Three CMLL Recaps

Here’s what I got. I was gonna do one more, but goofied off instead.

last weekend’s CMLL (#193): Dos and Ultimo was okay, but…there were all the normal agonizing flaws of lucah singles matches. Super fast opening falls and selling every move as exhausting in the third doesn’t allow the match to get into any particular rhythm or build any monetuem. The “move, pose and yell at the crowd, setup, move, cover for two, both lay on the mat for a bit” style doesn’t work unless they’ve made the exhaustion belivable based on what happened before, and that didn’t happen here.

07/16 CMLL (#179): Averno/Mistico was good overall, but that first fall was the opposite of good. Not the MOTYC you’d want or that Coliseo match supposedly was.

07/23 CMLL (#180): Trios trios trios, all build for later matches, and nothing super here, though the Mistico/Ultimo was fun. The Coliseo one was below expectations for that crew.

I hope to get to at least Mistico/Ultimo this week. Maybe more.

11/20 news

In the preview for tonight’s Arena Coliseo main event, Ovaciones says that despite Tarzan Boy teaming with the Perros and wearing the shirt and winning the trios title, he was never actually a member. Right.

Cerebro Negro won the whatever 30 man IWRG match. Final was him and Nitro.

Ovaciones says Scorpio Jr. and Villano IV will meet in a hair/hair match, but that wouldn’t make much sense. Probably meant III. I’ll figure out tommorow.

Tonight’s Arena Neza main event is LA Park & Dos Caras vs Ultimo GUerrero & Rey Bucanero, with a semimain of Danger, Tigre Blanco and Tigre Metalico versus Apocalipsis, Super Comando, and Artillero.

late night lucha lodown

Because I care about you all, I selflessly stayed up to 2AM CST to find out what lucha would air this week. (Actually, the USC/Fresno game finished up at 1:30, and I figured I might as well kill another half hour.)

This looks ODDLY like an infomericial – the one for a truckload of Mexican movie DVDs. There’s some horrible lighting in a couple of the ad spots. Might as well kill some time freshening up the rosters; you look now, you’ll see I’ve finally made the correct side the trios champions. So much time to kill, I remember to steal a better Polvora picture from this week’s Halcon.

Now it’s about 10 after, and my hopes of this just being a short overrun are kinda shot. As I’d like to do both this blue screen and this badly lit shot of a women holding a cowboy hat. Don’t shoot the lady, though. She can stay.

12 after the hour, and they are done! Yay. Gave up hope too soon. Normal ads, normal ads, too many ads. Comcast ad with screwed up low volume, way to go Comcast.

CMLL! CMLL! Probably a rerun! I just recalled when I was righting the opner up there that’s what they’ve done the last few times. Yep, it is.

CMLL #184 – taped 03/18/05 – aired 08/20/05
Hooligan/Veneno/Arkangel vs Blanco/Chris/Metalico [coliseo]
Felino/Volador/Safari vs Dr. X/Nitro/Sangre Azteca
Wagner/Shocker/Mistico vs Ultimo/Tarzan/Hector
Aguayo Sr./Aguayo Jr. vs Cien/MY2K [hair/hair vs hair/hair]

I have no idea why this episode. Fits no pattern. Maybe someone really digs Perro Sr.

So, anyway, if you taped this, you got an old epsiode, and you probably missed the end of main event unless you planned for a huge overrun. Which should be fine, since this is the fourth time it’s been shown now.

I should have a recap or more up tommorow evening.
