What was bugging me about the game yesteday – you know, besides another soul crushing defeat – was the obession Brenly and Kasper had about putting Lawton in either center or right.
Games played by position
Year | LF | CF | RF |
2001 | 0 | 0 | 142 |
2002 | 23 | 0 | 85 |
2003 | 62 | 0 | 13 |
2004 | 124 | 0 | 19 |
2005 | 0 | 0 | 98 |
He’s played left. He hasn’t played center since 2000.
He can play left. We need left. I love Matt Murton, but if he’s not going to get to start every day, Lawton can fill the hole there. Left in Wrigley isn’t an especially hard place to field; the weird bounces seem to find right field, and you just need to worry about the door.
Now that we’ve got that settled, let’s work on the lineup. This is what I would do!
1) L LF Lawton
2) L 2B Walker
3) R 1B D LEE
4) R 3B A RAM
5) L RF Burnitz
6) R CA Barrett
7) R CF Hairston
8) S SS Neifi
And this is what Dusty will do
1) L LF Lawton
2) R CF Hairston
3) R 1B D Lee
4) L RF Burnitz
5) R 3B A RAM
6) L 2B Walker
7) R CA Barrett
8) S SS Neifi
This makes a lot of sense, because it made Felipe Alou go insane that one game, and we’ll play them again, uh, never. Maybe I should be swapping Hairston and Lawton so we could have perfection? Either way, we’ll have to tear this up on Friday, won’t we? Hmmm.
1) L LF Lawton
2) R SS Nomar
3) R 1B D Lee
4) L RF Burnitz
5) R 3B A RAM
6) L 2B Walker
7) R CF Hairston
8) R CA Barrett/Blanco
That’s kinda like a theoritical actual major league lineup! Wow. I wonder what will go wrong.
(Actually I know it’ll be “Nomar still can’t hit, Dusty will play Neifi a bunch, Lawton will run us out of an inning once a week and Derek’s slumping and everyone’s scared to mention it.”)
I think I’d bat Nomar 7th when he comes back…just to let him get back into the groove.
Yea, I could see that. It is asking a lot of Nomar to be a 2 hitter when he comes back – it’s a lot for him to be coming back.
Seventh, or maybe even sixth with Walker up top, until he’s going good (if he gets going good) seems fair.
