Ovaciones today covered “next Friday”‘s card. Which, oddly enough, is not next Friday’s card.
CMLL (FRI) 11/25 Arena Mexico Lineup [ova]
1) Leono & Valiente vs Super Comando & Artillero
2) Volador Jr., Virus, Sagrado vs Sangre Azteca, Hombre Sin Nombre, Misterioso II
3) Mr. Niebla, La Mascara, Black Warrior vs Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Olimpico
4) Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, Pierroth vs Hector Garza, Perro Aguayo Jr., Halloween
5) Heavy Metal, Blue Panther, Negro Casas vs Averno, Mephisto, Atlantis
6) Ultimo Guerrero vs el Hijo del Santo
The first three matches and much of the fourth match are matches from this week’s lineup, so I believe they’ve actually just shuffled things for this Friday. This lineup leaves Negro Casas, Blue Panther, Atlantis, Averno and Mephisto out in the cold, and so I wonder if there’s another trios match I’m missing here. CMLL.com doesn’t mention any of this, and still has the original lineup.
Not only is Ultimo vs Santo far more interesting than Halloween vs Universo, but something’s odd about them being ahead of that match again if that’s supposed to be a big match. Neither Ultimo or Santo were booked for 12/02, so they could be doing a quick build to a title match there (both have one), or something later in the month since they’re now running two more Fridays.
CMLL (THU) 11/26 Arena Neza Lineup [ova]
1) ?
2) ?
3) Mistico, Negro Casas, La Mascara vs Perro Aguayo Jr., Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero
4) Emilio Charles Jr. vs Satanico [hair/hair]
Amapola and Marcela are headed to Japan to work for Michinoku Pro for two weeks. (So I guess they’re off the 12/02 show? Is there someone who covers MPro?) Tzuki and Bracito de Oro are headed, uh, somewhere, till the end of the month. The wording wasn’t too clear.
Atlantis met with the female soccer player who wore his mask after scoring a goal last Friday, so I assume that’ll make TV.

That’s weird, the Ovaciones I read has the following:
“El mismo viernes, Universo 2000, M
To avoid any confusion, that is all in addition to the Santo vs Ultimo match.
Rob
Thanks. Didn’t see that line this morning, but figured I had to be missing something.
So, really, which do you prefer, Halloween vs Universo or Ultimo vs Santo?
Obviously… Valiente vs Super Comando.:)
Naturally I’d prefer Santo vs Ultimo. U2K vs Halloween is a big waste of time for everyone involved since those guys losing their hair means nothing. Hell, they may as well just do a draw to avoid a future revenge hair match with Damian vs Universo or Halloween vs MA2K. Santo vs UG just has nowhere to go, it’s just a special attraction type match and those type of matches never headline the big Arena Mexico shows. If they did setup a title match I wouldn’t be surprised but the feud is more Atlantis vs Santo than UG vs Santo.
I think the problem is you try to make too much sense out of CMLL booking. There is just no long-term planning to even attempt such a thing. 12/2 is supposed to be their big show but the lineup is shit. They go in with the idea “fans are coming anyways so we don’t need to stack the show”. Whereas us fantasy bookers just go nuts booking the most amazing shows possible. They will only do that when they have doubts about fans coming out. With the business hot, they can release any crappy lineup and know fans will come. It’s bad for keeping things hot long-term but as I said already, Mexicans don’t think far ahead, they just want their weekly money. The people in charge of CMLL needs to pop in some 92 tapes and then immediatly pop in some 93 tapes to see what happens when you don’t plan ahead.
The extra two weeks at Arena Mexico will be fun. They are definitely going to end the year with a big singles match and my bet is Santo vs Perrito or Atlantis vs Wagner once again with MAYBE this time them finally agreeing to a mask match when Arena Mexico opens back up except it’ll be set for the usual March spectacular. That way they can do nothing with the feud over the winter and reignite it when they return to Arena Mexico at the end of January/early February.
Two things I definitely expect to happen on 12/9 and/or 12/16:
– CMLL Trios Titles will be brought into the spotlight. Maybe a Perros vs GDI match for them.
– Averno/Mephisto tag title defense against Negro/Ultimo or Negro/Felino.
