI) 12/02 Tijuana Auditorio Municipal Lineup [halcon]
3) Extassis, Star Boy, Thunder Mask vs Pandillero II, Enfermero Jr., Shamu
4) TJ Boy, Principe Arandu, Mortiz vs Joe Lider, Crazy Boy, Depredador
5) Hijo del Santo, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Brazo de Plata vs Ultimo Guerrero, el Hijo del Diablo, Cien Caras Jr.

4) Laredo Kid, Hombre Sin Miedo, Principe Diamante vs Rio Bravo, Tito Santana, Oscuridad
5) Triple A, Incognito, Pancho Tequila vs Picudo, Silver Cat, Espiritu
6) La Parka, Sangre Chicana, Electroshock vs Hator, Sergio Romo, Corazon de Barrio

AAA (SUN) 12/04 Arena Solidaridad Lineup [halcon]
1) Morvius & Galactar vs Black Soul & Titanik
2) Aurora & Silver Star vs Dark Angel & Memo Valles
3) Texas Men, Gato Volador, Corazon Adicto vs Al Barone, Venum, Koko Viper
4) Estrella Dorado Jr. vs Monje Negro Jr.
5) Super Parka, Caifanes I, Caifanes II vs Indomito, Diluvios Negro I, Diluvio Negro II

Halcon also reprints an interview with Jack Black about Nacho Libre. They give away what sounds like the climax of the movie, but you probably won’t be too surprised. They refer to it as “inspired” by Fray Tormenta’s story and Jack says he’s never met Tormenta, so don’t expect much more similiarities than “priest wrestles under mask to get money for orphanage.” The same writer from School of Rock, which was pretty good, did this movie.

In the magazine Halcon.net #47 itself.
– recap of the Eddie Guerrero tribute RAW. At the end of the magazine, they recap the SD! tribute show.
– Interview with Blue Panther. The article says he was born on 09/18/80, and I have to say, he’s looking old for a 25 year old. (Typo – it should be 1960.) Panther’s won a lot of titles and masks, but states his greatest trophy is waking up each morning. When asked what’s the secret to being a really good wrestler, Panther says “DISCIPLINE, in captial letters.” Blue Panther doesn’t go on the internet, which seems right.
– next part of O’Campo’s Eddie Guerrero bio. This is worth reading in it’s entireity. Eddie got a mask because they were putting all of the unmasked wrestlers under masks at the time (to make it harder for them to jump?), and his unhappiness with it led him to jumping to AAA (so that didn’t work.) Eddie Guerrero debut in New Japan was helping Pegasus Kid beat up Liger after Liger retained the IWGP Jr. Title over him, and that’s how Eddie and Benoit met.

Talking about AAA, O’Campo says, Gringos Locos domination over tecnicos was the forebearer for WCW’s nWo. That’d be possible if those in WCW were actually watching AAA – O’Campo cites the WCW co-promoted When World’s Collide PPV as proof they were, and Meltzer has always cited only Spicoli being signed from that PPV as proof they weren’t. O’Campo tries to make the case that American wrestling was strictly big men fighting here, and Santo/Octagon vs Barr/Eddie match changed everything, which would be nice if it was true. ECW is next time.
– More of an inteview with Damian. He does not include Blue Demon as a member of Perros del Mal, so I guess I shouldn’t. His neck is doing better. He doesn’t feel AAA did enough with Nicho when he was there foor the last stint. Damian likes the internet, except for the people who spread untrue rumors.
– Q&A with Jeque. He describes his style as “rudo-tecnico.” He claims to have won 5 masks, 3 championships, and 3 hairs. Name one! He lists his religion as Catholic, which leaves me even more confused.
– Poster is Sagrado
– Column about a local fan who passed away.
– Brief bio on Bam Bam. He’s just barely 20 years old, the son of Popitekus Jr. He got his name from the Flintstones.
– Column/bio of Fishman.
