How would you program Galavision’s lucha coverage

I am so glad you asked.

I change my mind on this often, depending on what the lag is like, what’s coming up, and how I feel about AAA at the moment. But these are my current thoughts.

I’m going with the presumption that
– GALA wants to air all the tapes they’ve got backloaded
– They’re not intersted in expanding the amount of hours of lucha they air.

Consistent with what they’re doing right now.

My Plan:

Saturday Afternoon: CMLL only. If there’s a two hour episode, it airs complete. If it’s just a one hour episode, you air two of them, and actually catch up a little bit.

Sunday Afternoon: Instead of Vuelta (which is sorta pointless when you’re this far behind), you repeat the same thing with AAA – two hours slot, how ever much they can fit in. No skipping ahead here.

Saturday Night/Sunday Morning: I always figure it’s the hardest of the hardcore who watch the awfulest slot. Let’s reward them: each week, the newest footage they have. It’s gotta fit in the two hour slot, and it’s pointless if this slot starts getting a lag as well, so you cut shows in half if you have to, but keep this slot as a little bonus for those willing to deal with it

(And take the CMLL half of the show and ship it to Telelatino. Keeps them happy.)

Eventually! you may catch up to the new shows. This will be a day of celebration and happiness throughout the western hempishere.

At that point, I’d need to re-evaluate how things are going, but my instinct is to put Vuelta back on Sunday (but turn it way back – as far as they can find tapes, and let’s hope they can find some tapes). Saturday’s shows would be the new stuff – if it all can’t fit in the afternoon, you split the shows and air one promotion during the day and one promotion at night (but switching them up week to week to keep it fair.)

Now – can anyone put in touch with someone who might be able to excute the plan? That’d be neat.

sorta TLN recap

LAW, showcasing it’s willingness to post a wide array of writers, has a CMLL recap for last week’s TLN show on their site right now. It’s, uh, creative? The enthuasim to dive right in without trying to figure out who’s who shows thru.

best line:

Match 2 is another 3-round 6-man tag between Capos(Leather Fetish Boys) and Boricuas(the Masked Ones).

Okay. That actually would make the belt stuff lamer, I think.

While I’m at, I really need to make a timeline/index for TLN’s shows already. I’m sure I can stumble thru the DVDVR posts and make myself a chart, but I may or may not have that time; if you’ve done it or know someone who’s recapping it, add a comment.

(I’ll be doing my own recaps…uh, sometime.)

End of Feburary shows

Someone needs to start a lucha forum and recruit posters and motivate them to post. (important note: someone who is NOT me.)

Sounds like OELL is next running it’s normal double shot weekend on 02/19 (Cicero) and 02/20 (Aurora). There’s no card, but the above link has a name listing:

– Vampiro
– Shocker
– Tarzan Boy
– Misterioso II
– Mascarita Sagrada
– Spyder Boy
– Misteriocito

(I’ll go out on a limb and say SWAT Kat and Discovery may also be on this show.)

Misterioso wasn’t the 4th name I was hoping for, but he should be pretty fun to see in person. Not that the other guys are shaby.

I’m going to the Aurora one, thoughI have this bizarre and irrational (and only mentioned for the humor) fear I’ve said something

The next ELL-MEX (Congress Theatre) show is on 02/26 (Saturday – one night after the Modest Mouse show! If only they could go on at the same time.) I haven’t heard anything about the lineup outside of the reports from the Santo show, but they had a legend lineup of Mil Mascaras, Tinieblas, Lizmark, Satanico and Negro Navarro. If that’s right, we’re probably just one rudo away (Infernel?) from the main event trios match.

You do have to pay for tickets this time – $10.

Congress’s website also lists a 03/05 show, but has another event booked for the same day and time. How odd.

02/09 news

EDIT: There was a HTML error in the initial post, causing it not to fully displayed. It’s now fixed.

Correction: It’s Cien and Mascara 2K vs Perro and Perro, in the hair/hair match. That makes no sense to me as an endgame, seeing as Universo was the one who broke Perro Sr.’s neck and all. (Which means, duh, it’s not the endgame.)

02/08 (TUE) Arena Coliseo Results [OVACIONES]
1) Pierrothito y Fire b Pequeno Olimpico y Bracito de Oro
2) StarMAN, Tigre Metalico, Explosivo Hooligan b Super Comando, Jeque, Koreano
CMLL.com made specail note of nominal rudo Hooligan showing up on the other side.
3) Mr. Mexico, Arkangel, Veneno b La Mascara, Alan Stone, Sagrado vs
4) Brazo de Plata, Brazo de Oro, Zumbido b Black Tiger, Terrible, Mascara Magica
Mascara Magica got along with Terrible during the match, but had words with him after it.
5) Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero b Dos Caras Jr., Atlantis, Black Warrior
Tarzan low blowed Dos Caras in the final fall, setting up a match between them.

Other News:

Black Warrior films a bit part in a movie with Miguel Rodarte (IMDB) Thursday. In 2005, Warrior would like to get another shot at Ultimo Guerrero’s CMLL LH Title, and even a mask vs mask match versus him. It’s nice to have goals.

Meanwhile, Ryu Taguchi cites Santo and Dr. Wagner as his Mexican inspirations. Taguchi and Okumura’s plans are to beat everyone, and then beat them for titles, masks, and hairs. It’s nice to have goals.

A show on 02/12 in Tampico will feature Santo, Mistico and Vampiro vs Blue Demon, Pierroth and LA Park. Unless Ovaciones has Vamp and Park on wrong sides.

A Blue Demon/Blue Panther team gets some hype. Their next ta match will be on 03/06.

Pena says TripleMania XIII will happen in May.

02/07 news and notes

News and notes.

02/05 (FRI) Arena Mexico Results [O’Campo]
1) Texano Jr, Chris Stone, Tiger Metalico b Ramstein, Super Comando, Koreano
2) Felino, Volador Jr., Safari b Pierroth Jr., Sangre Azteca, Arkangel
3) Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 DQW Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Pierroth, Hijo de Pierroth
Perro Aguayo Sr., looking in ring shape, ran in to help his son. Challenges were made, and now we’ve got a Aguayos vs Cien/Universo double hair/hair match scheduled for 03/18. That’s a long way off.
4) LA Park, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Mascara Sagrada b Hector Garza, Apolo Dantes, Terrible
5) Shocker b Dr. Wagner Jr. to win La Copa Jr. final

Ovaciones thought the crowd was more with Shocker than Wagner and Wagner rudoed it up a little bit. Ernesto O’Campo’s times have it as “quick first two falls for a long third fall” type match. Intersting that there’s a difference. They also estimated the crowd as “over 10,000”, so it was probably another good draw. Gotta figure they’ll do this again next year.

CMLL 02/06 (SUN) Arena Coliseo Results [KrisZ]
1) Caligula/Messala b Rayos Tapatios
2) Misterioso II/Tigre Blanco/Tiger Metalico b Ramstein/Guerrero del Futuro/Flecha
3) Brazo de Oro/Sagrado/Virus b Mexico/Nitro/Loco Max
4) Felino/Warrior/Satanico b Brazo de Platino/Magica/MY2K
5) LA Park/Negro Casas/Blue Panther b Aguayo/Terrible Vampiro/Emilio Caras
No shows. No idea why. Hope Emilio isn’t hurt again. Rudos turned on each other, and MY2K has to come out and save his brother.

02/08 (TUE) Arena Coliseo Lineup
1) Pequeno Olimpico y Bracito de Oro vs Pierrothito y Fire
2) StarMAN, Tigre Metalico, Explosivo vs Super Comando, Jeque, Koreano
3) La Mascara, Alan Stone, Sagrado vs Mr. Mexico, Arkangel, Veneno
4) Brazo de Plata, Brazo de Oro, Zumbido vs Black Tiger, Terrible, Mascara Magica
I guess Zumbido being let go was wishful thinking? Or a change of plans. Magica’s split personality shows up again.
5) Dos Caras Jr., Atlantis, Black Warrior vs Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero

02/09 (FRI) Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Maximo, Brazo de Plata Jr, Sombra de Plata vs Sangre Azteca, Loco Max, Ramstein
2) Negro Casas, Felino, Safari vs Emilio Charles, Taguchi, Okumura
That’s NJPW’s Ryusuke Taguchi in his CMLL debut appearance. Ovaciones says he’ll be working Arena Coliseo, Arena Mexico, Puebla, and Cuervnavaca. Tough to get a read on how high they’re going to read him – this is low, but because of an odd card. Wonder if they’re feeling out what he can do in the ring – you’ve got lead trainer Negro here, and Taguchi faces three ring veterans on Sunday. Does seem as though the Emilio/Taguchi/Okumura team is going to be regular at least short term.
3) Shocker, Dr. Wagner, Satanico vs Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Mephisto
4) Mistico (c) vs Averno for the NWA Middleweight Championship
This is matchup #3. Mistico’s swept matches on 01/01 in Arena Coliseo and 01/30 in Guadalajara.
5) Universo 2000, Cien Caras, Mascara 2000 vs Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Pierroth, Vampiro
this is going to be a long six week build

02/11 (SUN) Arena Coliseo Lineup
1) Ultimo Dragoncito y Tsuky vs Espectrito y Pequeno Violencia
2) Chris Stone, Texano Jr., Tigre Blanco vs Mogur, Guerrero del Futuro y Flecha
3) Virus, Tony Rivera, Misterioso, Nitro, Dr. X, Holligan
4) Blue Panther, Satanico, Brazo de Oro vs Emilio Charles, Taguchi, Okumura
5) Rayo de Jalisco, Brazo de Plata, Black Warrior vs Canek, Vampiro, Rey Bucanero

Surprise: Dr. Wagner did manage to retain the UWA Title over Canek in Naucalpan on 02/03. That issue is still pending, and maybe for a while unless they’re going to double main event it with the hair match.

Surprise: Tinieblas Jr. turned in his AAA debut, joining LLL. This is the nWo, after all.

The ‘in’ crowd: Speaking of obtusely large groups, Ovaciones lists this as the current GdI lineup: Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy…Averno, Mephisto, Nitro, Dr. X, Hooligan, and Sangre Azteca. Olimpico’s begging for a correction. Rumors that they’re all leaving to form their own promotion are false but pretty amusing.

Upcoming important AAA tapings:
– 02/03: Aguascalientes (first taping of the year)
– 02/20: Monterrey (Rey de Reyes and Reina de Reinas opening round)
– 03/04: Queretaro
– 03/11: Tampaulipas (Rey de Reyes and Reina de Reinas final)

News for you

CMLL.com reports that Shocker beat Dr. Wagner Jr. yesterday in the Copa Jr. finals. Babelfish would indicate that it was a great match with the crowd being split (or, as Babelfish put it “the public divided in two sides, those that went to him to Shocker and those that they supported Dr Wagner, thus being clear that both they are the great masters of the popularity”).

No word on match quality or attendence, although the 1/28 show drew 14,500 and the tournament as a whole has been a big success, so it could turn into a large annual event (although it would seem you would use largely the same guys over and over).

In fact, business has been so good, this was the second best January in the history of arena Mexico, lagging only behind 1999 as the best.

Not sure if this was covered, but CMLL dropped Zumbido a month ago due to drug issues. He may start with AAA soon.

Lastly, Puroresu Power’s 39th edition of the Puroresu Power Hour has an interview with Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Buccanero, Virus, and Felino, conducted with the help of a translator. The segment starts about 1:12 into the show. Nothing earth shattering, but certainly something different. Can’t seem to link right now, but I’m sure you can figure it out.
