Locally upcoming (01/05)

Believe it or not, there’s a lucha surplus in Chicago; there are enough shows, I may not actually go to ’em all. 3 more January lucha shows were announced today, to go with the 2 ones later in the month. (Hence, new category.) I’ve gone over the OELL ones last month, but I’m gonna put the whole calendar here to keep it straight.

(thanks to ChicagoWrestling.com)

01/08 – ELL-MEX, Congress Theater, Chicago (7:30 bell)
(where there’s NO PLACE TO PARK, but I think I saw a Blue line stop nearby? So maybe I’ll take that next time.)
$10 adults, $5 kids. No VIP seats this time, or they’re all the same price regardless. I wonder if that might have to do with no Outside guys on the card; it’s all the OMLL talent.

1) TBA
2) TBA
3) SWAT Kat and Mascara de Jade vs Malefico I and II
4) Discover, Principe Franky and Aguila del America vs Principe Azteca, Infernal, Martin Escobedo

01/15 – ELL-MEX, Congress Theater, Chicago
card TBA

01/22 – ELL-MEX, Congress Theater, Chicago
Scheduled to appear: Atlantis, Super Porky, Villano III, el Hijo Del Santo

01/29/05 – Cicero, IL (Sat)
($25 vip/$15 adult/$7 child, doors open at 6:30)
1) Horoscopo/Lanza Llamas vs Yakuza/Dragon
2) Principe Franky/Swat Cat vs Mr. Coraje/Reo
3) XTassis/Silver Star vs Guerrerito del Futuro/Mini Halloween
4) Felino/Virus vs Rey Bucanero/Ultimo Guerrero

01/30/05 – Aurora, IL (Sun)
($25 vip/$15 adult/$7 child, doors open at 6:30)
1) Mascara de Jade vs Swat Cat
2) Principe Frankky/Sagitario vs Mr. Coraje/Holy Terror
3) Xtassis/Silver Star vs Guerrerito del Futuro/Mini Halloween
4) Felino/Virus vs Rey Bucanero/Ultimo Guerrero

I’m planning on going 01/22 and 01/30 show at least. I’m tempted to go to the 01/29, and the other ones depends on what comes together. Also, jtron may make some nice change if he can tape some of these.

  1. The Congress is right off the Western Blue line stop. There are two really good cheap Mexican restaurants on Western and Armitage just a block away, and a good bar right by the train as well.

  2. What he said. Get off at the Western stop, then walk north on Milwaukee until you hit LUCHALAND~!

See you at the shows; I should contact these folks about taping. Or, just show up with a camera. Either way.

  3. My problem with taking the train to get there is less the Blue Line and more Metra. Trains coming in on Saturday from Aurora get to Union at 5:40 (90 minutes of time killing) or 7:40. There’s 10:30 (which is probably close enough) and 12:30 trains back home, so that’s not a big of a problem.

Unless I just found some place dirt cheap and safe to park near the airport or elsewhere on the Blue Line, I guess. I believe the Key To Life is finding a parking place in Chicago with a reasonable price and easy access to the El. It’s even better if it’s attached to some sort of housing.

Dealing with either train logistics or traffic/parking/directions is always the major stumbling block for us suburbinian losers. If I still was on the Red line, this would be an easier decision.

  4. I actually used to live around the corner from the Congress, and assure you that there is plentiful parking on the sidestreets around there. Some have zoned parking, but there’s always free parking, which is perfectly safe in that neck of the woods, on Western.
