So did Stephen Colbert do an interview with Lou Dobbs tonight, then retape all of his questions in Spanish, and edit the two different interview segments together? That was so disorienting, they just needed a clock behind them that’d jump back and forth in time to complete the effect.

The last time I saw editing that weird was…well, the night before, when it seemed like a 30 minute interview on the Daily Show was clipped into a 5 minute montage of John Stewart absolutely killing the guest. (Actually, the guest was killing himself, but the host was more than willing to help.)

I guess no writers mean a lot more work for editors.

  1. They should just air the interview on multiple nights. I wanted to hear what the crazy guy on TDS had to say.

  2. Yeah Jonny Stew inserted a disclaimer before the interview even started saying it was 18 minutes cut down to 5 and would look like shit.

    The Reporto Gigante with Lou Dobbs was pretty remarkable but I thought the rule on writing was no teleprompters, and there’s no way he said all that Spanish without visual aid even if it was on a retape.
