Rocky II

Quiet. Too quiet. Good thing about doing stuff on Saturday and Sunday is I’m not denying the world of interesting lucha bits too much.

12/02 Arena Mexico Results (O’Campo)
1) Pierrothito, Espectrito, Mini Violencia b Tsuki, Shockercito, Mini Olimpico
2) Dr. X, Nitro, Hooligan b Volador Jr., Felino, Safari [non-title]
* This sets up the title rematch
3) Pierroth, Vampiro, Perro Aguayo b Cien Caras, Universo 2000, Apolo Dantes
4) Ultimo Dragon, LA Park, Black Warrior b Hector Garza, Tarzan Boy, Terrible
* If Ultimo wasn’t supposed to be done Real Soon Now, this would seem to set up a program
5) Canek b Dr. Wagner Jr. (2 falls)

12/09 Arena Mexico Card
1) Tigre Blanco, Texano Jr., Chris Stone vs Maximo, Ramstein, Koreano
2) Felino, Volador Jr., Safari vs Dr. X, Nitro, Hooligan
* Why bother doing this match when you know you’re doing again next week? I’m guessing the winner here loses in the title match.
3) Virus vs Havana Brother I (Rocky Romero) for the CMLL Super Lightweight Title
* Romero showed up as part of an Arena Coliseo tag team tournament a couple weeks ago. This match is pretty random, but should be cool. Virus has defended the belt at least once in Guadalajara, but it’s been kinda quiet since then; the idea to for creating this title seemed to be to get younger/less important guys attention, but it got transferred to the Mexician Trios Titles instead.
4) Universo 2000, Cien Caras, Mascara 2000 vs Pierroth, Vampiro, Hijo de Pierroth
* Your “Reyes Brothers together for the last time in Arena Mexico” match.
5) Santo/Ultimo Dragon/Mistico vs Olimpico/Rey Bucanero/Ultimo Guerrero
* That could be a good match, yes.

Translate This: via google, I’ve got this semi-comprehensible newsbit from CMLL.com

Saturdays 25 of December and 01 of January of the 2005 will project through channel 9 of Galavisión, and in the customary schedule of the transmission of the events of the Mexico Sand two special editions of everything what it was not seen in the 2004 of the World-wide Council of Free Fight, we will have the opportunity there to see great battles that were not transmitted by television.

“Everything what it was not seen in” – the range of possibilities of what that COULD mean strain my brain. A 14 hour CMLL Marathon to catch us up is the best crackpot idea I’ve had, but that has no possibility of happening. It’s funny to pretend it does.

It’ll probably be either

– matches from Anniversary which weren’t shown in Mexico still won’t be show in Mexico, but since the US people didn’t really have a chance to go to Arena Mexico and see, say, Rayo vs Universo vs Canek vs Wagner, they’ll be happy to give it to us as a X-Mas present.

– Gala skipping parts of the backlog, and showing other parts in effort quickly catch up. My idea all along is they should air at least two and maybe three episodes a week till they got caught up (Saturday afternoon, Sunday overnight, and Sunday afternoon all being *new* shows, then reshow those episodes on Sunday overnight or Sunday afternoon in case someone missed one.) Randomly skipping around is the heart and soul of CMLL on Galavision, so this is the safe assumption.

– A “Best Of” show. A credible idea for a promotion that spends decent money on post-production; inconceivable for CMLL. It’d be neato if they did.

Box Y Lucha Year End Awards (voted on by their message board, I believe)

Best Tecnico: LA Park
Best Extreme Wrestler: Damian 666
Best Mini: Pierrothito
Best Female Wrestler: Princess Sugey
Best Trio: GdI
Best Tag Team: GdI
Best Rudo: Dr. Wagner Jr.
Best Foreigner: Chris Benoit
Best Match: LA Park vs El Dandy for the Mex Middleweight Title (ENSEMA)
Best Promotion: CMLL
Best Novice: Mistico

Other Notes: Okumura, who’s been far more a presence on the live shows than television, will be heading back to Japan from 1/29 to 02/13.

CMLL will be holding two special shows on 12/25 and 01/01 in Arena Coliseo; I’m guessing they’re instead of the normal Friday shows.

As a quicky blow off to their quicky feud, Canek faces Rayo de Jalisco this Sunday (12/12) at Arena Coliseo. The undercard has an Atlantis vs Mascara Ano 2000 match.

There was a story on Ovaciones yesterday about the commission allowing everyone on a Cien Caras farewell card to wear their masks, even if they’ve once lost them. But of course Ovaciones only keeps things up one day, and I can’t remember the date now.

AAA: Cibernetico and La Parka (AAA) were to put aside their differences to fight the outside menaces of Konnan and Rikishi. Cibernetico, being a rudo, opted just to turn on Parka. Konnan’s 1-0 in AAA!

  1. Are you sure they don’t mean the shows taped on the 25th and 1st will not be airing on TV so fans have to come see them live?
