04/07 news

The kid is the host of Toma Libre, which airs before or after the late night rerun and always gets two billion commericals during lucha. I marked out for the cameo, then sought professional help.

The Tohoku title had passed up half the CMLL titles in importance via noteworthy defenses, so it’s sad to see it go.

NEWS

Two weeks ago, Terrible busted open Shocker in the process of turning on his buddies. Last week, he completed the double by making Mascara Magica bleed but Magica beat him to win the trios match – so they’ll be meeting this week in a singles match. There’s already been hair/hair challenges thrown around and you gotta figure that’s where this one is headed long term, just not this week.

In a repeat – or a pattern? – the Guapos/Canek vs GdI/Terrible match again didn’t make TV. Maybe it’s some deal with Canek? Not sure.

Vampiro’s back in town, his first apperance after walking out of a NWA LH Title defense vs Black Warrior, fighting half the lockerroom in the process. So who do you team with when everyone else hates you? Pierroth and Tarzan, of course. They’re pushing that Warrior is only working with tecnicos but not one himself.

Super Comando pulled off Star Boy’s mask last week, which is why the rematch.

Arena Coliseo’s Guapo U match of the week was Texano Jr/Brazo de Oro Jr./Brazo de Plato Jr. vs Maximo/Lobo Vikingo/Koreano. Sunday, they’re having an eight team tag tournament: Atlantis/Blue Panther vs Brazy de Oro/Ringo, Emilio/Scorpio, Violencia/Averno, Super Parka/Angel Azteca, Shocker/Olimpico, Mascara2K/Mexico, Arkangel/Nitro.

Arena Puebla had Ultimo vs Lizmark Jr. for the CMLL LH Title this past Monday night. Haven’t seen a result yet.

Tonight, Arena Coliseo de Acapulco’s top two matches are Villano IV/Villano V (c) vs Emilio/Scorpio for the UWA Tag Team titles, and Black Tiger/Universo 2K/Wagner Jr. vs Atlantis/Blue Panther/Hijo del Lizmark for the CMLL Trios titles.

Edit: Ovaciones indicated that Mepshito will defend Volador Jr. this Sunday but doesn’t say where. Since Coliseo’s lineup is posted, it’s likely the non-updated Guadalajara card. Hope that tape shows up with Alfredo.

The most intersting match last week involving a CMLL guy and an ex-one didn’t happen in CMLL ring; in a special bonus match, Antifaz del Norte defeated Damien 666 in the first post-intermission match on the WWE in Monterry card. Probably partly trying to fit in with the expected style, but I think it was a tryout for Antifaz as well. The one report I read/translated seemed to say that the fans gave the match a hard time because it wasn’t the style of wrestling they were there to see.

I think Antifaz sure has the look WWE likes, but Lizmark Jr. would make a far better WWE wrestler. But I’ve had that thought stuck in my head so long, I dunno if it still makes sense.

  1. *ASTRO* Boy. Geez, you’re as bad as most people in Mexico with the no-respect for the undercarders.:P

I think Volador Jr./Mephisto is at Coliseo. They always switch the lineup for that show mid-week. You should definitely get some Guadalajara stuff…really enjoyable openers and sometimes the main can be great depending who’s in it.

  2. Maybe Cubs can buy some tapes with his tax refund.

Where can one track down some Guadalajara stuff?

  3. Fredo has a bunch of Guadalajara. I’m usually a few weeks ahead of him but he gets everything I have eventually and I would never steal business from Fredo b/c he rules. If you wanna know what to pick up, I could offer some suggestions on the better shows. Pretty much if you see an opening six man tag with guys you don’t recognize… get it. The locals there are great. If the opener is a mix of CMLL guys with talent and locals, the match is usually average at best. If the opener is CMLL guys who suck on Galavision, they still suck on Televisa so avoid it.:P The main events are usually awful(but not always…see: Bucanero/Atlantis, Niebla/Olimpico/Charro vs Ultimo/Emilio/Bucanero) but even though it’s just brawling with the lazy guys like Rayo, Dr. Muerte, Mr. Rabia, Sheriff, etc. – the building is LOUD! And most of the time they are building up hair/mask matches so people juice big time. The segments between the matches are always fun as you either get a good interview with a luchador or you see the wrestlers training. It’s weird to see Apolo Dantes conducting interviews with Virus.:\

  4. I read the translation without thinking to check back to see what the actual Spanish name was, d’oh.

Arena Coliseo doesn’t have that Volador/Averno match listed and Guadalajara card still isn’t up, so either Ovaciones is not to be believed or it’s there. Apolo’s been booking the ex-Infernales a lot so I tend to believe.

  5. Yep, you seem to be correct on this one. Volador Jr./Mephisto weren’t even booked on the last Guadalajara show as they are busy building a feud with Arkangel and his brother Torbellino against the tecnicos. Shame… would have liked to see that singles match on television. I have Satanico vs Averno waiting to be watched but something tells me that isn’t going to be so hot.
