First thing I did today, when looking for lucha news from over the weekend, is check on AAA’s results to see how Shocker’s debut went. It’s odd for two reasons: I care about AAA’s results more, and also – Shocker didn’t debut. That sorta makes sense, as the last big show was Friday.

I flipped over to Sunday’s Arena Coliseo show to figure out some answers, and get one I’m not quite expecting: there’s a new NWA Light Heavyweight Champion, but his name is Dr. Wagner Jr. HMMMMM.

When the cane didn’t work, Damian logically went to the drink tray next, smashing it over Negro’s head!Tough not to get caught on that one. Perro joined the rudos after the match in beating up Negro (tough annivesary show for him), and the four revealed themselves to be Perro’s new Los Perros del Mal group. CMLL.com teases there’s more – I’m thinking the Garza/Terrible/Tarzan Boy trio would fit in.

On Saturday, Luchas 2000 held the Matematico retirement/Arena Coliseo anniversary show.

You notice Shocker made that show? He sorta disappeared after.

This weekend, the Shocker/Ultimo match was changed from a NWA LH Title match to a title versus title match, presumbably to add more drama to it. Less because Shocker was leaving the promotion (if eveyone knows, it hasn’t been reflected in the coverage till today, where there’s a last minute add of a sentence mentioning the possiblity of his jump in Ovaciones), and more because it would’ve been easy to do a status keepining finish if Shocker was sticking around.

However, (the story Ovaciones is going with is) Shocker didn’t appear an hour before the start of the Coliseo, as required by the lucha commission. The promotors tried, unsuccefully, to get a hold of Shocker. They were able to get a hold of the NWA Championship Committee (uh huh), who decided to strip Shocker of the title. Since a title match was promised, there was still going to be one, between Ultimo Guerrero and Dr. Wagner Jr. – see, they were the #1 and #2 contenders in the April rankings.

Note: I’d kill to see those rankings. Fun would have by all.

Worked out pretty nice the Doc happened to be in the building for the semi-final. Satanico ended up working twice to fill his spot.

Juvi, supposed to be on the same side as the guy who still has the mask, accidentally (?) hit Psicosis with a chair. The other corner person, Histeria, got involved and somehow everyone ended up on the floor for the 20 count. Rematch is expected for the 04/30 show.
5) Vampiro/La Parka/Latin Lover DQ Konnan/Cibernetico/Abyss
Excessive violence by the rudos

TripleMania XIII will be on 05/15, in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

IWRG: Heavy Metal didn’t win the IWRG Heavyweight Championship (interfernce), but Cerebro Negro won IWRG’s IC Welterweight Championship from Avisman.

Super Luchas cover story is lucha in animation, but the top banner headline says Juvi’s signed with the WWE.

Super Luchas says Fernado Gomez Arias has died.

We finally get the Wagner/Black Tiger matchup, and I kinda wonder if there’s an angle coming out of this. Rocky Romero is NJPW’s new Black Tiger, and according the Observer, NJPW has told Silver King to give up the gimmick soon. This would be an intersting place to start. Note Lizmark Jr.’s being booked on CMLL cards again.
4) Universo 2000/Mascara Magica/Rey Bucanero vs Hector Garza/Hijo del Perro Aguayo/Terrible
Mascara Magica being in this match is so weird. He’s supposed to be a tecnico, except he’s randomlly a rudo at times – except it’s odd time to be a rudo if it teams him with a guy he supposedly hates. Can’t be a concidence he’s back this week, too.
5) Negro Casas, Heavy Metal, Felino vs Blue Demon Jr./Damian 666/Halloween
Revenge match. They’re building to a bigger match here.
