CMLL Mini Line - 04/03/04 #127

Welcome To The Show Vignette: Ultimo Guerrero, taking time out to promise revenge on Shocker and Park.

Vignette:

Match 1: Averno vs Satanico
Arena Mexico, 02/10/04
Joined in Progress

  1. Satanico

Winner: Satanico
Match Time: 1:31
Approx Rating: 45-50

Other Match Notes: Averno has about zero mask left as we join; only a thin slice under his nose is keeping it attached to his face, and his face is 90% exposed. It seems as if he's given up trying to fix it at this point. Averno doesn't get the pin with feet on the ropes, Satanico doesn't get the pin when Averno argues with the cradle, Averno doesn't get the pin with a missile dropkick and feet on the ropes and Mephisto holding down his feet. Satancio uses a flapjack and his standing figure four pin, and Mephisto has seen enough. Negro Casas tries to help out his man, but he's quickly taken down. Rudo beatdown as we leave. Really nothing going on here in what we saw

Match 2: Bestia Salvaje (c), Violencia, Mephisto vs Negro Casas (c), Felino, Virus
Arena Coliseo, 02/10/03

  1. Bestia Salvaje
  2. Negro Casas
  3. Bestia Salvaje

Winner: Bestia Salvaje
Match Time: 11:42
Approx Rating: 74-79

Other Match Notes: This is a weird match to show. Ah, now that I've seen the tecnicos, I can see it more, but it's still kinda odd, and unless we have four matches tonight, they're not airing one of the matches they hyped up at the beginning of the show. I pay so much attention to the first fall, I miss Felino getting beat once, rewind and nearly miss it again. Mephisto tries to figure out how hard he can slap Casas, which is fun for him. Less so for Negro. Casas teases being fired up enough to start a one on three comeback without a whip gone bad, but no one here is really that fired up. The rudos decide they'd like to go one on one versus the brothers Casas in a chest slap battle, and actually don't win. This is the rare four minute beatdown that feels like twelve. Mephisto holds Casas to be killed via double dropkick to the head, but Bestia and Violencia get pulled at as they get to the ropes, and there's your comeback. Casas wants to fight Mephisto on equal ground, apparently, so he waits till they're both ready. Casas is the only guy who uses neckbreakers on a regular basis, versus about everyone in the US. Virus bumps Violencia with a quick top rope bodyblock, but he doesn't go down. Next move works better. Casas held Mephisto for a Virus missile dropkick, but it was the rare case of tecnico double teaming gone bad. Mephisto lowered his straps after they were getting in the way; they were down when we joined the match last week. Mep and Casas proceeded to have a goofy headbutt battle. That's a tough one to win, and they actually KO each other, much to my delight. Casas locks in a half Boston, and rudos are slow to break it up but do. Casas tries Casas Special, Mephisto pushes him off and gives him a low blow uppercut. That's it. That's an unbelievably long match, as far as not being clipped, for an undercard special like this.

This was actually the fourth match on the Arena Coliseo card, happening before the one we saw earlier. We didn't get the hyped Aguayo/Guapos vs Capos rematch, which would've featured the challenge for a hair/hair vs hair/hair match.

Stellar Moments

Vignette: Casting goes on for Guapos U. They've got computers this week! Well, computer. Who's here.
Sangre Azteca - holy crap, he's got a guy playing tribal drums. Full elaborate outfit as well. Dude came prepared. He's the best looking Aztecs. Conch shell plays him out! Don't mock him, mini. Guapos make jokes about him when he leaves, how rude
Tigre Metalico - who has nothing to say. but he'll pose
Super Porky!!! - Wait, no - he's actually dragging in Brazo de Oro Jr. and Brazo de Plata Jr. to try out, but one (Plata?) is really not liking this idea and walks off. Porky begs to give his family a chance.
Apuntalo -  from Puebla. That may not actually be his name. That may be some Spanish word I just thought was his name.
Some Chick - she's a woman! She's got muscles. She's a fitness model, but they're casting luchadores. They're all a little scared by her, so they offer her a job as instructor instead. She's sweet on the mini. Of course.
That's it for this week.

Match 3: Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero (c), Black Warrior vs LA Park, Shocker (c), Rayo de Jalisco
Arena Mexico, 02/13/04

  1. Shocker
  2. Ultimo Guerrero
  3. a

Winner: Ultimo Guerrero
Match Time: 11:44
Approx Rating: 85-88

Other Match Notes: Warrior has changed his music again. Or someone hit the wrong button. And turned on the smoke machine. Park got new music. Or someone's playing it backwards. DANCE. Why haven't they done the Park/Porky team yet? Park's got one of those Guapos Matrix coats. Shocker's got new music too! Maybe I've forget everyone's music. Tarzan and Ultimo did come out to the usual. And same thing with the last guy. Captains brawled outside, then started it up inside. I'm hesitant to curse myself, but it'd be awesome if this is a match that doesn't start with a beatdown. Shocker and Ultimo have their usual level exchanges, with Shocker pulling out an enziguri. Shocker sends them both to the floor, and Ultimo takes a bulldog there. Tarzan does not appreciate Park's wacky antics. And his kicks even less. Park throws off his right glove to go all Michael Jackson on us, I guess. Rayo really needs to be in another match, and Casas or someone needs to be there. They crowd shot out a bit of Warrior's offense. After Rayo puts the Tapatia on Warrior, all heck breaks loose.

Shocker and Warrior started the second fall with a painful looking slap battle. Ultimo/Rayo gets crowd shotted. They run info about Guadalajara during their sequence as well. They do Ultimo/Rey "racked over Ultimo's knees + top rope move" combo, with Warrior filling in for Rey and using his legdrop instead. Shocker takes the guillotine legdrop while being leaned on the top rope.

More Guadalajara hype in the third fall, as Shocker lies dead on the outside. I guess this got linked in because Tarzan and Ultimo are in the semi-final. Shocker ends up being brought in anyway, saving the tecnicos from a countout, and turning the tide on a missed corner charge. Park beats up Warrior with a small fan, I guess. While Shocker gives Ultimo a suplex on the ramp. Rayo flattens Tarzan with a plancha. Warrior tries to kill someone with his tope, but Shocker trips him up. Shocker tries for a springboard 'rana, but slips and powerbombs himself, though Warrior catches him sorta to make it look like they meant to do that, and since the next spot is Ultimo adding a top rope splash, that's probably where they were going. Warrior tried to do a back suplex or cradle or something, but Park just fell backwards and Warrior was confused, covering him anyway.

Another week of "if Rey can't come back, we can do this", I think.
