Wasn’t that cool? Ryan Dempster’s big return!

1.0. We’ve been here before. It’d be nice to actually take that next step, and these are the matchups to do it. (Though I’m sure the Giants are thinking similarly.)
All of 2 AL games on the schedule today. I am not bothering with this tommorow, so the matchups listed are for then and not today.

M: So, are you going to be okay? We decided to form a support group for you.
Me: Huh?
M: We know you’re going to have a tough time losing Brendan Harris.
Sniff. I guess Nomar will be okay.
Sosa will be fine. Given they’re playing in Coors, you’d have to tie Sammy to something with an extra strong knot to keep him from playing. Sammy’s .362/.434/.782 in Coors in 174 at bats.
Below the radar: Joe Borowski’s return has quietly been pushed from “mid August” to September. There’s a bit of a roster construction reason for this; when he and Hollandsworth return, they have 26 guys for 25 roster spots, which would be helped by waiting till September. (We were betting on “Kent Mercker suddenly develops slight elbow pain.”) But given the uncertain nature of Joe’s injury, I wonder if there’s more going on here.
I’m thinking this is the Phillies Last Stand. They’ve got to gain ground on SDP (or ATL, who did pass the Padres) in this series or it’s probably not going to happen for them.
Astros made the right move sticking in this and not unloading. You can make a run from 5 games out.
The White Sox aren’t toast yet, but I’d go grab some butter.
