Hey FLEA, when you write “I’m going to do something interesting real soon!” and then you disappear two weeks, a reader might think you’re just screwing around with them, and that you’re really not going to be any interesting at all!
Any minute now, I’m going to stop checking 1whatever to see if you’ve done whatever it is you were that (and miss out on my opportunity to probably be disappointed but I’m willing to take the chance.)
It’s not that I need you to tell me what’s good and bad (that’s Justin and Scott) because I don’t agree with you at least half the time, but you have this strange ability to make me disagree with you but aren’t so out there that I don’t just roll my eyes and click to something else*. Except, this year, you’re disagreeable and disappearable, a devastating combo.
It’s not working out for me. Although whatever kept you from writing before might be what’s up now and I should probably just shut up, but I can’t let it go when I have to visit sites I don’t like just to find out what’s up. It’s a minefield; one wrong click and you’re questioning the need for human existence.
* – kinda like a couple COMPLETE LUDICROUS COLUMNS at my double vowel home today, though I still may yell about them rather than write about matches this weekend
Completely different: If you are a sabermetric internet fan who knows where the worthwhile sites are (or, like me, stalk those sites), you probably knew what I meant when I was talking about a sub site called Clutch Hits.
Sooooo, if you had Clutch Hits, why would change the name? WHY. That’s sillier than 3 days of downtime.
My personal theory is BaseballPrimer took the theory of “there’s no such thing as clutch hitting” far past it’s logical bounds
T: They’re semi-main eventing Shane Douglas in a show around here. I could not believe someone thinks Shane Douglas is a draw. If you’re going to see a show because Shane Douglas is on it in 2004, you’re probably going to the show no matter who’s on it, or you’ll give anyone your money if you’re just kindly asked.
Most indy promoters are in it to meet ex-famous wrestlers and pseudo-famous wrestlers not to actually make money, I figure. Unless they’re wrestling too, because there’s that.
You’d think it’d be a Big Dick Hardcore Tournament? Or if it has to be a tag team tournament, it’s one where only where only big & tall “stand outside the ring and look impressive” types can participant. Otherwise, what kinda tribute can it really be?
Other Black Indy Wrestlers I Can Think Of: Donovan Morgan of IRON and NOAH! Wildside’s Onyx! Quebec’s Onyx! Lots of Chicago based guys who work or used to work for UAPW that no one outside of Chicago know, so I don’t think they really count. Although I’m told Acid Jaz is really good and he looked fine the five minutes I got to see of him. There was someone else who’s name is slipping my mind and I’m gonna – whoever the Black Nature Boy was, if he still wrestles.
I think this is the “what happened to the Black Starting Pitcher” where people have lots of ideas but no one’s totally sure; I’m not sure if the lack of wrestling in the inner city makes as much sense here.
I need to just watch the OMLL tape. I’m wound up today. I need to do a page of Best of CMLL anyway, so I’ll get on that.
New DVDVR, by the way. I was gonna print it out and read through some during lunch today, but then found out I wasn’t going to have a lunch. I was overjoyed.
A few years ago there was a black guy in USWA named Brickhouse Brown. Thought you’d wanna know.
Donovan Morgan’s white, maaaaan.
Black indy guys~
Wildside- Murder One, Rainman, Shadow Jackson, Nemesis, Caprice Coleman, Sweet Dreams. M-1, Rainman and Coleman are good.
CZW- Ruckus, Sabian, Joker. Joker’s good, the other two are quite awful.
Appropriate story: M-1 and Rainman in Wildside used to be known as “Blackout” and were really over and were a fine team, pushed as monster heels. They disbanded in mid-2002 and now M-1’s a face; now, in early ’04, the aforementioned black guys in CZW formed their own stable called “Blackout”, and One is pretty pissed about it and has called them out on it. Hit up the Wildside forum and there should be a post on the first or second page about it- http://www.nwa-wildside.com/forum (I believe)
Elsewhere, there’s Homicide (ROH, JAPW), Jay Lethal (ROH, JAPW), Slyk Wagner Brown (ROH, JAPW, New England indies and B-Boy (IWA-MS, CZW). All the guys I just mentioned here except for Brown (who is atrocious) are quite good, especially B-Boy.
Jody Fleisch was pretty famous in indy circles (made a name for himself in the UK and MPro, then came over here and worked a few spots for CZW & ROH in ’02), but then he retired.
Yeah, Cubs, its a tag team tournament. But lemme give ya the run down on what I’m facing next Friday night…

and B-Boy’s an obvious filipino.
Black Nature Boy was/is Scoot Andrews who does still wrestle. The few times I’ve seen him he sucked but apparently I just got him on all his off-nights that were taped because most people seem to think he’s at least okay.
I could’ve sworn that there was a black NOAH/Iron guy that I saw wrestle on Jakked way back and I kinda figured out it wasn’t Mike Modest. Perhaps I’m losing my mind on this.
I’m thinking, seeing as they’ve got like 50 guys on that card and US Pro cards seem to exist to see length records, you’d be well off to leave far before Raven/Shane.
Also in USWA and whatever the Memphis show is called now, I’m sure Spellbinder and Derrick King still exist, but I was trying to stick with guys people would want to watch.
Yeah, I might just bounce right after Homicide vs. Sabu.
And Cubs, you might be thinking of Robert Thompson from APW.
I thought Spellbinder was a white guy? It having been funny that a white guy joined the USWA Nation of Domination. Led by Mabel.
B-Boy’s filipino and ‘Cide is prolly Puerto Rican, so I really have no clue what the fuck I’m talking about. I also left out JULIUS SMOKES~, whom Cubs, Scott and Joe may remember from ROH.
The NOAH/Iron guy was most likely Tony Jones…his most high-profile work was APW King of the Indies ’01. He was also the guy that wrestled Mike Modest in “Beyond the Mat”, I believe.
As far as that USA Pro show goes, I’d say it’s a definite pass, although ‘Cide/Sabu should be at least decent and Red/Daniels should be pretty wild- their ROH match was very good despite Red botching some stuff pretty badly.
Yeah, the show was GOING to have Teddy Hart and Deranged but they had to go to Japan – so Jack Evans, being a Hart groupie/lackey, cancelled, as well. AJ Styles and CM Punk were also supposed to be on the show, but Corino decided to run a World-1 show the same day. And Sonjay Dutt was also supposed to be on the show, but Japan awaits, too.
I think the reason that Raven is always at the top of the card for these USA Pro gigs is because Frank Goodman, who books the shows, is also his agent. Big shocker.
Anyways, I’m bumping KRS ONE before buying a cheap DVD player today. WOOP WOOP THAT’S THE SOUND OF THE POLICE
