Cubs 77-71, +2
Cardinals 69-77, -7
POTG: LF Soriano (2R HR, 2 H)
Runner Up: SP Ted Lilly (6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K)
I thought this one was going to get away from the Cubs. Lilly was in all sorts of trouble the first few innings, taking to till the third to settle down at all, and the Cubs were doing very little at the plate. One big late swing Soriano, and it all turned around. POWER = WINS (though they could’ve done a bit more.)
Win or no win, this was a nice rebound appearance for Kerry after getting smoked two times again. He had an inning in Houston that I forgot about when watching this, but this was in a much closer game anyway. Dempster looked great, and maybe the fans won’t want to replace him for another day.
At this point, I had hopes of the Cubs stretching the lead out to three by the end of the day, driving a stake in both chasing teams.
Waiting four hours between games was boring for me, and all I had to do was watch them. I can’t imagine what it’s like to play in the games.
