Cubs return to 30 under, 62-92
Reds struggle to 500, 75-78
POTG: CF Juan Pierre (2 H, SB, R)
Runner Up: 1B Hank White (HR), SP Rich Hill (5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 BB, but 10 K and a CG)
The Cubs stay away from history by getting a 2nd CG. That’s the weakest CG in history, though. I doubt very much he was coming out for the sixth inning.
This was not a great start by Rich Hill, despite striking out 2/3rds of the guys he faces, but it was good enough start that I’m not worried about reality catching up to him quite yet. He just wasn’t getting away with anything, and the Reds did a good job of making him work for everything he he got.
Nothing much going on with the hitting, though it’s pretty clear every time Theriot gets caught stealing, it’ll hurt a bunch. Ryan gets special mention for walking twice and sacrificing the other time, managing no official at bats in a complete game.
Brenly was completely right in pointing out all these Blanco appearances at 1B are kinda pointless, and we ought to be seeing more of Scott Moore instead, but I expect nothing less than Dusty.
The Jiggets/Dusty interview they aired pre-game was quite the love affair, and reminds me why I don’t bother watching pre-game. Why did they bring along the pre-game crew for this road trip, anyway? Non refundable tickets?
