12/31 news

Sorry for the late/briefness. Things have come up for me a lot today, quite literally.

GALA aired the scheduled CMLL episode today:

Hooligan/Loco/Arkangel vs Alan/Tony/Marvin [coliseo]
Metro/Satanico/Felino vs Averno/Mephisto/Sangre
Groon/Park/Lizmark vs Ultimo/Rey/Olimpico
Metal/Negro/Universo/Magica/Perro/
Garza/Halloween/Damian/Mistico [cage of death]

I haven’t seen my tape yet, but I hear GdR did not air. I think it was a combincation of inconsistent listings and other progrmming commitements for the new year. Or just being lazy, who can say.

CMLL (FRI) 12/30 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Mini Olimpico, Bracito de Oro b Mini Halloween, Mini Damian 666
2) Tony Rivera, Leono, Starman b Super Comando, Artillero, Caligula
3) Amapola, La Nazi, Hiroka b Marcela, India Sioux, Sahori
4) Mr. Niebla, Brazo de Plata, Lizmark b Averno, Terrible, Hijo de Pierroth
5) Rayo de Jalisco, Dr. Wagner Jr., Dos Caras Sr. b Universo 2000, Pierroth, Mascara Ano 2000

Ovaciones does quite a few Year In Review articles today:

CMLL’s year:
Spotlight: Mistico shone the greatest, winning the NWA Middleweight Title on the first night of the year, befriending futbol players, and main eventing tons of arenas with big singles wins and great partners.
Scare: Olimpico’s tope gone very wrong.
Surprise: Lots of them, but Perro Aguayo Senior coming back for one more last match ever.
New Faces: Canek Jr. and Texano Jr. (supposedly much better after the NJPW tour – I guess we’ll find out next April.)
Style Changes: Wagner and Atlantis flipping sides – and not doing the mask match.
Events: Universo 2000 vs Hector as the main event of the anniversary show, and Atlantis beating Santo for the Leyenda de Plata
Ladies: Dark Angel, Diana, and Marcela were very popular.
End Of Year: Averno & Mephisto retaining the tag titles, and Mistico beating Atlantis last weekend.

AAA
Spotlight: International tours – to Japan and Central America as a tour, with Abismo Negro and Oriental doing their own tours of Japan.
Returns: Vampiro, Konnan, Nicho, and Fuerza Guerrero
Shocker and his Guapo U: off to a good start, with a win over Sangre Chicana. Opposition groups may be forming.
Departures: Heavy Metal, Mr. Aguila, Electo Shock (and back again), and Gronda.
Major Events:
03/11 Rey de Reyes: Mini Psicosis loses his mask to Octagoncito
05/15 Triplemania XIII: nothing much, apparently.

Tonight, CMLL continues “I Can’t Remember The Card” season:

CMLL (FRI) 12/30 Arena Coliseo Lineup
1) Mini Olimpico, Bracito de Oro vs Mini Halloween, Mini Damian 666

I’ll have at least a TV rounup tommorow.

Lucha Times

Sorry for the lateness. I’ve got about six weeks of work left to do this year, and it’s not quite fitting.

Saturday: Mistico puts his mask on the line (spoiler: Mistico does not lose his mask!) Expect edits. Also, celebrate the holiday season with even more Groon. Good show to scan thru.

Sunday: Maybe Perro Aguayo vs Mistico. Maybe AAA. This could be a brutal twist of fate for someone who has no life on New Year’s Day. (I’m good, thanks for asking.)

GdR: Okay, the Yahoo listings say it’s not on, pre-empted all weekend by a tennis tournament. (I miss futbol.) However, listings on CAN52MX say it’ll air, at least on Saturday. I’d go check my Comcast listings, but I like this episode of Futurama. Let me wait till the break.

Comcast says “Guerreros del Ring LLL” will air on Saturday, so I’m throwing in a tape. If there’s an episode, I’m betting it’ll include the Atlantis/Mistico match from this past week.

Halcon #51 is up. Inside.
– WWE Armagedon recap
– Interview with Hooligan. Mark your calendars: Hooligan says said he’s wrestled for 16 years (under 4 names), and plans on wrestling 20 years more. You have till 2026 to see him! He’s a rudo because he thought Pirata Morgan and Jerry Estrada were great rudos and he wanted to be like them.
– Q&A with Virus. His pick for his best match is one versus the Havana Brothers – he also got the most money off fighting them (or him; I think he might mean the title match.) Virus is not superstitious, because that would be bad luck.
– Te Das column predicts the event of 2006. He sees Atlantis losing his mask! Better get the crystal ball fixed.
– Interview with Danger. He was trained about LA Park and el Salcedo. He doesn’t really say much here.
– Poster is Terrible and his t-shirt.
– Quick bios of Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II. Rayo I’s finisher is “suplex”
– Adiccion Luchistica award winners:
Tecnico: Dr. Wagner Jr.
Rudo: Terrible (must be the shirt)
Pair: Rey & Ultimo
Group: Perros del Mal
Arena: Arena Mexico
New Star: Mistico
Female: Marcela
Promotion: CMLL
Magazine: Guerrero del Ring

12/28 news

Yea, so everything updated like 15 minutes after I gave up on updating for the day. NICE.

I’m horribly busy (still true) and not done yet (well, no), but I see WO.com has this reported as truth right now and it’s NOT.

Ovaciones has an April Fools joke article, which nearly killed me until I read it thru and realized what was up. If you read anyone saying today:

– AAA is dead
– Cibernetico is jumping to CMLL, and many are coming with
– the big influx will cause CMLL to run Arena Mexico shows on Sunday
– the big influx will also cause the UWA to restart, including taking Arena Neza and Arena Queretaro
– IWRG, looking for a way to expand, is going to PPV
– WWE’s canceled their events for 01/2006 in Mexico

then they missed the last sentence where they revealed it all was a joke. I only realized it when they got to the WWE line, because I surely would’ve heard about it elsewhere. TO REPEAT: Nothing wacky is happening. The funk alarm has not been sounded.

CMLL (SUN) 12/25 Arena Coliseo Results [cmll]
1) Sensei, Molotov b Super Comando, Artillero
2) Bam Bam, Último Dragoncito, Bracito de Oro b Mini Damian 666, Mini Halloween, Mini Violencia
3) Felino, Volador, Brazo de Oro b Canek Jr., Mr. México, Nitro
4) Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Brazo de Plata b Universo 2000, Máscara Año 2000, Olímpico
5) Mistico b Atlantis

In the main event, Tiger Hispano got kicked in the head when Atlantis put Mistico in the Atlantida. Enter KeMonito, and one low blow to Atlantis later, Mistico’s picked up the win. Don’t cross the blue monkey.

CMLL (TUE) 12/27 Arena Coliseo Results [ova]
1) Fire, Sombrita b Shockercito, Mini Fantasy
2) Trueno, Dagner, Leono b Ramstein, Flecha, Zayko
3) Tony Rivera, Pantera, Crazy Boy b Arkangel, Loco Max, Apocalipsis
4) Pierroth, Hijo de Pierroth, Okumura b Lizmark, Felino, Volador
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Casas, Heavy Metal b Universo 2000, Rey Bucanero, Olimpico

Universo tried a Black Hammer on Dr. Wagner – Wagner (thankfully! that looks awful) escaped and rolled him up for the win. Wagner wants a shot at Univesro’s Heavyweight title, Universo wants a shot at Wagner’s title, and they’ll like have a singles match with neither belt on the line.

indy (SUN) 12/25 Arena Coliseo de Coacalco Results [box y lucha]

2) As de Oros, Ave Nocturna, Storm b Alarido Nocturno, Rambo Jr., Benny Black

CMLL (MON) 12/26 Arena Puebla Results [box y lucha, via KrisZ]

2) Tiger Rojo, Centella De Oro, ? DQ Siki Osama, Bobby Jack, Cerebro Negro
3) Mini Olimpico, the Tiger, Ultimo Dragoncito b Mini Damian, Mini Halloween, Toro Bill
4) Black Warrior, Brazo de Plata, Dos Caras Jr. b Scorpio Jr., Pierroth, el Hijo del Pierroth
5) Negro Navarro, ltimo Dragn, Mistico b Hctor Garza, Averno, Mephisto

The guy who posts the Puebla results on Box Y Lucha – hugo999 – is very kind for doing so, but I always have a hard time figuring them out. It’s at least partly the translation, but inevitably I read thru and try to figure out the finishes for fifteen minutes, then happen upon KrisZ’s results and find, as I did today, that he has winners and losers different than me in four matches. (I got the main event!) It’s at that point I throw up my hands and remember the golden rule: KrisZ > me.

CMLL (SUN) 12/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results [cmll]
1) Milenio b Ray Romero
2) Rey Trueno, Mr. Trueno b Metro, Idolo
3) Neutrón b Guerrero Samurai and Infierno and Rayman and Emilio Charles Jr. and Toxico and Sagrado and Bestia Salvaje and Cesar Dantes and Joe Lider [Occidente LH, ciber]
4) Leon Blanco, Mr. Niebla, Dos Caras Jr. b Evola, Terrible, Cien Caras Jr.

Order of elimination in the title match was Joe Lider, Bestia Salvaje, Guerrero Samurai, Rayman, Malefico (DQ for low blowing Dantes), Cesar Dantes (pinned by Sagrado directly after the low blow), and Toxico (reverse tope)

Evola replaced Mr. Aguila, who missed a couple of appearances this weekend. No idea.

CMLL (TUE) 12/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results [cmll]
1) Furia Nazi b Virgo [10min]
2) Golden b Fraile de la Muerte [10min]
3) Idolo b Super Maquina [15min]
4) Mr. Niebla, Rayman b Neutron, Sagrado and Mr. Aguila, Toxico and Emilio Charles Jr., Bestia Salvaje
5) Lider L Ringo Mendoza and Malefico and Asesino Negro [hair]

Lider is now much balder, as you can see:

Box & Lucha #2476 is up. Among the usual features:
– La Parka II demands a mask on the cover
– Mistico, as Luchado del Ano, and with women is your poster.
– Pierrothito talks about his big victories in WWE! He been flown in five times and sure hasn’t been on TV that many times, just so we know there’s no plan here. Pierrothito says he’s expecting to hear back from WWE in mid Janurary if they’re going to keep using him, or if he’ll just go back to working Mexico. (I would guess Porky is in the same situation, except he’s already working Mexico.)

Apparently, the AAA workers stopped by the Box Y Lucha office in mass:

– La Parka explains he wants a mask, but doesn’t know which one. He’s alredy taken Cibernetico’s, and while he plans on destroying him more, no more masks there. He was thinking Abismo Negro, but now Abismo’s a pal. So, you know, if someone wants to suggest themselves, that’d be great.
– Meanwhile, Octagon knows who’s mask he wants – Fuerza Guerrera. We’re no closer to it happenign than we were six months ago, but Octagon really wants it to happen in ’06. His goal is to become a Santo like legend. Good luck on that.
– Zorro recaps his 2006 (Japan, two titles, Central America) and is happy with it.
– Monsther claims he’s a complete fighter. That must mean something other than what I think it means. He suggests a mask match with Parka or Alebrije next year. Everybody wanting matches that aren’t actually going to happen.
– Antifaz is of course not as happy with 2005 as others, because he lost his mother this past year. He hopes to make her proud with his perfomance in AAA and indies.

12/27 news

like Pantera, I’m standing on my head, waiting for something to happen.

indy (SUN) 12/25 Arena Coliseo de Monterrey Results [lomejordeluchalibre]
1) Payaso I, Payaso II b Panterita del Ring, Titanium
2) Chuy Escobedo Jr., Lobo Negro b Crazy Demon, Rey Venum
3) Anibal el Vampiro, Ares, Medico b Vagabundo, Iron, Angel del Amor
4) Konan Plus, Incógnito, Casanova b Mongol Chino, Antifaz del Norte, Sergio Romo
5) Pimpinela Escarlata, Sangre Chicana, Zorro b Cassandro, Hator, Zumbido

As of when I write this, CMLL hasn’t updated, Box Y Lucha hasn’t updated, and Ovaciones hasn’t posted any lucha articles. If I was a smarter man, I’d have a fill-in here – but I don’t.
