I don’t really have much to say about this one. You could see Marshall starting to lose it after Bynum’s error in the 5th, and he just got jumped on in the 6th. Offense did nothing, which happens quite a bit, but at least they made Cain throw enough pitches to get in the bullpen, and that nearly worked.

Theriot is SO a rookie. That made me sad.

I kinda would like not to see Eyre or Howry or Dempster (or any pitcherthe team has on a multi-year, multimillion contracts) in back to back games at this point. There’s no sense in overusing them, especially in losses. The Iows Cubs ought to be filling those innings.

Barrett got put on the DL this morning for that low blow ball – he might be the last person in the ML to be put on the DL this season, just because it’s normally pointless to do it when you’ve got all the roster space you need do to callups. I think it was done here because Buck Coats was just sent down before September 1st, and you can’t call a guy back up for 10 days without putting someone on the DL.

Still, it’s a weird call up, because they need either a 1B or a C, and Coats is neither. Barrett’s out, Lee’s supposed to get a scheduled day off, and Mabry’s got a hurt back (wonder if that held up a trade.) Some of the notes columns indicated they were talking about putting Hank White at first and Soto at catcher, which seems impossible because Soto would actually get to catch. That’d also be a horrendous lineup. Angel’s going to need good luck to get his first win.
