don’t want no scrubs

TLC to hold FOX reality show contest to replace Lisa Lopez (Boston.com)

I can kinda see it because what else are T & C going to do but this seems like such a bad idea. Replacing a dead person is always iffy, replacing a dead person with someone who’s got no more cred than winning a reality show seems horrible. But they’re gonna get enough press out of it to sell some albums for the first CD, I’d guess.

Amazingly, this competition with another planned show that’s going to do the same for INXS.

  1. Even if they (the surviving members) end up getting someone they really like who they believe has legit talent and can carry the weight in terms of singing/performing, doesn’t it just figure to be show after show of getting beat over the head about the death of Lopes? See if it would be possible to count the number of times the phrase “no one can replace…” with less than 6 figures. The idea itself doesn’t bug me so much as using it as the basis for a TV show. If it were done privately and then covered as part of a Behind the Music show, so what? Watching it every week, I think only the group’s hardcore fans would care. How they rope in the rest of a primetime audience escapes me.
