CMLL Line (#118) - 03/05/04

Vignette: Just like they want to break free of Satanico, Averno and Mephisto want to break free of the images/masks he gave them. If you have an idea for new gear for the ex-Infernales, mail it to Dr. Lavista #189, Col. Doctores, Mexico DF, C.P. 06724 and they'll get you front row tickets at Arena Mexico for a few months.

Despite this recap taking place four months after this first vignette, they're still looking. Not a good sign.

1 Arkangel (c), Averno, Mephisto vs Angel Azteca, Satanico (c), Alan Stone
12/12/03, Arena Mexico
70
1 trios 3:26 double armbar on Satanico fine angle, not good match
2 2:37 Azteca 'rana Arkangel
3 2:30 Averno low blow uppercut/Mephisto pin Satanico
T 8:33 rudos (2-1)

Notes: Arkangel has teamed up with these two a decent amount away from Mexico City, so it makes sense they'd pick him as their first new partner. Averno and Mephisto are wearing their flame overshirts. Satanico wisely waits for his partners. They love Alan Stone this month, I guess. ex-Infernales can wait no longer and attack as Azteca's music starts. Wow, more matches from Azteca after the mask/mask match than before. Wow, Azteca is completely bald this week. He was just very shaved last week. ex-Infernales mug Satanico while Azteca and Arkangel brawl in the ring.

No whistle to start. All the Infernales are wearing the same black w/red flame tights. Satanico is getting the worse of it on the ramp, with Alan being kept away, while Azteca is beating Arkangel around the ring. Azteca enlarges Ark's eye hole and drags him around the ring by the mask till Averno puts a stop to it. All the rudos put the boots to Satanico, stopping only to keep Alan Stone away. Now Alan's brought in the ring- double whip, double back elbow, double whip, ark with a spinebuster, ex-Infernales lean him on the outside of the apron and Ark knocks him down with a running dropkick through the ropes. Azteca is back up and trying to get a piece of Arkangel, but Averno again helps put a stop to that. Mephisto goes back to beating up Satanico as Ark stomps down Azteca in the corner. Total rudo domination. Double whip for Azteca, double back elbow for him. Double whip, Averno trips Azteca up from outside and picks him up - snake eyes on the apron, Mephisto Slip 'N Slide Splash! Arkangel adds a suicide stomp in an attempt to break a leg. Back in the ring, Satanico's gotten a momentary advantage on Averno and is letting him have it with punches, but the other rudos catch on quick and put a stop to it. Lots of clubbing blows, and Satanico can't fight out of the three on one, though he tries. Double whip for him, double spinebuster by his pupils. Double armbar while Ark hops on Satanico's back to pose - and that'll do it! (3:26) Always love the pose win. Rudos celebrate.

We take a look at the crowd, and almost miss an important plot point. Actually, we do see it live, but they eventually show us: Averno and Mephisto take off their Satanico-gifted outfits to reveal plain red (Mephisto) and black (Averno) outfits underneath, throwing the old Infernales clothes in Satanico's face. Even the masks go for plain ones, with Satanico being stomped for emphasized. They're breaking apart from Satanico, though it takes a scissors to cut off the pants and Alan Stone probably should've waited till Mephisto had no scissors before attacking him from behind, but we go to break before seeing what comes of that.

Picking up seconds after we left, Mephisto does manage to get the scissors out of the ring before brawling with Alan to start the two fall. Mep wins the chop battle with Alan and throws him out, as the other two stomp Satanico. Azteca is outside the ring, recovering. Mep yells at the crowd, then waits till Satanico is held in place before striking. Crowd shot. Satanico is still being worked over when we come back, but now being choked in held in the corner by Mep. Corner whip, Ark corner elbow, Averno corner clothesline. Mep with a whip, reversed, Satanico back elbow! Right for Averno, right for Arkangel and the comeback is on. Azteca runs out of his way around the ring to get in a few more strikes for Arkangel. Alan Stone posts Averno on the outside. Satanico pulls Mephisto around the ring. Mep is isolated in the ring - double whip, double backdrop, and Alan adds the dropkick. Averno in and trying the 1 on 3 strike assault - that works until he charges into an Alan backdrop. Averno lands on the apron, but takes a forearm there, and gets held for a double shoulderblock that knocks him to the floor. Ark's turn to take the beatdown. Backdrop by Satanico, laughable dropkick by Azteca that the camera angle saves, 'rana that's not much better one two three (2:37) Azteca is thrilled to get his pin back. ex-Infernales think about running in but decide to take a break. Azteca does not, attacking Ark and ripping at the mask again. Replay of Ark putting himself through the 'rana.

Fans are booing something we don't see as we start fall three. In the ring, the beatdown goes on Arkangel, who's face is 90% exposed in one shot. CLIP. Averno with a whip, reversed by Satanico and he drops Averno with a spinebuster. Kneeling surfboard, but Ark is in to break it up. Stomp for Satanico. Satanico reaches his arm up in pain, and Ark puts an armbar on it. Azteca is in to break that up, but Ark sees him coming, blocks the kick and chest slaps back. Chest slap fight. Azteca with a shoulderblock, off the ropes but he's met with a rolling back angle. Ark tope! Almost too far to the side. Alan's running now - tope, but he just nicks Arkangel and keeps on flying past into the seats! Ark sells the impact and falls down a second later, which makes it look worse. I guess Ark wasn't ready for the dive yet but he turned his shoulder toward Alan and got out of the way - not good. Referee is out to check on Alan (he ended up turning over and landing on his tailbone.) Ark picks him up for the next dive, but it look Alan moves out of the way a lot before Averno hits his somersault tope. Mephisto and Satanico left in the ring, and the fans have their favorites. Mep charges, clothesline misses and he takes a backdrop. Satanico off the ropes, elbow drop, cover one two NO. Satanico with a fireman's carry gutbuster! He is quite good. Whip, spinebuster to set up the standing figure four pin, one - Averno slips in, and low blows uppercuts Satanico from behind! Refs were checking on Alan and checking the shoulders and don't know what happened. Mep covers one two three. (2:30) Averno and Mephisto are ecstatic to triumphant over their former maestro. Ark angel celebrates with what's left his mask (not much.) I think Ark said they were Los Nuevos - I'd like that to be true so I can have a name shorter than "Averno & Mephisto", because I don't think we've seen the last of this team or this feud. Replays - Ark's dive, Alan's ill fated dive, Satanico with the great gutbuster, and Averno's low blow - back and forth to argue about it being a low blow.

Stellar Moments:
La Llave: Olimpico with a bodyscissors into a small package to beat Mini Pierroth - this might have been the Mini title win.
El Lance: Tigre Blanco with a suicide somersault senton from inside the ring to the floor on Hooligan
Lo Espectacular: Zumbido with a nice top rope moonsault.
El Tecncio: Zumbdio takes the knee bump to the floor and Volador flattens him with the top rope Asai Moonsault
Lo Doloroso: Felino gives Crazy a corkscrew headscissors from the apron to the floor.

Vignette: In the basement of evil, the Mysterious Man In Black congratulated Universo on a job well down against Pierroth. Mascara recaps for us all. Was Silva in on a plan to cost Pierroth the match? Not sure. Man In Black says it's time to get on to the supreme plan. Whatever that is.

2 Perro Aguayo Jr., Pierroth Jr. (c), Ultimo Guerrero vs L.A. Park, Rayo de Jalisco, Universo 2000 (c)
12/12/03, Arena Mexico
80
1 trios 1:43 Pierroth senton Universo Park was great, but most of the rest wasn't.
2 2:42
2:42
Rayo kneeling headbutts Rayo
Park stardust thesz press Ultimo
3 3:43
3:49
Pierroth low blow uppercut Park
Perro inside cradle Universo
T 8:13 Rudos (2-1)

Notes: Pierroth is quite bald. But he's not going to let it keep him down. Ultimo with quite the derisive gesture to the crowd. Pierroth makes a bee line to the announcers booth, as we push this Dr. Alfonso Morales/Pierroth issue. Morales wants no part of it, and nothing comes of it. Pierroth has something to say! I think he call them all dogs. Or fans of Aguayo. Rayo's got a nice red coat since we last saw him. This is one of those matches that could go either way but I wouldn't bet on it. The former La Parka has the greatest ring wear outfit, but does not come out to Thriller. He's got chains and a skeleton head and it's very very good. Park gets funky while waiting for Universo. Universo is doing the orange thing. Pierroth sneaks all the way around to hit Universo in the back with a belt, and the blow is SO devastating, Universo doesn't sell the first one. The follow up ones do work better. Rayo takes one right across the chest that doesn't look fun.

While the other four brawl on the apron, Ultimo wisely stays in the ring with the best opponent. Not that he's in a hurry to wrestle or anything. Odd that Perro seems to be seeking out Rayo Jr., but I guess there's not enough Universo for both. Ultimo does manage a clothesline on Park. Pierroth gives Universo a belt-clothesline, and Parka takes a shot. Which could be worse if he wasn't wearing the skeleton outfit. Pierroth chokes Universo in the middle rope, with Nazi helping out by pulling his arms from the outside. Nazi doesn't seem to be concerned when she gets caught. The other four brawl out into the crowd. Ultimo brings Parka back for a nice looking post shot. Pierroth drags Universo around with a belt around his neck for fun. Pierroth with a clothesline and senton for Universo, and that should do it. One two three. (1:43) Beatdown goes on. Perro beats up on Parka a bit, leading to an Ultimo swinging dropkick to knock Park down. Replays - watch as Universo falls down before he gets hit by the clothesline in slow motion! I think they over use slow motion.

On and on and on. Ultimo confuses this with wrestling, giving Rayo a corner whip and a clothesline. And another. And a third. Crowd shot. I hope they don't clip out the comeback. They apparently did, because everyone but Ultimo and Park are in their corners. Crowd chants "PARKA" and he acknowledges the chant. Chest slap battle. Parka off the ropes, springboard cross body goes wrong somehow and both guys end up on their feet. Wacky but good reversal sequence leads to the Ultimo/Shocker lever reversal spot and a Park armdrag. If this wasn't on pace to be such a forgettable match, I'd walked through it. Best thing here so far. Park with a fine second rope headscissors, and thru the ropes plancha armdrag on Ultimo. Park comes back in to pose. It's gonna be fun having him around. Just to kill whatever goodwill I just built up, we move on to a Universo/Pierroth sequence. Universo gets the best of everything, till he tries for a hairpull faceslam, and Pierroth has no hair to pull. Pierroth is so proud of himself till he gets wapped on the back of the head. They blow a mask pull trip second later. Nazi takes the swinging dropkick, and Universo topes Pierroth to take them both out of the fall. All four others in. Rayo and Park are whipped into each other, stunning them. Rayo retreats to the corner, Park is whipped into him, Rayo backdrops his partner to the apron and avoids both charges, Aguayo clotheslining his partner in the process. Reverse tope and kneeling headbutts from Rayo, Park with a wild looking moonsault into a somersault Thesz press (the old flying body attack!) one two three (2:42) Tied up. Crowd chants for Parka again. Park seems very enthused that they remember him, even if they're not using the right name. Replays.

Ultimo looks for cheers and is disappointed to get boos. Rayo gets cheers. Ultimo gets boos. Rayo gets - CLIP! Best Rayo ever. Park with a snap mare and a running elbow to the chest for Pierroth, one two no. Corner whip? No, chop first. Now a corner whip, and Park follows with a second rope kick to chest. Pierroth stumbles out of the corner, and Park kicks him in the back to knock him down. Now that he's down, Park comes of the ropes to finish him with a dropkick to the head. Aguayo in, Park sidesteps a charge and powerslams him on the next pass one two no. Aguayo finger points that he's not done yet. Crowd chanting for Park again - we miss whatever move he did, but it's just another two count. Calling for a sitting 2nd rope swinging DDT, but Aguayo escapes, off the ropes, big clothesline to take Park out. Aguayo to the apron - shot for Rayo, then the apron dive Thesz Press to take out Park. Rayo and Ultimo in - Rayo off the ropes, right into a backdrop. Ultimo tries a clothesline, but it's caught and turned into a crucifix roll up one tow no. Rayo with a hard slap to the head, whip, head down too soon so Ultimo grabs him into a small package one two no. Ultimo with a corner whip, Rayo to the second rope and catches Ultimo as he runs in (and comes to a stop and ducks) in a sunset flip one two no. Ray off the ropes, but stopped with a chop. Chest slap back and forth, Ultimo misses a clothesline and Rayo clotheslines him out. Rayo going all the way up - top rope fat plancha! Universo back elbows Pierroth down in the ring, but Perro is on him before he can do any more. Perro untying the mask, as Pierroth helps. Just as it seems like Pierroth's going to even the score from lat week, Universo desperately fights out. Park in - climb up enziguri for Aguayo! Pierroth with a sunset flip, Park rolls through and starts walking towards Pierroth for a follow up blow, but Pierroth sneaks in a low blow uppercut. Ref doesn't notice - one two three. (3:43) Perro's pinning Universo and I bet he grabbed the mask, though we have a really bad angle of it - one two three (3:49) Rudos triumphant. Doctor checks on Ultimo on the outside, because he had a large man land on him and that's never good. Replays - Perro's dive, Rayo's dive (maybe Ultimo hurt his right elbow?), Pierroth's low blow, Park's nice kick combo on Pierroth, another angle of the low blow. Looks like it was an inside cradle on Universo, and maybe the mask didn't get pulled but the tights did? We never get an angle of that pinfall.

Next Week: Rayo, Vampiro, Perro Aguayo Jr, Pierroth, Ricky Marvin, Super Crazy, Averno, Mephisto, Atlantis and much much more, from Arena Coliseo.

Rayo's cutting a promo, Aguayo's going after Park's mask and covering him with a sign - I have no idea what's going on. Here's a replay of Park's climb up enziguri, taking us all the way through the low blow. Announcers still can't agree that was a low blow, but it was a pretty blatant one.

Rating: Bases on the quality of the finish, ring work, internal/external storyline, consistency and my whims. Also, various other (random) factors that I can't think of right now. 0-100 for matches.

Breakdowns: 2 Matches (16:46) about 25.8% of showtime (65:00);
Average Match Rating 70
Overall Match Rating: 2

Turns: Averno and Mephisto have stripped themselves with any connection to Satanico, literally
L.A. ParK enters as a tecnico.
Show Assessment: Nice to see Park's debut, but not much else here.

Closing Notes:

1. Park's a fine addition to the roster. Wasn't sure what we were going to get after such a long time without seeing him, but he's seemed really good here.
2. I like the whole ripping off their gear to start new bit from Mephisto and Averno. Though it's gonna be tough to remember which is which.
3. Let Pierroth/Universo die.
4. This is the last Arena Mexico show before the winter break. You can tell just because they set up returns and feuds to get people to Arena Coliseo.
5. Where did all the time go this week? In between match stuff, I guess. Lots of commercials.
