Hot Hot Heat

I got to see the Shocker vs. Vampiro hair vs. hair match from last year which I know Homer saw but I don’t think Cubs ever did. It was very good, if too short (no more than 12 minutes for the three falls, although that assumes no clipping). The first noticeable thing that jumped out at you was how hot the crowd was, the kind of heat only lucha crowds can attain. I’ve heard Televisa audio doesn’t do crowd heat justice, and if that’s the case, the crowd heat must’ve been scary live.

Point two: both guys bumped like absolute freaks. That’s not surprising with
Shocker, but Vamp took a nasty German suplex and some wince-inducing bumps to the floor. Plus they punched each other in the face quite a few times. Much more Japanese style than lucha, but that’s certainly not a bad thing.

Vamp takes the first fall with a chokeslam, Shocker takes caida dos with a
Dragon sleeper, and eventually wins the match with a freaky small package.
Vamp gets cueballed to the delight of the crowd. Not a classic, but good stuff.

In what’s becoming a trend, I got the see the first match of this week’s CMLL
again.

Leading off, Negros Casas and Felino chat in the entranceway. They talk for a long time. A loooong time. Then they laugh.

Super Crazy & Mephisto & Averno vs. Satanico & Negro Casas & Felino

Pimera Caida: Don’t the captains come out first? Because Satanico comes out second and he’s apparently the captain. Anyway, the rudos jump at the bell and the beatdown is on. Felino takes a nasty back-first bump to the floor (not as bad as it sounds here, but certainly nothing fun). Satanico gets choked by Averno (I think) and Mephisto adds a wristlock. Isn’t that a tad gratuitous? Felino gets pinned after a powerbomb and Satanico is out after a wacky double arm submission.

Segunda Caida: Tecnicos make a quick comeback. Crazy and Felino work a neat sequence that’s way too short. Crazy tries a top rope ‘rana like an idiot, and of course gets powerbombed for the pin. Casas puts the Casita on someone for some reason even though the fall is over.

At some point the announcers talk to some dude who looks like Kid Kash. No
idea what that was about.

Tercera Caida: Another solid Felino/Crazy exchange that sees them both end up on the outside of the ring. Satanico hits the dreaded backslide on, let’s say Mephisto, which sadly leaves him in perfect position to get kicked in the nuts by Averno behind the ref’s back. The ex-Infernales pile on for the win. Another solid opening match.

No real Observer news, other than Atlantis lost the Tohoku title to the Great Sasuke in Japan recently, so that’s one less title in CMLL right now.
