CMLL Mini Line - 04/17/04 (#125)
Chronology: On the first US run, they skipped a week of taping (124) that was pretty important to ongoing issues. They discuss the main issue - the turn of events at the end of Park/Shocker vs Ultimo/Rey (c) for the CMLL Tag Championship match.
Welcome To The Show Vignette: Apolo Dantes
Vignette: Shocker and Mascara Magica hype up Guapos U 2004, with address. Shocker and Mascara ask each other where the mascot is, but neither know. He's - riding in on a motorcycle. With Terrible. Mascot has a Guapos pleather jacket and blond hair. He gets a t-shirt too.
Match 1: Capos (Mascara Aņo 2000, Apolo Dantes, Cien Caras
(c)) vs Guapos (Terrible, Mascara Magica, Shocker (c))
Where/When: Arena Mexico, 01/30/04
Winner: Capos (2-1)
Approx Rating: 81-84
Other Match Notes: No entrances (though in ring introductions), but they show a
text lineup of each side, with captains indicated. They haven't done this in
quite some time, and it's nice to have it back. Guapos wear yellow. Apolo and
Shocker get into it before the match, while everyone else stands away. They agree
to take it outside and continue chopping each other there. They take it back
inside, Shocker comes off the ropes and Apolo gets a big boot. Big boot try on
Cien is caught, and so starts the beatdown. At least it was a different way of
getting it to it. Aņo pulls out a crucifix powerbomb on Magica. Capos still do
pretty good beatdowns when Pierroth isn't involved. During the second fall, they
start running a crawl for the upcoming Guadalajara show. Magica almost came up
short on his reverse tope. Terrible using Magica's back as a springboard while
Magica was covering does not count as breaking up the pin, seemingly, because
the ref counted three, but Magica put on the Rings anyway. Terrible
springboarded into a face first tope, busting open his nose in the process.
That's the weird submission Terrible's been using lately that I need a better
name for. Most noticeable clip in the third fall. Again, they (Shocker here)
used the Stunner as a setup for a (accidental) dropkick to the face, with the
victim just dropping to his knees to get in position for the next move. Looks
very off. Focus on Terrible/Caras, though I don't know if they're just working
off the bloody nose at this point. Magica's hair is not of high quality. His
tope is, though it's nearly short. Finishing sequence has Shocker giving Aņo an
abdominal stretch for quite a while, while Caras and Terrible do their sequence.
Shocker tries to get involved and pays for it.
Stellar Moments - included in here are clips of Park and Shocker winning the belts, and Rey's injury. Ultimo almost gets spiked on his head by a Park bodyscissors powerbomb (!) earlier so they're lucky they have any tag team left. You can hear Rey scream and scream, and that's about as pleasant as you might imagine. A clip of the finish (Shocker using his wacky cradle) reveals that despite being down to one functional leg, Rey actually tried to go and break the pin. He made as far as getting to the apron, and Park gently held him back.
Vignette: Ultimo Guerrero and Tarzan Boy visit Rey Bucanero in the hospital. Rey has a nice suite, and he seems to be feeling better. Tarzan tells Rey not to worry about winning the tag titles, and Ultimo makes the point that Shocker and Park didn't beat them, just bad luck.
We flash back to how Rey hurt his knee: Shocker had Rey's leg trapped in a seat and was kicking the chair at ringside, opposite the ramp. Ultimo was knocked out of the ring by Park, and ended up in front of Shocker. Shocker and Rey saw Park's dive coming, but Park was more than Ultimo could handle, and he got blasted into Shocker, Rey, and the row of chairs, which all went down while Rey's knee was still inside. Rey was intense pain and they pretty much stopped the match to extract him from the chairs. They try a spot shadow, but there are so many legs wearing black it's still tough to tell what happened. As the doctor attempts to cut of Rey's knee brace to get at it, Ultimo finishes off Park with his top rope inverted superplex. (There's obviously clipping going on here.) Rey's been ruled out, so it's down to Shocker and Ultimo, and immediately Shocker uses his cradle for the win.
Back in the hospital, Rey's doctor comes in and explains the surgery on the knee. We get knee surgery cam as the doctor says many words like "cartridge" and "ligament" in Spanish. I think we settled on arthroscopic surgery, right? Three to four weeks before he can resume activity. And when he can, Rey says they'll win back the tag titles. The doctor leaves, and GdI talks off revenge
Match 2: Tarzan Boy (c), Ultimo Guerrero, Black Warrior vs
Atlantis (c), Safari, Blue Panther
Where/When: Arena Mexico, 01/30/04
Winner: Atlantis
Approx Rating: 82-85
Other Match Notes: All entrances. Tarzan's introduction includes the line "una figura del table dance", which is just great. Safari does do a lot of talking on the way to the ring. We've got the (just peaked?) Tarzan/Atlantis issue and a lesser Panther/Warrior one. Ultimo and Atlantis do a fun armdrag sequence. Wacky Safari move: handspring off the apron into a headscissors on the floor. Panther cross bodys Ultimo out of the ring, but ends up awkward enough that Ultimo almost lands on his head. He gets up just in time to take a Safari tope. Panther's submission left him and Tarzan under the ropes, which Baby Richard pointed out but either he or the tecnico ref decided that was good enough. Match wasn't clipped before Safari got pinned in fall 2; it was that quick, mostly just set up for the Warrior spot. Second finish was a wacky submission spot. Guadalajara match hype during third fall. Warrior gives Panther a clothesline, taunts the chant for him, slams him, and heads up. Tarzan and Ultimo are begging him not to do it the whole way - and Warrior misses the splash, head to knees. That's always great. Safari and Atlantis get revenge with Ultimo and Tarzan's legs tied together for a double submission, but Warrior breaks it up before going to kil Safari with the tope. This starts the dive sequence,, followed immediately by the end. I think that ends the Tarzan/Atlantis stuff.
