CMLL Line - 09/07/03 (#93)

In Other Action: They don't subtitle it as such, but it works that way. Fray Tormenta, an older luchador wearing a priest color whom I'm not familiar with, helps introduce us to Sagrado. This is Sagrado's Arena Mexico's debut, and he's happy to be here. Sagrado's mask is white with a silver (or sometimes red) cross - straight down the middle and across the eyeballs - though more square the normal cross, I think he eyelids are made up to match. Sagrado means "sacred" according to the Spanish dictionaries I checked. This seems to be a priest/monk religious gimmick, obviously. I'll mention one more time that Sagrado is former Guapo U participant Genetico, and then not mention it every week. We get no match (although Black Warrior was wandering into the frame at random times) going to break instead.

Miguel and Leobardo hype up the next match, which is supposed to be the Mexican Trios Title Match - FdT vs Infernales - a rematch from last week. They don't give away that anything strange is up.

Notes: This is supposed to be FdT vs the Infernales for the held up Mexican Nation Trios Titles, but...

We cut to post entrances - Halloween is explaining to the Commissioner that Nicho's plane didn't make it here tonight. Well, if I translated better, I'm sure we'd get that it was late, not that it disappeared over the Bermuda Triangle, but you get the idea. Commissioner talks it over with the referees and the ring announcer. Damien and Halloween are wearing CMLL shirts - except they drew a big X through the logo. Ring announcer says that Halloween says Nicho isn't going to be here, so Familia de Tijuana forfeits the title match, and the titles go to Los Infernales. Satanico is actually not thrilled with this outcome either, as he wants to win the belts, not be given them. Infernales refuse to accept the belts, so they'll be held up instead. Oh, those are FdT specialty shirts with their logo on the back and CMLL's crossed out one on the front. I wonder who paid for those? I guess Nicho can really mean it when he wears those shirts. Anyway, as soon as they announce the title match is off and no one's getting the gold, Halloween and Damien decide to see if they can make it home in time to catch the early Baseball Tonight, but they're yelled at and come back. Halloween tries Plan C - yelling to the back and calling for Violencia. It takes a moment, and a lot yelling of "Friend! Buddy! Partner!" but Violencia does appear. He does the low rider pose to remind us that he was with this duo before Nicho bothered to appear last week. Ring announcer dutiful includes Violencia in the match now, but it appears this will not be for the vacant title - that's for another time. Violencia gets a turn to talk, because everyone else does. He says, to his friend/buddy/partner Halloween, how is that you do the low rider pose so well. Halloween demonstrates - and gets punched in the face! Well, I didn't see that coming - this is now a 4 on 2 and the Tijuana duo aren't doing so well. And then they ring the whistle!

This is really a match, wow. Violencia ends up doing the low rider pose one more time and walking off triumphantly. I have no idea how this works, but I guess we'll see. Infernales with the logical 3 on 2 beatdown. Damien gets cleared out, and Halloween eventually takes a Satanico spinebuster. Satanico sends Mep and Averno to the top for their double opposite top rope move (that I've forgotten because we haven't seen it in forever), but el Terrible shows up and pushes Averno off the top rope! What the heck? The referees remember to be distracted at the last second. Damien pushes Mep off his corner, and Satanico, distracted, takes a small package from Halloween for the pin. (:54) I'd like to repeat my comment - what the heck? Damien and Halloween don't seem clued into the plan and are curious to what Terrible is up to, but are happy for it to have worked. Terrible does the low rider pose? Perhaps he joined the wrong group! I only wonder what Shocker and Magica think of this. Halloween and Damien discuss, and apparently Terrible's low rider pose is strong enough to get him in the group for this week. I'm kinda hoping Terrible turns on them too, just for hilarity's sake, but I don't think that's going to happen. Terrible looks more like Sean O'Haire this week. All the rudos wander back to the ring and start fighting (including the one who isn't in this match - and is wearing street clothes, actually) and a brawl breaks out. Is this fall two? Did this match even happen? Terrible is beating up Mephisto well and good for a second there. I guess this is fall 2 because they're still acting like referees, so here goes.

Mephisto does manage to rally and post Terrible. Averno and Halloween end up being the ones in the ring, going forehead to forehead. Halloween with a shove, Averno off the ropes and back with a shove. Halloween with a slap, it's blocked and Averno hits one of his own on. Averno slap. Halloween slap, slap, chop, crotch chop. Slap, off the ropes, no, Satanico and Mephisto have him, and yank him to the floor by his chest and hard. Averno does something to someone because I can hear the ring shake, but we don't see it - and there's the second ring card girl. Um, someone didn't plan this out very good. There's the whistle, let's try this again.

Terrible, who's wearing jeans and a red shirt, is running the ropes. Triple pump powerbomb to him for showing up, one two three (:17) Damien in, spinebuster for him, everyone lift and grab a hold, and he's done. (:36) Wow, that was sure long. Replays almost last longer than the fall. FdT take a tour of ringside - yelling at the rabid tecnico fans, protesting the title situation to the announcers.

Did they really have to go through all this to get a third fall? FdT have now decided to walk out (again) anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter. Terrible ditched his shirt at some point. Wow, they're coming back. Didn't see that. Okay, Terrible and Mephisto will start. Terrible tells him to bring and, he brings it. Many many many open hand slaps end when Terrible kicks. Whip, head down too soon, Mephisto kicks it. Mephisto does the low rider pose strut! Halloween is horrible offended (because it's a below average job) so Mep chops him off the apron. Mep back to working on Terrible, open hand slaps, corner whip is reversed. Terrible stops to yell before charging, corner splash but no one's home - Terrible takes the headstand bump to the floor (landing on his feet), Mep off the ropes, slingshot somersault plancha. FdT work on the other two Infernales with chops in the ring. Halloween and Damien off the ropes and into stereo backdrops. Stereo 'rana are reversed into stereo powerbombs - FdT put their feet on the ropes, but they kick out anyway, although the simultaneous timing is off. Infernales try for the double bulldog thing, but they get pushed off and past each other into the corner. FdT manage to hit the change partners corner clotheslines this week. Halloween and Damien celebrate, but Mephisto is back in - ducks Halloween clothesline, boot for Damien, Halloween spears him (mostly off camera). Damien sets up Mep for his finisher. Doesn't he always take it? Damien Neckbreaker works, one two three (2:14) Satanico is in but too late. Chops for everyone. Terrible back up to hold Satanico on the apron for Damien. Charge, Satanico moves and Terrible takes a back elbow off the apron. Satanico goes fro the senton dive, but Damien clotheslines him from inside the ring. Infernales are getting counted out because they have no one in the ring. Satanico manages to duck a Halloween clothesline, Terrible taking a move again, but Halloween strikes back with a superkick. Halloween tries to bet back in the ring, but he's clipped on the apron by Averno. Averno on the apron, sidestepping Damien's dropkick and going up - missile dropkick connects one two three! (3:03) Next fall will do it. Unless there's a stick involved. We take a look at the crowd, missing Halloween doing something to Averno - another spear? Halloween now waiting of Averno to get up - kick, fireman's carry, least impressive looking F5 in the history of man (it looked Halloween forget didn't add the neckbreaker part, and Averno went down gently) one Satanico pulls Halloween off. Terrible in and hitting a swinging dropkick to take out Satanico. Terrible picks Halloween up and pumps him up for one more charge. Corner spear on Averno is sidestepped! Big boot for Terrible. Kick, double underhook facebuster! One two THREE! (3:58) Averno won! He's dead tired but he won. Replays.

Vignette: Los Guapos are the most Guapo trio in Mexico. And they’ll be the next champions. Hey, that’d almost explain what Terrible was doing there.

Spectacular Moments
Lo Admirable: Blue Panther slams – no, wait, let’s try that again. Blue Panther slams – no, still not quite there, one more. Blue Panther slams Super Porky, though it took three tries. It did get him a chant.
La Combinacion: Shocker, still in his pimping entrance rob, gives Ultimo Guerrero a top rope superplex. But that’s not all – Terrible (still in his pimping robe) adds a top rope somersault senton (he IS Sean O’Haire!) and Magica (only in his pimping pants) finishes with a top rope splash.
Lo Impresionante: GdI with a really fast double hiptoss into a faceslam into double Fujiwara armbar.
El Tecnico: Rayo Tapito Dos rolls over a dropkick to the knee attempt (let’s hope that’s what he was doing, because it wasn’t close to hitting, yet..) and turns a Super Commando clothesline into a Fujiwara armbar nicely.
Lo Espectacular: Hey, it’s the Volador Jr. Top Rope Asai Moonsault (on to Masada). It’s been a while.
El Lance: Damien and Nicho miss their corner charges, and then Averno kills Halloween with a beautiful somersault tope. This time, they manage to find a shot of Mephisto doing his, but Averno’s dive is great

2 hair vs hair
Pierroth vs Cien Caras
06/20/03, Arena Mexico
55
1 mano y mano 1:42 Rings of Cien no better than the other Pierroth hair matches.
2 2:20 Pierroth figure four
3 2:42 Pierroth low blow
T 6:44 Pierroth (2-1)

Notes: Pierroth's confetti explosion catches Violencia by surprise - he aloo almost gets decked by Sadam hitting him with the flag pole as he swings it around. Pierroth explains he's not losing his hair - he just had it greased! Perhaps I'm making things up. Boricuas this week are Violencia, Sadam, Nitro and Commando Girl II. No midgets for you. Cien Caras has two valets, screamer fireworks, pinwheel fireworks, but no backup. Uh oh, crowd shot

And we're already into the match. Ring Announcer is doing ring introductions, so we must've not missed much but the prematch. Pierroth with an armdrag, whip, clothesline. Sadam and Nitro are leaving, but Violencia is around to be the corner man. As the whistle rings, Pierroth takes off the belt - ah, it's time for the probably should be illegal belt shots. Cien sells them in between trying to take off his chaps. "Ow! I must unsnap this! ow!" Once he has tem off, Cien tries making a comeback, but Pierroth out punches him. Pierroth is wearing camouflage pants, but I still have to watch this. Pierrorth tries a corner charge clothesline, but it's reversed into a knee. Forearm. Turnbuckle smash, forearm. Turnbuckle smash. Third different turnbuckle smash. One more - YES! If only this was some weird strap match variant. Didn't Savio Vega have a Caribbean Strap Match? Yea, that was the whole Austin thing. Cien's fighting the wrong Puerto Rican. Cien clothesline, off the ropes, dropkick to the head is fine enough. Rings of Cien - that'll do it. (1:42) It's disorienting how they're calling Cien by his real name (Carmelo Reyes) only as much as they're calling Cien. Cien would like to spend the in between match time stepping on Pierroth's head, but eventually relents, only to stomp him and almost Doctor when the mood strikes him. Replays.

Previously: That's almost "sweet back of the head music", if Shawn used a guitar as his finisher. Let's watch it break into many pieces in slow motion. Not Shawn's finisher. The guitar.

Pierroth argues that the match should be thrown out and does not want to get in the ring for fall two, but he eventually does. He's just out of Cien’s reach on a swinging dropkick, but Cien doesn't suffer much form the miss and goes on the offense. Pierroth's arm oust be killing him, because he's grabbing it and then Cien is putting his boot into it. I think it's supposed to be the left shoulder, although Cien is sorta working both arms indiscriminately. Now why is he making the "I want the belt motion"? Ah, he meant Pierroth's belt. Who gave it to him? We just see a hand reaching out. Cien goes to town on Pierroth's left side with that belt, but makes the mistake of dropping it for an armbar, which Pierroth turns into a short clothesline. Richard kicks the belt out. Pierroth is slow to follow, and Cien gets an armbar back on. Walking Pierroth into the corner. Corner whip, corner charging back elbow by Cien. Corner whip the other way, and Pierroth side steps the charge. Pierroth with a kick to the leg to slow Cien down. Shoulder. Shoulder. Shoulder. Pierroth lifts up Cien, turns him, and drops him in a spinebuster. Figure four? Yep. That'll do it. (2:20) Pierroth keeps it on for a four count. Pierroth recovers while Violencia and Commando Girl II help him. And then he gets a few more stomps in. Replay.

Third fall. Wow, that ring girl is thing. As Pierroth has Cien in a submission hold around the ropes, and is getting told to break it, Doctor Morales says "One flew - over the cuckoo nest" for no reason I can figure. Pierroth argues with the ref about the enforcement of the rules. Crowd shot. Pierroth is magically face down on the mat when we come back. Cien tries a ground crucifix rollup one two NO. Morales wonders about that count. Cien whip, spinebuster, Cien with a jacknife cover one two no. Small package one two no. These aren't being done with any speed - there's moments between the moves, and they're not being done very quick themselves. Pierroth gets an idea he can do a 'rana - no, powerbomb. Cien crosses the legs and presses down to cover, one two no. I'd like to think no one's getting hyped up yet because they know this can't end without Pierroth trying to massively cheat. Pierroth misses a punch and Cien gets him in abdominal stretch - down to a cradle, one two no. Cien takes a moment to argue the count. Open hand slap. Corner whip, reversed, Pierroth his a corner clothesline. Corner whip, Pierroth charges and hits another clothesline. Open hand slap, open hand slap, open hand slap. Pierroth gestures to Commando Girl, and she hops on the apron - to cut open a top turnbuckle? Okay. Richard is distracted by that. Cien tries a kick, it's caught, and Pierroth nails him with a low blow. Commando Girl has finished her work and is getting down from the apron, so the referee turns around to see Pierroth cover - one two three (2:42) Pierroth crotch chops for out benefit. Thanks for that. Break.

We retun, and so have all the Boricuas. It's hair cutting time. The barber does have his fancy tu on to cut off Cien's hair, Pierorth taunting him the whole way. Barber went to the electric razor awful quick, but there's not much to do there. Pierroth walks off before Cien is even finished. Cien gets up before he's really done, but it's close enough to pose for pictures. Here's a lot of replays because this show is clocking in really short. Why did they cut if they were still this short? Maybe Galavision did it. Even more replays of the finish - the same thing each time, so I don't know why we need to see 'em.

That's it. No Next Time montage.

Rating: Bases on the quality of the finish, ring work, internal/external storyline, consistency and my whims. Also, various other (random) factors that I can't think of right now. 0-100 for matches.

Breakdowns: 2 Matches (12:12) about XX.X% of showtime (55:00);
Average Match Rating 65
Overall Show Rating: 2
1 Trios, 1 Singles
1 Tecnico over Rudo win, 1Rudo over Tecnico win
1 Title Matches (Mexican National Trios Title Match)
1 instances of interference (Terrible?, 1)
Title Changes: Mexican National Trios Titles are vacant
Show Assessment: Not so good

Closing Notes:

1. They had to have booked the (not) title match 15 minutes before it happened. It was so random.
2. Pierroth (or Cien) wasn't extraodinary sloppy or anything in their match, it was just at half speed.
3. Considering this show had a hair/hair match and a title match, it's awful forgettable.
4. Hope next week is better.
