It’s like everyone but the Cubs stopped running. Which is cool with me. Actually, the Phillies have had the fun of sweeping the Padres but only making up 1 game on both races.

Wacky Coincidence Of The Day
Current NL Playoff Teams Over The Last 10 Games
ATL 8-2
STL 8-2
CHC 8-2
LAD 7-3

The only other team over .500 are the Expos. Which is why you’re seeing some teams pull away.

Actually, for all the talk about so many teams being in it, there sure are a lot of dead races already. Only the AL West (where Texas took back the lead last night) and NL East (barely) are within 5 games.

Only 12 teams are within 5 games of any playoff spot, which really quite on the low end.

The hot rumor in Chicago has Kenny Williams next big move being Mike Sirotka for David Wells. Keep it under your hat.

Carl Crawford has 17 triples, which would’ve won him the triples crown all but 2 of the last 15 years, and he’s still got a few more games to play.

Crawford’s on a pace for 25.5 triples (that half is going to be tricky), and no one has gotten that many triples since 1925. Triples are kinda fluky, so I think the idea of pace holds up even worse here than other places. It’s at least been a bit random for Crawford.

Crawford’s got a 12/5 home/road split on triples over about the same number of at bats, so you’ve got to figure Tropicana has something to do with it.

TBD Home Triple % 1.058
OPP Home Triple % 0.754
TBD Road Triple % 0.853
OPP Road Triple % 0.474

TBD get 124% more triples at Tampa Bay
OPP get 159% more triples at Tampa Bay

There’s one close comparable park in the AL

DET Home Triple % 1.304
OPP Home Triple % 0.618
DET Road Triple % 0.732
OPP Road Triple % 0.562

DET get 178% more triples at Detroit
OPP get 110% more triples at Detroit

Anyway, the Devil Rays game notes have some more stuff about Crawford, if you’re interested. I’d take the “he’s done more by 23 than most people!” stuff while remembering he kinda had to, because they had no one else.
