Another quick post, because not only is the game starting in an hour, I’ve got leave to go to a game in an hour. It’s been a lazy weekend all around, including on the field.
Did they leave Angel in while hurting in hopes of him getting his first ML win? You’d hope not, but they said post game they didn’t think it was serious (which is exactly what they thought about Barrett’s injury) and they really wanted to get him one more out, so… I’ll be glad when this is over.
Dusty is quite overusing some people in the bullpen. It’s going to happen when you get 4 inning starts, but we could really use a manager who’s less concerned about winning 65 games (as opposed to 62) and more concerned about not leaving his bullpen arms in shreds. Let Les Walrond take the bullets (and longer stints) when the game’s out of hand.
Looks like they’ve activated Carlos Marmol (walks, here we come!) and called up Scott Moore. I do love how the press release fails to indicate exactly which position Mr. Moore plays. (3B/SSS, best I can find – probably some first too, to explain why they called him up.) Moore is the third player in the Farnsworth/Novoa deal – did we win that one? I’m not sure. Moore’s listed as a AAA callup, but he was only there for a game, and is really another AA player called up for an emergency.
In figuring this out, I just noticed that Iowa’s made a late run and is now 1 game out of the playoffs on the last day of the season. I’m sure there are a couple callups just waiting for the season to end, and it’d be fitting for the Chicago Cubs if the Iowa Cubs season went on a couple more weeks. (Hey, maybe Prior can still get a rehab start!) I just don’t know how that’s actually possible with half the team already in Chicago.
