Cubs have worst two game winning streak ever, 58-87
Dodgers feel dumb, 76-68
POTG: LF Matt Murton (2B, 3 H, 2 RBI, BB, R)
Runner Up: RP David Aardsma (2 IP, 2 BB, K), RP Jae Kuk Ryu (1.1 IP, H, BB, 2 K, 3 IHR stranded), 3B A Ram (H, 2 RBI, BB), RP Juan Mateo (exciting base running!)
Well, that was something.
The Cubs’ 9-8, extra-inning win over the Dodgers will never be replayed on ESPN Classic, but it might show up on the Cartoon Network.
I’m not really sure what to say about this one, so I think I’ll just say bullet points
– this was the most bizarre game ever to follow by cell phone. I did catch it form the bottom of the 8th to finish on radio and TV.
– Sean Marshall has completely regressed to the guy he was before this season started. He’s either hurt or been completely figured out. It’s very much not good.
– JKR is actually decent when they give him consistent innings. Imagine that.
– Freddie Bynum can not possibly be that bad, but he’s bad enough to take him out of serious consideration for the 2B spot. (Cedeno breaths a sigh of relief and starts planning The Riot’s doom.)
– Dempster’s now getting Blown Saves he doesn’t even deserve. That’s quite rough.
– I’d be happy with Aardsma closing next year, though I don’t think that’ll happen. He’s looking like LaTroy before LaTroy lost it (let’s not let that happen here.)
– Juan Mateo has guaranteed that he’ll never be allowed to pinch run again in this or any other lifetime. What a jaunt around the bases, and a non-slide at home that’d make Jeremy Giambi proud.
– I don’t think anything which happened is especially meaningful, except it’s far better to have this sort of game and win than this sort of game and lose.
– you know it’s September when someone’s listed as the “g” pinch hitter.
– This 2 win streak means they only need to go 5-12 the rest of the way to miss 100. They should manage that easily.
