10/14 news

I must’ve missed this in the lineups, but Ovaciones mentions AAA will once again try to fill the Mexican Middleweight Championship tonight in Aguascalientes. Participants in the tournament (no style specified) are Histeria, Psicosis, Oriental, Audaz (?), Hijo del Fantasma (debut?), Angel, Zumbido, Charly Manson, Apache and Hator. If Charly Manson wins, he’ll hold three belts in different weight divisions (UWA Light Heavyweight, Mexico Heavyweight) – but then he probably won’t win.

The rest is typical Arena Mexico preview. This card doesn’t much for me; I expect the main event will be Atlantis low blowing Mistico but getting caught (so Mistico’s still got the great record in big singles matches but Atlantis doesn’t lose outright).

I figure, either next Monday or sometime next week, CMLL will announce the lineup for the 10/28 Leyenda de Plata ciberenetico. They’ve got a lot of guys to choose from this year; I was taking a look at the possibilities, and you could make 2 16 man cibernetico’s without dropping off much. We should probably get a good match out of it; it’s the worker cibernetico and they have access to plenty of ’em.

Since we might know who’s in by the next time I type something semi-seriously, I’m gonna take a guess at a possible lineup. Feel free to throw in your predictions in the comments. Remember: 16 men, no Perro because he meets the winner, and you still have to leave a credible main event.

Last Winner: El Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Surely in
1) El Hijo del Santo
2) Mistico
3) Dr. Wagner Jr.
4) Atlantis

Probably
5) Ultimo Guerrero
6) Rey Bucanero
7) Tarzan Boy
8) Hector Garza
9) Dos Caras Jr.
10) Jado (due in 10/21)
11) Gedo (due in 10/21)
12) Mr. Aguila

Guesses
13) Blue Demon Jr.
14) Maximo
15) Blue Panther
16) Hijo de Lizmark

Other logical possiblites: LA Park (out of the country?), Averno, Mephisto, Satanico, La Mascara, Texano Jr., Canek, Universo 2000, Mascara Ano 2000, Pierroth, Felino, Heavy Metal, Halloween, Damian, Apolo Dantes, Ultimo Dragon (dunno if he’ll be around), Metro, Black Warrior, Brazo de Plata, Bronco, Sagrado.

Out: Sangre Azteca, StarMAN (NJPW tour starts 10/22), Ryu Taguchi (back in NJPW), Ricky Marvin (NOAH).

Someone’s gotta be in the main event; my picks were based on something like Perro/FdT vs Mascara/Universo/Pierroth there.

Lucha Times

My recording of this week’s lucha (not the night time version) was an hour off for some reason. So no quick turnaround recap this week – but perhaps I’ll grab anther show and do it instead.

Lucha Times is up.

Saturday: So this is a three hour show (note the split feed) – even the over night replay is that long, and I don’t know what to make of it. I mean, I’ve heard the ideas – I like going back to the 90/90 shows best of all – but there’s no clues on what will actually happen. Galavision.com has actually started writing articles about lucha, if you look for them, but they don’t offer any answers.

The next show in the queue features Mascara/Dr. X for the MEX WELTER (in a match where Mascara ought to be proving what he can do, or we’ll know we he can’t) and Perro vs Mistico. But who knows? We’ll all find out together (except on the west coast.)

Sunday: Again, split feeds. Lineup looks good, though I haven’t gotten around to watching it – hey, there’s an idea for tomorrow.

high comedy alert

I’ve spent some money on some insane things this week, but buying the cmllblog.com domain probably is the silliest. At least my bag didn’t get searched this time.

I’m scheduled to be on the Figure4 Audio show on 10/20 Thursday (taping on Wednesday) 10/19 Wednesday (taping on Tuesday). Don’t ask me, I don’t pay enough attention. It’s a subscriber-only dealio, but should be a good half hour of lucha stuff, as long as I don’t completely tank it. Vegas posted the early over/under line of ‘uh’s at 50. Please join us!

Note To Self: Fabricate an interesting story of Why I Am A Wrestling Fan sometime this week.

10/13 news

Ovaciones has been talking about the Leyenda de Plata a lot for a show that’s still two weeks ago (cibernetico on 10/28.) That is repeated today, in talking about Santo’s last few dates due in for CMLL of the year (10/28, 11/04, 11/11 – the length of the tournament), and his own 23rd Anniversary show on 10/20 Arena Coliseo.

There’s also an IWRG lineup – they seem to be building to that Mistico/Blue Demon match they skipped due to Mistico’s injury – and a preview of Puebla’s Monday show (Canek, Atlantis, Blue Demon Jr. vs Negro Casas, Dos Caras Jr., Lizmark Jr.) Ovaciones hints Blue Demon will soon be in Arena Mexico – maybe for the cibernetico?

(el)Halcon(net) #40 is up. Inside:
– A story on the Mexico City El Santo statue. It’s going to be a bronze statute over 13 feet tall. They expect the work will be done on in January. There’s also a statue in Santo’s hometown.
– Interview with Texano Jr. You can tell this was done a couple of weeks ago, because he lists his biggest matches as the G1 match vs La Mascaras, and the Mexican Trios Title Shot with Misterioso II and Brazo de Oro Jr. Like many others, he started training without his parents knowledge, because they weren’t thrilled with the idea. He thinks the best wrestling ever was the wrestling from the 80’s, but it’s on the rise in 2005.
– Arena Mexico recap
– Q&A with Mascara Ano 2000. His picks his mask loss vs Perro Aguayo as his best match, and his first match as his worst match. Unfortunate translation error: “Better book. A book of Hitler.”
– VIP San Luis Polosi recap
– Amenaza Roja recap. Oddly formatting. Probably looks cool printed.
– NGX recap
– PAR Arena Solidaridad recap
– More pictures of people with masks who’ve since lost them. The MS-1 mask is cool

The Torch says Sean Waltman is going “to Mexico” for at least a month. No idea where.

lucha times to come

I’m going to wait till tommorow to get to them. Hate the HTML editors I have at the moment, don’t want to deal with updating.

FWIW, the schedule GALA appears to send to the listing companies for the second week is either the default one, or a repeat of the previous weekend’s schedule. I wouldn’t think about it too much till next week gets here.

10/12 News

News

On the 10/08 show, Negro Casas and Felino failed to defeated Minoru & Hirooki Goto for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Black Tiger IV (Rocky Romero) picked up the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship on that show, over Tiger Mask IV. Romero came to the ring with his newly won NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship, but there was no mention of the CMLL Super Light Championship he holds as Havana Brother I. Consider that title inactive, I guess.

Sangre Azteca and Starman are scheduled to work the 10/22 to 11/04 NJPW tour. When Will Sangre Azteca Get A Chance has been a reoccuring debate for years now, so perhaps this is the start of that. We can dream. Even given this is surely going to be another “CMLL wrestler goes to Japan to job a lot” tour, it’s great Sangre and Starman will get the oppurtinty, and aren’t truly going to be harmed by losses. (They’d be assumed to lose the same matches in Mexico as they’ll be assumed to lose in Japan.) Starman is a truly random choice, since he seemingly only visible in segunda/openers, not even having a stronger presence on the non-Mexico City shows. I imagine his inclusion is due to some combination of his look, CMLL not being depedent on him, and having an actual current passport. But that’s just a guess. (Another guess: Los Tigres couldn’t be sent, because they badly need them for a soon-to-be announced impending Arena Coliseo Tag Team Title Tournamnet.)

No Super Lucha stuff – or at least any I could find – this week. O’Campo has posted pictures of Dark Angel in Japan, which may also serve as an explaination.

Box Y Lucha’s update did go up this week. In #2735:
Cover features a lot, but Mistico vs Atlantis and Texano Sr. in a neck collar most of all. The Poster has GdI beating up people, always fun.
– There’s a long interview with Irma Gonzalez, who’s been involved in women’s wrestling for five decades. My translation gives up halfway thru, but it’s far more in depth than usual posted on the Box Y Lucha site.
– Interview with Texano Sr. He’s very thankful for all the help he’s recieved. There’s also a piece with many people from the show wishing him luck.
– Interview with Bello Califa, who claims to have invented the huracarrana, but gives credit to Hurcan Ramirez and Santo for popularizing it.
– Atlantis hypes up his match with Mistico by takling about how he much rather facing Dr. Wagner. He knows he could win Mistico’s mask if he felt like it, but he doesn’t. So Mistico’s safe for now.
– Mistico is disappionted in Atlantis for turning rudo, but he’s not going to let his own small size stop him from winning on Friday
– Mr. Aguila promises the best is yet to come.
– Starman explains his start in wrestling: he accompained his father to the gym from the time he was seven, and grew up seeing wrestlers. He went to a lot of shows – sounds like Arena Neza was the place for him.
– Super Brazo talks about his career

There’s a great AP story on lucha @ http://au.sports.yahoo.com/051012/3/p/az36.html. I have trouble believing Johnny Ace, for whatever reason. It must be awesome t be 17 and working Arena Coliseo.
