A list! My favorite kind of entry because it requires little effort. Although I’ll probably forget a couple. I could go look at the stack of disks but that’s all the way downstairs and eh.

– Midnight Racer (one) – This was fine in the “look what this new system can do” sense, although I never played it much.
– 3? Madden games. 2003 and 2004 I know for sure.
– NBA Live 2004 which I played like twice. The NBA died on me, I think. Or the Franchise mode wasn’t very enjoyable.
– FIFA 2002. We were dying to get this game and anticipated it’s release date and then it was available no where in North America for about or month, or at least it felt that way.
– NASCAR Thunder 2003. This was surprisingly playable when I rented it one time and I got hooked. Mike got 2004 and they made the cars quite a bit more loose on turns, and I have no clue if it’s more realistic that way or what, but it’s not nearly as fun. Which sucks because they really fleshed on the career mode from the looks of it.
– MVP Baseball 2004. I’ve talked about this. I’m back to being unable to hit, especially against humans. The way me and Mike are now playing is that we each take a team near each other rank wise, the other guy chooses who you use as your starting pitcher (the worst guy, of course), and you can’t use another starting pitcher unless the game goes to extra innings. Makes it a bit more realistic without the frustration of facing ace pitchers game after game.
– Tiger Woods PGA Golf 2004. I think I’ve mentioned this too. I was like 130% complete before I let Mike borrow the game, and now there’s no chance I’ll ever see it again. The upside is I’m borrowing
– NCAA College Football 2004 which is fine and all and has some parts better than Madden, but I have a tough time getting in to because my school doesn’t have a football team and while there are teams I hate, there’s no team I’m a big fan of. It is kinda fun making you non-football playing school into a National Powerhouse.
– Final Fantasy X. I was thinking those games were good when I rented them a billion times for the NES and I’m sure the PS games were good even if I never played them or got a PS, so maybe I should try them again. And this was good and stuff but I seriously wouldn’t have minded a couple of people on my own side dying off by the end. And then they DID. Sorta. Auron is/was my personal role model. I traded this to Mike for – hey, wait, he didn’t give me anything for this? I think we brought it up today and I promised revenge for the twelfth time. I must work on the revenging.
– Kingdom Hearts. I did my “these are so obviously aimed a different gender and a different age group that it made me feel old and silly for playing” rant at some point already. So let’s not do it anymore.
– Final Fantasy IX. Not a PS2 game! It was either this or FFX-1 and all the things I was reading were “If you liked FFX, you’ll loooove this” and since I didn’t and PS games are cheaper, I went backwards. Which is what I wanted to do in the actual game the last time I was on it – I passed a point of no return where I couldn’t do everything because I only found out about things (aka: read a GameFAQs FAQ) too late, so I was conflicted as to restart or to finish up. I ended up doing…nothing, and it’s been sitting there on my PS Memory Card for 4 months. Great move. I think I was digging it better than FFX up to the point.

That’s it. I think. I play Madden and NCAA online, but all but one of the games have been against Jake – that was the reason why I did the Golf for NCAA switch if I remember right. Playing Human people (when there’s no visible sign except from them trying to break game rules) isn’t really any better than playing Computer people when the Computer isn’t being an easy to outhink AI, and even then it’s a toss up. I don’t know what’s the next game I’m gonna get (assuming I don’t get a new game before Madden, which is always possible); looking for something good multiplayer, I guess.

I’m like 3 or 4 games away from completely filling out my EA Bio, which annoys my friends greatly. They don’t see that having no point to filling out your EA Bio is the point. What’s wrong with them. I dunno.

That killed the time till this poker tournament started quite nicely.

  1. I kept waiting for IX to get good, and it never did. And it was a bitch about switching disks and cutting you off from items and quests forever.

Who from X did you want to die…that didn’t? If it’s Rikku, steer way clear of X2. I ended up liking everyone who wasn’t blonde.

  2. My feelings of hatred have subsided since it’s been so long since I’ve actually played the game. But I’m pretty sure like any other sane person I wanted Tidus dead. And I wasn’t any big fan of Yuna either. Mostly because any scene involving her ended up involving Tidus and so they were by far the worst. The scene in the forest at the pond where they end finding the first Jecht Sphere had me questioning many things about how I was wasting my time. Young people in love and doing nothing about it, how original in a role playing game.

Wakka was fine though I could see why people might not like him. There wasn’t enough to Lulu to hate or like. Same thing with Kimahri dude too, though he got a lot more script.

Rikku was fine except that her ablities weren’t really as intersting as other people, so I didn’t actually use her as much. There’s always that character who uses up your inventory as their special move, and I’m relunctant to do it because maybe some day I’ll need that extra sword for something and then what I’ll do?

If/when I die, I totally plan on coming back as a warrior monk. Maybe I was! Maybe there’s still time in this one. It totally combines two things I love: shirts with hoods and hitting people with big swords. And maybe other stuff, I dunno.

  3. Not liking the two main characters will pretty much ruin a game, yeah.

I don’t hate Tidus as much as most do…I just rather strongly dislike him. I think I’m more sympathetic because he’s the viewpoint character learning about the world as I do (he’s the only character who can’t believe that the world is at the mercy of a big, bloated fish thing,) and because I see a bit of myself in the way he doesn’t get on with his dad. But on his own merit he sucks, and the scenes with Tidus and Yuna are the absolute worst.

Other than liking Lulu and Kimahri a bit more and Rikku a bit less, I’m with you otherwise. I liked Yuna a lot, for whatever reason. Possibly in hindsight due to sympathy generated by the ending. I love the last 10% of the story, everything after they reach Zanarkand and we finally get told what the Hell’s been going on and what Sin actually is. Even Tidus gets better, because once he sees the truth he has to swallow down and start acting like a man. I can forgive the sluggish pace of the first 90% of the game because now I’ve endured it, and can replay the last part any time I want.

Yuna is a bit harder to get behind in X2 because some of the cheesiness I attributed to Tidus turns out to be her own. The fact that the actual gameplay is a lot more involving saved what could have been the cheesiest game I have ever guiltily enjoyed. The commercials made it look like nothing but concerts, which is not true. Only about a third of the game is concerts.

Paine tries, but she is not Auron. Unfortunately, this, is her world now.
