02/17 news

Ovaciones lucha headline, translated: Japan passed the test – The Mexican tequila, enemy number 1.

Okumura helpfully expands on this concept:

“The tequila and the sharp one [mexican food], are very rich, but very dangerous. They are our more dangerous enemies, one makes that our beel burns and the other, see the crude reality the other day.”

Okumura, perhaps not having completely defeated tequila yet, openly wishes for a hair/hair match with Negro Casas as part of Casas’s 25th Anniversary Tour. Taking Negro’s hair would be a swell gift, Okumura figures.

The article goes over Taguchi’s short time wrestling, PE teaching degree, and desire to win titles or at least lose to the best and learn something from it. Taguchi notes he’s been a tecnico to this point, but is a rudo now.

They still haven’t listed Canek/Rayo for Sunday’s Coliseo show on Sunday on CMLL.com, but Ovaciones is sure of it.

The ‘Mistico (c) vs Averno for NWA Middleweight Championship’ tour hits Puebla on 02/21. (Last week’s match was only a lightning match.)

Lucha Times

I’m guessing no new GALA lucha this week.

GALA has a UNCAF (CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying for Central American teams) triple header scheduled for Saturday, along wiht the usual boxing and Mexican League soccer shows. The 2-4p show has been competely bumped off the lineup.

There is the usual 3-5 am airing, but they’ve just aired repeats in the past when the afternoon showing is pre-empted, and I expect the same here. (Though I’ll be taping anyway, because expecations are wrong often enough.)

All the listings have been shifted back a week. If I’m right, we’ll be 91 days behind in the end. The upside is Mistico vs Averno II is now scheduled for my birthday weekend, and I find it suitable for a lucha present. (Reaching…)

Sunday is on the lineup, but moved and split feeded due to a double header and a “history of soccer” (Classic Game?) on the lineup. I think this week really is the minishow, but I haven’t been reading the schedule well on this of late; if I were you, I don’t know that I would trust me.

For fun, and to make this as completely unreadable as possible, my TLN guess of the week has been added to the Lucha Times chart. This week, it’s pretty easy. Or it should be.

02/16 news

Arena Coliseo (TUE) 02/15 Results [whoa.com]
1) Meteorix/Los Rayo Tapatios I & II b Flecha/Polvora/Vaquero
2) Maximo/Chris Stone/Tigre Blanco b Loco Max/Koreano/Guero Loco
3) Satanico/Zumbido/Safari b Nitro/Veneno/Arkangel
4) Atlantis/Niebla/Brazo de Plata b Emilio el Hijo de Pierroth/Bestia/Mephisto
5) Dos Caras Jr. DQ Tarzan Boy
Two falls. Reports are not promising.

Ovaciones noted it was a complete tecnico sweep.

Mistico owns Averno, winning yet again, this time in their Monday night Puebla matchup. The show was held up from starting because they couldn’t arrive (and didn’t finish till midnight as a result) because of a (unrelated, I assume) PAN blockade.

In Guadlajara on Sunday, Shocker retained the CMLL LH Title over Ultimo Guerrero. This week’s card look something like this:

(fixed)

Negro Casas is pushing back his 25th anniversary tour. They’re going to time it to include a major Arena Mexico show.

As a result of a four way match in Tampico last night, Brazo de Platino has lost his identity; I presume this means he’s going to start working as Maximo full time, unless I’ve screwed that up some how.

La Copa Jr. update

The La Copa Jr. nFAQ has been updated with a previous iteration from ’96. Check out the connection to ’05 – the finalists both were scheduled to appear in this year’s show, but had to drop out. Otherwise, 3 carry overs between 9 years, which would be pretty surprising for anything but lucha.

Thanks to Robert for the info.
