Cardinals 70-77, -1
Cubs 77-72, +6

POTG: LF Alfonso Soriano (2R HR), 1B Derrek Lee (2H, 2B)
Runner Up: RP Kevin Hart (2 IP, 0 R, BB, 2 K)

This was the first dumb team game I’d seen the Cubs play in a while. I don’t know if it’s just that late in the season or because it was the second half of a doubleheader, but people’s heads were not in the game and it cost them a game they could’ve won on a day the Brewers did win.

Marshall wasn’t sharp at all. I know he’s been doing side sessions, but it sure didn’t seem like enough. I think the bullpen was pretty great – Hart was the only one who pitched of any real length, but everyone was effective except for Wuertz. Considering how long Ohman and Hart had between stints, at least they were looking good. And if Wood is okay on Sunday after being able to pitch effectively in both ends of a double header, he belongs on the potential playoff roster.

No walks was a problem for the hitters here. I don’t know why, but I keep thinking this was the game with multiple people being thrown out at the plate. (Edit: it was! it just didn’t seem that way checking baseball-reference’s box score. Neither Lee or Theriot should’ve been sent.)

Hopefully they tie Theriot to the dugout bench today.

I wish it was more than a 1 game lead, but it’s better than a no game lead.
