CMLL Line - 12/06/03 (#105)
Vignette: Pierroth wants us (well, Mexicanos) to come to the show this week to watch him take the mask of Violencia.
Wow, they nearly cut off the hype to go to a break. Must be in a hurry.
1 | Guapos (Shocker (c),
Magica, Terrible) vs Super Porky, Mr. Niebla,
Atlantis (c) 09/12/03, Arena Mexico |
70 | ||||
3 | trios | 3:44 | Shocker hammerlock headscissors cradle Atlantis | fast paced enough but nothing special
T | Guapos (2-1) |
Notes: JIP. Guapos have opted for a silverish-purplse color scheme. Again, we're working the tecnico for the big universe match as rudo here, although the person in charge of the graphics at least gives that it could be tecnico/tecnico. It's really not. B grade level rudo beatdown goes bad on a corner whip, imagine that. Shocker takes the Bronco Buster from Porky. We settle down for Shocker and Atlantis. Taking turns with crowd reactions - Shocker is annoyed they cheered more for Atlantis. Shocker takes the full spin on a shoulderblock, always nice. Atlantis does fine enough that I think I'm tough hard on him. Niebla with a handspring elbow, and teases a dive on Terrible, but really just sets him up for Porky to flatten him. I still think Porky looks bigger. Niebla and Magica almost take enough other out of the ring, but Niebla manages to hang in and hit his tope. Shocker gets ready for his dive, forgetting that Atlantis behind him - tilt-a-whirl, tilt-a-whirl, 'rana is rolled out. Both off the ropes, Atlantis cross body one two NO. Clothesline is blocked, Shocker with a hammerlock headscissors cradle one two three. (3:44) Hey, he won with wrestling! I guess he's not a real rudo! Replays. We going to see Tarzan Boy this week. Shocker hugs the ref? They want the ref to do strut with them but he wants no part of it. Ahh, they're not rudos, they're just mischievous.
Vignette: Volador practices the moonsault! Like he needs to. Ricky Marvin makes a ruckus on his way in with Virus (still has headphones) and gets swatted in the back of the head for it. Volador's getting ready for his title match, but he's worried - Ricky and Virus promise to have his back. And to take care of the whole group, Ricky got them a revenge match on the 19th. So they all need work.
2 | CMLL Super Light Title
Decision Mask (first champion) Rocky Romero (aka Havana Brother I) vs Volador Jr. 09/12/03, Arena Mexico |
87 | ||||
1 | mano y mano | 5:05 | Rocky anklelock | A little short, but fun while it lasted. A worthy enough debut match for this tile.
2 | 1:36 | Volador reverse figure four
3 | 2:27 | Rocky cross arm breaker finish 2 |
||||
T | 9:08 | Rocky (2-1), becomes 1st Champion |
Notes: No entrances, slipping ahead to the face to the face in the ring. We see Ricky in Volador's corner and Bobby Quance in Rocky's. They do spend this match calling him "Ricky Romero."
Circle lockup, in the corner, and a clean break. Lockup, , break. Rocky seemed to want to go for the mask as an advantage there. Lockup, no, Volador uses Rocky's charge to take him down into a fujiwara armbar. Holding it in, but Rocky rolls to a reversal, front facelock. Volador sands up and tries to flip Rocky off of him, but Rocky holds on to him for a sunset flip - one count. Dueling toeholds - Volador gets in his other leg to Rocky's face, giving him the advantage. Up to his feet, and turning the leg over. Kinda of a half turned half crab, as Volador is at the side and now over Rocky's back. Now he gets in the full turn, but Rocky is ready for that and rolls to escape. Half crab of his own is blocked by Volador once, but not twice. Volador's a little bit away from the ropes, but not too far. He grabs onto Rocky's leg to take him down instead. Volador rolls Rocky over and starts to set up a tapita, but Rocky senses it coming and goes to the ropes. Break, both up their feet. Double wristlock test of strength, with their hands cross over each other. Volador gets it the better, but Rocky bridges back and doesn't put his shoulders down. Volador sits on him to put his full weight, but Rocky still manages to bridge up. Volador gets off of him, then drops his weight on him again - Rocky is ready, using Volador's momentum to roll both of them to their effect. Rocky bodyscissors, armdrag out didn't look as smooth as everything else. Another standoff. Volador calls Rocky on, and Rocky goes low - single leg, turning it over of the anklelock and Volador shows the same desperate rush to the ropes as Rocky did when the tapita was teased. Volador doesn't actually get to the ropes, but gets free and we have another standoff. They both wait for the other to make the first move - Volador charges, Rocky, with a trip, zero count, Volador with a trip for zero, Volador hand stands up and we have another standoff as Rocky fixes his pants. Handshake? Yes - but Rocky ends it with a shove. They tease a clip here by showing every single person in the audience via closeup - takes forever. We get just enough to think that maybe it wasn't a clip, but we clearly miss a move or two, since you can hear them and Volador is getting back up when we see him again. Ricky with a slap, off the ropes, right hand is blocked by Volador, and he hits an open hand slap of his own. Slap back, Rocky kick, kick, whip, Rocky off the ropes, over, big running forearm. Rocky's pumped, but not following up. Rocky off the ropes, clothesline misses, Volador leapfrogs over a roll, waves Rocky over the next pass, avoids Rocky's slide on the NEXT pass, tilt-a-whirl but Rocky lands on his feet and pushes Volador towards the ropes, Volador has the decency to hit his move on the first past - spinning headscissors. Volador with a drop toe hold, but La Majistral is shoved off. Rocky would like an anklelock there, but Volador rolls away, and again we have a standoff. Volador's not thinking about another handshake, is he? Rocky tries to surprise him with a high spinning kick, but Volador ducks it and hits a climb up enziguri. Rocky retreats to the corner, Volador charges in, Rocky moves out the wavy, Rocky charges in, Volador moves out of the way. Volador climb up enziguri is ducked, and Rocky finally gets that anklelock on. Volador crawling towards the near ropes but he's got a ways to go - and Rocky pulls him back. Volador makes another charge and hits the rope, but I guess that's not good enough. Rocky pulls him back, and Volador finally gives up. (5:05) For a moment there, they were doing more damage missing moves than hitting them. Rocky and Quance celebrate.
Fall 2 starts with Rocky zooming on the hurting left knee of Volador Junior. Dropkick to the knee, kicks to the knee, just trying to keep Volador grounded. Volador does manage to stand, only to take a kick to a chest. Another kick is caught and the enziguri is ducked, but Rocky manages to do a reverse enziguri (I think) to make contact on his third try. Rocky with an open hand slap. Going to the corner? No, Volador doesn't want to go. Rocky tries the arm scissors takedown into an armbar move, but Volador blocks it and holds him down for a cover one two no. Rocky is up and kicking. Stomp. Stomp. Waiting, kick, corner whip, Rocky off the ropes, rebound clothesline is caught and turned into an armdrag, but Rocky kicks Volador away form following up. Rocky waiting for Volador to get up - this time, the arm scissors works, but Volador blocks the cross armbreaker. Turning it over, Volador gets his feet in the ropes and Rocky is forced to block before getting it on. No problem - anklelock! Volador spins around looking for help and manages to grab onto the bottom rope. Rocky takes all of the five count he can, trying to pull Volador off the ropes but not being successful. Rocky lets go. Kick to eh chest. Volador stood up to get chopped. Whip, no, quick reverse into a forward legsweep cradle, rolling over into reverse figure four! That's new! That's good! (1:36) Someone taking notes when Heat was here? Not the same submission, but it seemed born from a similar idea and reminded me of him. Rolling into a submission move is newest in thing. Both corner people are in to check on their guys - it's down to one fall each, one leg each.
Volador charges at the whistle, but Rocky sees him coming and moves. Kick to the back. Whip, reversed, Volador charges into a boot. Rocky out, with a hard clothesline two no. Rocky seems to be suffering less from leg pain - it's about non existent. Northern Lights suplex, but no bridge - top wristlock instead. Volador fights out of it, and here's that clip I've been fearing - you can hear the sound jump - Volador off the ropes, clothesline stuns Rocky but keeps him from moving anywhere. Volador with a dropkick, and out goes Rocky. Volador off the ropes, charge and right into a jumping kick from Rocky as he gets through the ropes. Corner people are over to check on their men. Volador landing on an apron, so most of the pain was from the kick to the head rather than landing. Rocky ended up back on the floor on that way, but he's in better shape. He rolls in, then pulls Volador in - wait for Volador's feet to get away from the ropes , one two foot on the ropes. Rocky can't believe it. Actually, he should, since he was silly enough to try the pin right near the ropes. Rocky with the armscissors again, but Volador is ready this time - blocked, powerbomb. Volador collapses on him to cover one two NO. Volador points as Quance? No, the corner! He's going up! Bottom rope, middle rope, much to slow and Rocky is up to slap him. Rocky jumping up - arm scissors takedown off the top rope (off Volador's knees as he sits on the top turnbuckle) into the cross armbreaker! He's DONE! (2:27) Rocky Romero is celebrating, for his is your first ever CMLL Super Liegro Champion. We hang around to see the new belt - looks spiffy. He's announced as Havana Brother I. Replay of the finish - when normal moves don't work, you always go for the the higher variety. Volador and Rocky do shake hands post match. Rocky's got the belt.
Stellar Moments
La Impresionante: triple sliding corner dropkick to the face of Psicdelico
Junior.
La Plancha: Super Porky with a top rope splash on to some very unfortunate
people.
El Tecncio: In the SL Cibernetico, Sombre de Plata reversed a F5 from Tigre de
Blanco into a super spinning armdrag.
La Llave: elsewhere in that match, Rocky's armscissors into a cross armbreaker
took out Virus.
Lo Dolorso: Challengers to be flip out Ultimo Guerra with a double dropkick to
the knee.
Vignette: Backstage, the non-Sadam/Pierroth Boricuas discuss the mask/hair match. They must've said something that annoys Pierroth (like a suggestion that he could lose) because he hears them and comes in yelling. Pierroth will not lose. Now go march.
3 | Pierroth Jr.
(c), Black Tiger, Super Crazy vs Violencia,
GdI (Ultimo Guerrero (c), Rey Bucanero) 09/12/03, Arena Mexico |
75 | ||||
1 | trios | 2:12 | Violencia small package Pierroth | Stronger match to set this up than previous encounters. No one really believes Violecnia is going to win, but you want him to
2 | 3:26 3:32 |
Guerrero special Crazy Bucanero STF Tiger |
||||
T | 6:44 | Violencia (2-1) |
Notes: I don't know who the tecnicos are any more. Especially seeing as Tarzan Boy has been seen on the same side as these Pierroth and Tiger multiple times, but they're fighting his boys. Pierroth talks over Black Tiger's entrance. And Super Crazy made one of those non existent rudo turns. Pierroth hides under the steps to ambush Violencia, and it works again. Rey's got his puffy shirt? Okay. Brawl backs out to start, and the "foreign" team beats the home one to start.
Normal brawl. Boricuas get in a few shots as they leave. Rey doesn't seem to want to go over on a clothesline from the apron to the ring, but Crazy eventually gets him to go in. Violencia is safely pushed out of the ring, and gets his vest off. Rey is stuck alone in the ring - oh no, Black Tiger is ripping his puffy shirt! That's wrong. He's still got i on though - whip, drop toe hold but Super Crazy, Black Tiger hits the 619. Ultimo takes his turn in, and is immediately kicked by Tiger. Corner whip, Pierroth with a corner clothesline, Crazy and Tiger slide out in the at corner, trip Ultimo up and crotch him on the post. Violencia sees the moment to take Pierroth one on one, and they have ave a strike battle. Pierroth goes to fists when it looks to be going bad, and gets the advantage. And now some help - double whip, double back elbow by the other two. Taking a page from Rey and Ultimo's book, Tiger and Crazy help set up Pierroth for the triple faceslam, but leave to go celebrate while Violencia reverses it into a small package, one two three. (2:12) Rey's too busy attacking Crazy to realize that worked for him for once. Pierroth can't believe that didn't work. Ultimo - Ultimo's wearing a non-matching mask this week, odd. I guess silver because he's a tecnico? Replays of the finish.
Fall two starts off with the main combatants, and Pierroth open hand slapPing Violencia. Corner whip is reversed, and Violencia lands a clothesline. Pierroth acts tired/out of breath, and he's quite good at looking that way. It almost looks real! Whip, reversed, Violencia manages a armdrag anyway. Shoulderblock, winding up, shoulderblock, dropkick and Pierroth is knocked out of the ring. Violencia after him, but Pierroth covers up - so Violencia goes to celebrate with the crowd. No more? No more. Pierroth and Black Tiger. Hmmm. This week, Ultimo is telling the rabid tecnico fans to cheer, how odd. Ultimo lands a back elbow first. Whip, leapfrog, but Tiger up with a shoulderblock. Tiger off the ropes, backing into a double boot from Ultimo but using it to flip over Ultimo, and back with a wheel kick as Ultimo gets up. Tiger taunt. Whip, reversed right into a knee from Rey on the apron. Slingshot stunner! Best looking one yet, but Rey doesn't get to celebrate before Crazy's dropkicked him in the face. Crazy has a plan - whip Tiger at GdI. GdI have a plan - spear 'em. Spears win. Rey tries to pound Tiger, but Tiger kicks him off and out of the ring. Ultimo is too tired to follow up. Tiger running - but the double jump plancha is broken up by Ultimo, who pushes Tiger off the buckle and out of the ring. Crazy charges Ultimo, but Ultimo spots him and tosses him into the top turnbuckle. Ultimo CHARGES not, but Crazy moves and Ultimo takes the knee bump to the floor. Crazy springboard - no, Rey times a springboard to forearm Crazy on the way up! That's smooth. Now they're all down on the floor, and we're back to Violencia and Pierroth. Open hand slap. Open hand slap. Chop. Open hand slap. Punch, chop, punch (all by Pierroth.) Violencia open hand slap, Pierroth's punch is ducked, Violencia slap, Pierroth's punch misses, Violencia's slap does not. Yell from Violencia, shoulderblock, off the ropes - no, into La Nazi, who's jumped on to the apron to grab Violencia. Pierroth tries a big punch, but Violencia ducks and Nazi takes on the chin. Violencia dropkicks Pierroth (who goes in, and then through the ropes), and sets up on the apron - somersault bodyblock apron dive! (Pierroth made no attempt at catching him there, just allowed himself to be run into. Worked out because Violencia lands on his back on the move, but looked unsafe - perhaps I've just I'm looking for this from Pierroth, because I'm not sure of a better way to do it for that particular move.) Back in the ring, Ultimo misses a corner charge on Crazy, Crazy charges but is backdropped to the apron, Ultimo tries and misses a clothesline, Crazy hits his. Crazy quick jump to the second rope - quebrada! Crazy takes time pose for the camera, and then slams Ultimo as a set up for a top rope dive. Meanwhile, Tiger sees Rey back in and charges, but Rey drop toe holds him straight into the middle buckle. Ultimo is back up, Rey charges, and Ultimo springboards Rey up into Crazy for a - actually, while it sure seemed like a set up to something (Crazy taking a crazy dropkick to the floor? best I could tell by positioning, although Rey seemed more in tune to landing on the buckle just behind Crazy), Rey just ends up colliding right into Crazy. Quickly (but obviously) covering, Rey goes back over towards Tiger while Ultimo takes his usual place on the top rope behind his victim - Guerrero Special! Rey with a super (of some sort) face first powerbomb. Ultimo gets his one two three (3:26) and Rey gets an STF tap out (3:32) before Pierroth can make the save - actually, he kinda gave up after the first PINFALL. Rey celebrates with the ring side people. hey, the tecnico fans have Ultimo Guerrero masks this week They must've seen the poster. Break.
Next Week: It's the 70th Anniversary Show!
Hair vs Hair: Shocker vs Tarzan Boy
Mask vs Hair: Violencia vs Pierroth
CMLL Tag Team Titles: Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero (c) vs Hijo de Perro
Aguayo and Negro Casas
And much more
Back to ringside, where we get replays of the match. Sounds like Violencia is promising victory or something for next week. His side did win in straight falls. We get a better look at Rey's move - it wasn't as much super as the same principle of pulling someone off the ropes for a crucifix bomb - it's an easier start but the finish is much the same.
And right into AAA with no break? That's quick. What up Juvi

Closing Notes:
1. I wonder if the main was a test run or genesis idea for the (yet to debuted as a write this) Foreign Alliance - which ever outsiders (or people pretending to be outsiders) are in that week are allied with Pierroth, without having to do a Puerto Rician group with just one Puerto Rician.
2. Pierroth matches are better when the other four guys aren't the Capos and/or other annoying rudos! What do you know!
3. Title match was good and fitting of a new title but not spectacularly good. Still think they might have been better just reusing a title or creating a trios one rather than making another one they won't really use.
4. At least this week, the final one before the show, someone fought someone who will be fighting next week.
