07/21 news

The Big News: Your Leyenda de Plata 2004 semi-finalist are Atlantis and Perro Aguayo Jr. Negro Casas was the final one out, following a Perro Aguayo low blow.

What I found fun was whoever wrote the bit for .com to set up the match this week actually remembered their Tohoku Jr. title match this past winter, the peak of Aguayo’s last (and aborted) rudo turn.

I’d strongly assume Aguayo gets his win back, because you end up with Perro taking on his arch rival’s brother.

AAA Followup: No one showed up. Not sure why. So never mind.

No Way: the .com also suggests that after years of Rayo challenging Universo to mask matches and Universo ducking them, Universo’s challeneged Rayo (following a win in the main event) and it could happen this very September. This is strongly in the I Believe When I See It category.

Lineup:

– Mr. Power, Neutron, Brazo de Oro Jr. vs Ramstein, Lobo Vikingo, Caligula
– Volador Jr, Misterioso Jr, Mistico vs Nitro, Nosawa, Sangre Azteca
– Park/Niebla/Satanico vs Garza/Bucanero
– Canek/Rayo/Warrior vs Wagner/Univeso/Apolo [non]
– Atlantis vs Hijo del Perro Aguayo [LdP semi]

Ricky Marvin: There’s a short phone interview with him up on Box Y Lucha, where talks a little bit about wrestling for NOAH and people talking about Zumbido.

Super Astro: If you can chat in Spanish, you can talk to him on 9/2 @ box y lucha.

Still looking for Averno/Mephisto vs Atlantis/Blue Panther results; I’d be surprised if there was a title change, but I guess you never know.

More AAA departures?

Over in LuchaWorld, it sounds likes Latin Lover has either left or about to leave AAA and may show up in Arena Mexico this week. Abismo Negro may follow.

Abismo and Aguila are supposed to be on NWA-TNA PPV next week. Garza hasn’t been back there since he left for CMLL.

5. Super Libre: Averno/Mephisto/Pierroth Jr. beat Atlantis/Blue Panther/Satanico – Averno & Mephisto challenged Atlantis & BP to a CMLL Tag Titles match next week and it was accepted.

There’s like a 2% chance that match makes TV and I’m distraught about it. This idea of Atlantis and Panther finding every non-ancient rudo tag team they can and defending the belts against them delights me though. I’m thinking we’ve got to get something like Olimpico and Violencia next.

Lucha Times

Quick note: Lucha Times is updated: normal times – what happened to all the soccer? It’s been a predictable summer, not that I mind.

The one cavate is last week’s Vuelta/Sunday is listed as the wrong show. It was actually #108, and I’ll update that as soon as I get back to the computer where I already did the grunt work. Picking that episode to air is completely out of any semblence of order or logic I can figure, so what I’ve got listed for this Sunday is a complete prediction.

Suggestion if Galavision happens to stumble on this via Google: You guys never aired the following week of TV (#109). Or you could actually air the current stuff, as shockingly relevant that’d be.

I haven’t seen any tape/show listing for #146 and beyond, so that’s all guesses on what’ll air. My hope is someone has the sense to put on one to two complete matches rather than two to three badly clipped ones, but that goes against usual practice.

I may give up recapping if I find out we’re not getting Panther/Atlantis vs GdI. I know, you could hardly tell at this point.

Something to read: There is/was a DVDVR discussion about Casas/Santo matches, with somehow ending up including a “how did AAA split from CMLL and PromoAzteca split from AAA” post.

US Lucha: One of the recent Observers had an update on the Atlanta/Carolina lucha shows, but I don’t have it in front of me right now. If I can remember correctly, they were happy with one of the Carolina shows and not happy with the other, and Atlanta was down but it was a lesser main event. There plan is to run again in October, and they’re thinking about running some shows in the southwest.

07/13 news

The Big News: Canek, Rayo de Jalisco and Black Warrior are your new trios champions, beating Dr. Wagner Jr, Black Tiger and Universo 2000. Looks Canek got a deciding pin on Wagner (while Warriro did the same to Black Tiger), so they’re still going to kill each other.

Other Notes: Aguayo turned on Casas yet again, so I guess that answers that. For more fun, Vampiro showed up to pester Mr. Niebla, with clear indiciations of a CMLL Heavyweight Title match, if they remember this when he’s healthy.

LA Park’s team won in the tercera, but he hurt his leg in the process and had to be helped to the back. The Violencia/Sangre Azteca/Arkangel vs Mistico/Misterosio/Volador match was said to the bestof the night.

Leyenda de Plata Cibernetico: The complete lineup is

  • Negro Casas
  • Atlantis
  • Mistico
  • Misterioso
  • Black Warrior
  • Volador Jr.
  • Alan Stone
  • Tarzan Boy
  • Satanico
  • Mascara Magica
  • Hijo del Perro Aguayo
  • Emilio Charles Jr.
  • Super Crazy
  • Averno
  • Mephisto

They’re slightly angling this as a generation vs generation thing. I wonder if Magica and Alan will remember they’re supposedly in the same group.

I like Perro Aguayo Jr. and Negro Casas here, but these things are always a toss up.

Related: El Hijo Del Santo’s return (one shot?) is timed for him to be on hand for the eventual final on 7/30.

This Week in Arena Mexico

– Rayo de Jalisco, Shocker, Blue Panther vs Universo 2000, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero
– Leyenda de Plata Cibernetico
– Lightning Match: Sombra de Plata vs Sangre Azteca
– Zeta Y Mano Negra Jr. vs Ramstein Y Flecha

Besides the usual issues in the main event (Rayo vs Universo, Ultimo/Rey vs Panther over the tag titles, Ultimo vs Shocker), the hype adds Rey wants Shocker’s NWA LH Title.

Elsewhere: This past Sunday, in Arena Solidaridad, Volador Jr. turned on tecnico parters Black Warrior and Diluvio Negro II. Wonder if that’ll carry over.

Went over tonight’s Arena Coliseo’s show last time. Thier Sunday show is a partial rematch – Shocker, Canek and Black Warrior vs Universo 2000, Black Tiger and Okumara.

Don’t see lineups for anything else up yet.
